  1. The Badgers have no realistic shot at a #1 seed. They are 2-3 against ranked teams. Not only that, but the two teams they did beat aren't even ranked anymore. They have zero good wins. Maybe you can think up some crazy idea to make them a #1 or #2 seed, but that team isn't good enough to do it.
  2. Ignoring the WAR projections the stats seem pretty accurate to me. Some will likely do better than those numbers, but overall second worst offensive team in average? Yah I believe it. I'm not as bullish on that great defensive prediction though and I think Villar will be great again.
  3. The problem is you don't really need to be in position to shoot the 3. Just have the ability to throw the basketball in the air. I just don't really think they ever got in a position to go for a foul. Once it got down to 5 seconds(once again when I believe fouling is a safe idea) they were kind of in a pickle. #24 would have had a chance, but judging by the fact he put his hands up he probably thought the Nebraska player was going to put up the shot. Unfortunately for him he didn't shoot stepped away from the Wisconsin defenders and dished it to the big man to have an open 3. I am guessing no one on Wisconsin was going to take the big man seriously on the 3 point arc...which would probably work any other time. Though I really doubt Wisconsin had in place a plan to foul at any point just speaking in hypotheticals if they were to have.. It just isn't common no matter how much it is thrown out there. I guess the biggest worry is fouling and then turning it over when you try to throw it in. That or the concern of giving the other team 3 free throws when they jump and put up a pathetic shot to draw the foul. Most coaches probably stick to the worst case scenario being a tie game and OT. Getting cute with the fouling could make the worst case scenario be losing. If they hit it tip your cap and get ready for 5 more minutes.
  4. The problem is the ball gets inbounded with a lot of time left. You aren't going to fouls with 10 seconds on the clock. By the time it got down to 5 seconds they had the ball at the 3 point line where fouling is risky business.
  5. Sounds like a thread to start when he actually starts sucking as a starter. He was still a mid rotation guy last year and is only 28(cheap too). The Rays aren't going to move him anywhere unless he falls off the cliff.

  7. [quote name="It's a great listen, except for the part in the intro where they literally referred to Haudricourt as "Mr. Baseball" in Milwaukee. What.....noooooo.
  8. That is true and all, but there is also dumpster fire value in a guy who strikes out 200+ times, has months where he hits <.200, and only gets 120 hits a year despite having a lot of ABs. Sure he goes through little bursts where he hits a streak of dingers, but when he isn't he is the worst thing to have on a team.
  9. The idea behind the extra inning rule makes a lot of sense(still don't want it myself) when you look at it. Have you ever seen how many people bail out on a game when it goes to extras...either on TV or at the ballpark? No good my friend. It is late and people don't want to sit around wondering when a game might end. May take 10 minutes or 3 hours to complete it. Adding such a rule would probably end most games after a single inning. Which would hopefully keep fans more interested as a player is already starting out on 2nd base. I think it would shorten extra inning games by a good margin and probably keep more people tuned in till the last pitch. That being said...no...I still wouldn't support it.
  10. You probably only need to get to the 12th inning to get painful length wise. That right there could be pushing an hour extra of time. I really don't like the idea as I like keeping baseball pretty old school for the most part. Though if I had an elite closer I would be pretty excited as my team would likely be winning a lot of these extra inning games under such a rule.
  11. What made it so bad was they called some of the worst plays one could possibly draw up and executed them horribly. 3:56 to play (2nd-11) This is field goal range and not that long of a field goal. It would have been 40 yards or a tad shorter. Everyone says the Patriots were selling out for the run and I really don't buy it. They had 5 guys on the line and one linebacker playing close. They could have easily come up with a play to gain positive yards there. Instead they call a long pass play that risks your QB dropping back too far and getting sacked. Exactly what happened...whoops. It is brutal that they were thinking touchdown when it did little to help them as an 11 point lead would make their odds to win almost 100%. Getting a touchdown wouldn't have helped those odds much. They just needed to focus on the field goal and not put themselves in a prime position for disaster. They had a great kicker who was 16/17 beyound 30 yards all year long. They were in prime position for a 30-40 yard field goal and somehow found the only way to blow it.
  12. They should have ran conservative plays to give them the best shot at a field goal. There was virtually no reason to be going for a TD. There should have been a 0% chance of getting sacked for 12 yards and should not have put themselves in a position to get a 10 yard penalty. It was a complete and utter fail by the Falcons coaching staff and Matt Ryan for getting sacked for that big of a loss. Even after that they should have run the ball as they were still in field goal range. That was a bigger fail than the Seahawks throwing the ball a couple years back. At least the Seahawks can say they were trying to catch the Patriots by surprise. There is absolutely no excuse or reasoning for the play selection and execution for the Falcons last night.
