  1. I agree that life-threatening injuries tend to be freak accidents, but (1) they do happen; and (2) more minor injuries are much more prevalent. Here is a recent article on the issue: http://www.bloomberg.com/news/articles/2014-09-09/baseball-caught-looking-as-fouls-injure-1750-fans-a-year (including an 8-year-old who was hospitalized by a Carlos Gomez foul ball last season) Good article, thanks for posting it. Gave me the incidents I was looking to be enlightened with. But there was one HUGE glaring issue I saw. Almost every single incident was smaller kids being at the receiving end. If you don't think your child can react fast enough to a foul ball don't get them that close. Seems like adults are doing just fine avoiding serious injury. Now I'm not saying ban kids from the infield...but let's not ruin some of the experience for others because of a few incidents. Sadly we live in a society where one bad accident and we must find a way to bubble wrap everyone to make sure it can never happen again.
  2. Ruins the experience? Probably over the top. The thing that bugged me the most was the scoreboard quality really being killed by the net. It also just makes me feel like there is something between me in the players...which hey, there is! But let's be real here...can anyone mention another major injury from a fan being hit by an object flying off the field? Other than broken bones or a bruise? I have watched many bats also fly into the stands and never see a single person need medical attention. It's a freak accident.
  3. What a horrible and ugly looking idea. It would ruin the experience for me. I sat behind the net once....HATED it and never will again. There is no reason to. When you go to the game and sit that close you run the risk of the one in a trillion chance a bat will tomahawk into the stands and give you life threatening injuries. I have never seen another instance or heard of one where a person got serious injuries due to something flying into the stands. I have heard of some broken wrists/hands...but that is pretty minor. I would be in more support of changing the bats vs. this ridiculous idea that has been thrown around.
  4. Moving Segura to third would be a complete waste of talent. I don't think he would be the best defensively at 3B, he has little power, and is slightly above average with the bat. Production is down at 3B in recent years, but I think they would be better suited to shift him to 2B or trade him. That is where they will maximize his value when Arcia arrives.
  5. I am a bit tired of hearing this. It has been made pretty clear through rumors and the things that Doug Melvin has said that this team is selling at the deadline. Not only that but rebuild has been thrown out there a lot. How extreme is anyone's guess, but the joke about stringing together wins and thinking they have a chance is a bit annoying at this point. The only thing ten wins in a row will do is make management think they might get more than a bag of balls for the players they trade.
  6. Matz isn't coming over from a Segura trade...so no worries there. It also take two to make a trade happen. Very possible the Mets are like any other team and just observing for now. Melvin can't just go running to the Mets and sound desperate. That will just hurt him in negotiations.
  7. Mets are keeping tabs on Aramis Ramirez and Jean Segura. As noted by some in the business Ramirez could be had by just giving Brewers some salary relief.
  8. I can't stand watching Gomez anymore. 4 hits and 3RBI in one game. Way too good to be on the Brewers.
  9. Broxton's 4.10 FIP hints he might have some bad luck, but honestly if he isn't doing better by the end of the month might as well just release him. Give a young guy some experience. I also have to wonder why Broxton comes in for the 8th and we never have someone warming up. Why not have someone warming up a little bit?
  10. I think Ramirez can still have some nice stretches. I'd rather watch Ramirez than Hector Gomez to be honest. A little name recognition is nice to have on a garbage team. Most importantly it isn't like we have anyone to try out at the hot corner. Ramirez will be starting all year if he wants and that is perfectly fine with me.
  11. I think it is frustrating only if you want to be frustrated. A good manager will just write down the out on his scorecard and move on. A lot of his stellar plays come with his aggressiveness. You are going to run into some outs, but in my opinion it is well worth it. No one comes out when he makes a stellar aggresive play...only when he makes a bad one.
  12. Ball hit into RF slightly towards center and Gomez, who was on 1st, rounded 2nd too far. Throw going to 3B was cut off and cut off man perfectly positioned to tag him before he could scamper back to 2nd. All the hate seems be a bit of an overreaction. I never saw an angle that showed what the human windmill was doing. Entirely possible Sedar waved him over but tried to send him back. Don't know for sure though.
  13. Why do people insist on benching Gomez...sounds like something the Twins probably did with him and we know how he did there. There is no point to benching him and no point to making him less aggressive. This is Gomez, you aren't going to change it with a day off.
  14. Email gameused@brewers.com...the last list I got had a Bierbrauer used bat boy jersey. Can't say if they still have it, but possible. Also have you put an ad on Craigslist? That might be worth trying.
  15. His fastball has always been electric. His problem is command issues and who knows if he can ever figure it out to reach his max potential. He is a solid reliever right now, but could be something really nice with some better control/command.
  16. What a garbage showing from the Twins bullpen tonight. Yikes
  17. Push the keyboard away for a second. Every outfielder does that from time to time. I don't think Gomez does it at a crazy rate or anything. Though he usually throws it and in most other cases it is a pump fake then they realize there are 3 outs. Actually you know what every player on the diamond forgets the number of outs a lot! They forget a lot of things. The whole opposing team and umpiring crew forgot how many balls Votto had when he took first(walked on three). Pitchers or first baseman starting to run off the field with only two outs is all too common. A lot of outfielders start to run off after a catch sometimes too on out #2. When you play thousands of innings you might make a mental error here and there with the number of outs.
  18. What a pile of steamy you know what. Looks like we will have that good veteran presence well though the trade deadline.
  19. I'm not going to do a full Top 15 because that is way too much thought for something that will be greatly wrong...moving on... I think: Trenton Clark I want: Walker Buehler Bonus: I want Mantuella with the comp pick and Wisconsin native Kyle Cody with their 2nd round pick.
  20. Neither would be claimed, both would elect free agency, we would pay their salaries, and get nothing in return. A bit early to just dump them and swallow their salary. Between them they are a combined -1.6 WAR so far. I realize they are holding out hope that a sudden surge by either would allow them to move them (hence the post in blue), but really nothing in return is better than a negative return on their salaries. Somebody would pick them up and you can save the major league minimum. Brewers tried that with Wolf in 2012. Maybe should have let him go earlier and looked at the young guys. Well the season is lost and heading towards some type of rebuild. Wouldn't negative value be good value in a way? If they aid in more losses it could mean a better draft pick. The bottom dwellers can get cramped some years and a few more losses can mean #3 instead of #7 in the draft. If we were planning on competing next year and want to get a look at someone for next year I could see it, but I don't think that is the plan.

  22. Is it just me or does it seem like the league is dragging its feet on Smith's appeal? I wish a decision would come tomorrow so the suspension will get over with. Well the Smith suspension would have been quicker if not for the other guy getting caught a day or two later. Now they are waiting on his hearing(which was today) and a decision will come on Friday. I would guess they get the same suspension.
  23. "Trust our scouts" Had me laughing pretty good. All the more reason to go after the more proven minor leaguers.
  24. I don't see Arizona being buyers at the deadline unless they really dominate the next two months. They are 4th in their division and being a borderline contender won't make them go for a big ticket name. One of their younger arms might be a realistic headliner for a deal the way Gomez has been hitting. Much longer and his trade value is going to start trending downwards. Hopefully he can get hot for the Brewers.
