  1. I don't know how Counsell will fair in the long term, but in the short term I see the team being a lot more energized. Counsell will be a little more lively than Roenicke ever was and hopefully the team will follow suit. Counsell just seems like a good leader for this team. Going from such a boring quiet guy in Roenicke to Counsell should be really refreshing for these guys. Also very interesting watching him manage a team he just so recently played for.
  2. Wow K-Rod had the change up working tonight. Good luck hitting that farther than the infield.
  3. I really think this team hated Ron...I think they are energized just on the fact he is gone.
  4. Anyone have an old Craig Counsell jersey? Can the manager be MVP?
  5. Then Lind smokes a ball for a double off one of the best lefties in the history of the game. #Counsell2016
  6. Don't get your hopes up...I don't see it happening this year. Regardless by the start of 2016 it is very likely and won't be here in 2017 for sure.
  7. Going to miss Gomez when we trade him...his energy and just the way he plays is enjoyable. He always wants to play and always goes 110%.
  8. Thanks negative Nancy for saying the same thing twice....Too bad they sound like they are going to rebuild.
  9. Sign some high risk high reward players on 1 year contracts the next few years. Just get a lot of players to flip like the Cubs were doing.
  10. Because he's probably the closest thing to a "face of the franchise" the Brewers have, and he DID take less money to stay in Milwaukee. To trade him could be a huge negative in keeping home-grown talent in the future. Loyalty is a two -way street. Loyalty? Loyalty!? The guy signed a "team friendly" contract while cheating and has screwed the franchise over it. The deal isn't team friendly and he would NOT have gotten that much on the open market. Why you ask? Because this is the last year of the original pact...you think he would snatch 5/$100mil this offseason? Not a chance. Pretty sure no future homegrown talent cares if we decided to trade away a liar/cheater...nor does anyone in their right mind consider Braun "loyal". If the Brewers want to trade Braun it would have to now before he gets his no trade clause next year.
  11. MLB teams can't draft 4 year college players until after their Junior year...at which point they can accept or decline/return. Though if you decide to play your Senior year you have no leverage in the draft and will lose out on any possible bonus.
  12. So it really is starting to sound like Counsell will be manning the rebuild the next few years and Doug Melvin may be the GM doing the work. Which is fine with me if you think of how well Doug Melvin has done in trades. Drafting really needs to improve though.
  13. $112mil payroll? Probably not very realistic.
  14. Have you ever listened to his post game press conferences? He just doesn't seems like a good clubhouse guy. Always mumbling, "Well there is always tomorrow." or "We just need to ride it out." I think the reason 2011 worked so well is for the fact the team came together on their own...that team was just so unique. Now all I see is slumps and no fire.
  15. 3 year deal isn't that surprising to me. I doubt Counsell wanted to come in for less than a season...I think he wants a real shot to manage. Then you might as well tack on the 3rd year because managers almost never go through lame duck seasons. I think they are 100% committed to give Counsell a shot this year and next year...after that evaluate. I know people are mad Roenicke got that extra year despite last years collapse, but that is just how manager contracts work in baseball.
  16. Counsell Could be a guy to spike some new interest in a bad season.
  17. I thought Ramirez was DONE with NO POWER left...? Hmmm crazy.
  18. Castellanos does not have very high upside. He has been an average at best hitter so far and his defense is HORRIBLE...like he shouldn't even be playing 3B bad.
  19. Well if he turns it around by July or the end of the season I see it like this. One elite prospect (Top35) One other Top 100 prospect Another good prospect and lastly a low minor arm
  20. You guys are such experts on what the Brewers plan on doing....it is actually really impressive. How do you know Melvin will flip all the prospects for MLB ready replacements? Has he ever done that before?...No. He flipped a lot of drafted prospects when a team was really good, but never once did he trade guys like Fielder or Braun to reload a roster for next year. Attanasio/Melvin have never been in a situation like this and to just pretend you know everything they will do is halarious. There is no reason to be shopping any of our young highly valuable players right now that have team control. We can wait till July when more suitors are lined up or even the off-season when just about every team might have some interest. Shopping them now would be a dumb idea...if someone comes and blows the Brewers away that is different. Veteran rentals are always the first guys on the block...calm down and step away from the keyboard.