  13. I'd disagree it is too early to consider extensions for any player. I will take the risk on a player, but wouldn't start handing out early extensions to lots of players. Yiu have to believe in the players etc, but gambling a few million a year where you could gain $30mil or even more? If the player continues his current projection(or better)? Once again I probably wouldn't hand them out like candy where I'd have $10mil yearly in riskier extensions, but taking a chance on one or two isn't crazy.
  14. There are a lot of candidates. Hader is an option as is Villar as is Broxton. If one of those guys wanted to sign away 6+ years for $15mil you wouldn't think about it? Of course it helps if they have a decent year as an MLB player, but I would pay his projected Arby's salary if he gives me a year or two of FA years in exchange. It's a win win for both sides in a way. Just more risk for the player.
  15. I hope you are just referring to paying him more. Not that he was underpaid back in the day so we knew we would overpay him in the later years. Because that would explain why this franchise can't win a World Series. What you are saying is something you think of when signing someone to a big FA contract and understand you have to pay for the down years to get those good years. Not when you sign someone half a decade early and already have the prime years bought out. That being said I don't think his contract will be so crippling financially like that. I'm sure he will be worth close to what he is getting paid at least 3/4 of the years remaining. It would probably be better not paying him, but it's not like we are losing anything by having him here...for now.
  16. Jimmy Nelson isn't going anywhere. It just makes zero sense from the Brewers perspective. He will start the year in the rotation and go from there.
  17. This thread has me thinking of two things: 1. Everyone is always saying we need to pick so high in the draft, but just about every year within 5 picks after ours an elite player(or prospect right now) was picked. Not just positional players as there were multiple pitchers too. Many times in the comp round and the second round too. 2. This team has flat out just sucked at drafting for years.
  18. My biggest worry: Paying Braun $20mil to be a 3.5 WAR OFer(or lower) when someone in the wings could play for league minimum and still put up close to the same output. That's a huge waste of a lot of money. All is fine if he is producing >4WAR because that is a special player and not something easily matched. I doubt we have three 4+ WAR OFers coming in the next 4 years. However if he dips closer to 3 that's not really anything super special and easily replaced internally and then that money can be spent on a real need. He may not be quite as good as Braun, but said player would likely be more reliable on defense and replacement+$20mil spent elsewhere>Braun at that point.
  19. Yah it would take the perfect storm to get a trade done on many levels. As long as he stay healthy and produces I don't really care too much. The logjam is a valid concern as is health issues that could lead to missed time or fall in production. It would be nice if he could play some average 1B, but probably an unlikely wish. Unfortunate to get stuck with a $20mil player which the Brewers probably would prefer not to have in the OF in a few years. Not being able to trade him doesn't really help win a World Series...probably harms them to an unknown extent. I guess you get the aesthetic value of having maybe the best Brewers ever for 4 more years....but I guess I'm not all about that.
  20. I was thinking the same, but I didn't really seem to care because the off season has hit a new high of boredom.
  21. To say you have them and there are some perks for having them. Though not as good as other teams feature.
  22. Steroids are considered worse in baseball in large part because MLB treats them that way and partially the media destroying players over it. Just like most things in society today.
  23. Interesting idea, but very risky taking a HS player with an unprotected pick (comp picks for unsigned players are not protected). The Dodgers had to go $400K over slot to sign Seager and that was with a protected pick; any halfway decent agent is going to leverage that unprotected pick and hold the team hostage. If Seager walks away from the table, the Brewers get nothing from either pick. Unlikely but very possible. Not sure that Glasnow would be eligible because he was a significant oversign - he signed for almost 4x the slot value. I mean we are playing this game in retrospect so I will give Seager the entire bonus pool and take an penalty I must incur to do it.
  24. How do you know any of that is true? Just curious. Like how do you know they didn't know? How do you know it isn't significant? How do you know it was over the counter stuff? How do you know the Biogenesis players were taking small amounts? We the fans barely get any details related to any PED bust. Usually it is, "Such and such tests positive for PEDs. Player says they have no idea how it got there, but they accept punishment with apology." End of story. There is a line by the way. You get this list of drugs that are all banned. You have a billion dollar company that can research anything you might want to take and likely pay for it. Heck anyone past the 5th grade probably knows how to read an ingredient list. There is literally no excuse.
  25. Please key in on the fact I was referring to better(more risky health wise) PEDs that the current testing system can't track down. They exist it is no secret. We are talking about the same guy who said he took steroids in the first place to live up to his contract etc. Is it really hard to believe that he wanted to sweep the PED thing under the carpet by going out there without missing a beat? The guy had a huge ego problem throughout that entire ordeal. I do think he was that dumb. That failed test was because of himself and only himself. If I had to guess he probably started taking the drugs soon after the All Star game and what was probably a drug test there. It probably started out as experimental and after it gave him incredible results he probably kept wanting more more more. Moral of the story his PED use makes teams not want him or want to pay way less for him. And for the record I am not a Braun hater. I just don't try to sugar coat his PED debacle.
