  1. I mean if we're gonna play matchups as our reason for benching nearly everyone responsible for a 9 run outburst the night before, you can't leave the dead bats in when they go to a lefty. With the new rules they can't even pull him, he has to face three batters. That was a massive asleep at the wheel inning.
  2. The same question for Gamel, but he grounded out weakly before I could type it
  3. Counsell should certainly never be sitting Hiura for a a career .750 OPS MiLB player who has never been super young for his level. Especially when that player hits from the same side of the plate. I'll give the guy the benefit of the doubt that maybe he just wants to see Mathias in the lineup given how many dead bats are in it tonight.
  4. I think we're witnessing the slow death of the pull hitter. Across MLB the formula for getting these hitters out has been perfected. Even the good ones can barely hit .225. I think an adjustment will come, but it will have to work its way up from the high school/college levels. In the meantime, offense in MLB has gotten so anemic that the 2002 Brewers would now have an above-average batting team in terms of BA and OBP if they played in 2020. That's absurd! If you look back at a lot of the Brewer teams in the late 90's and early 2000's their lineups were not only far superior to today's Brewers but overall would rank well in many offensive categories. Many of them did it without striking out much more than they walked too. Really awful pitching though and that's always more important than hitting. A great example of that would be your last great Brewer offense in 2012 ranking at the top of the league in run scoring not even making the postseason.
  5. Uh, Manny Pina will have about 5 years of service time by the end of this year, he'll be in the last year of arbitration next year.
  6. Even if you do think it will be a money saver season and the Brewers won't be competitive, Phelps would be an excellent trade deadline piece.
  7. It would be a good idea to bunt more and try to steal more bases and try to manufacture runs. The whole idea of station to station and waiting for three run homers isn't a good idea when you have one of the worst slugging teams in baseball. That said, I doubt many on this team are capable of bunting or shortening up their swings and trying to go the other way to beat the shift so I guess it probably wouldn't do much. I just find it kind of hilarious to see trash cans like Justin Smoak continue to pull balls into the shift and then hear announcers say things like bunting isn't a good idea. The guy struggles to hit .200, doesn't walk a ton, and doesn't hit many homeruns. Obviously the stubborn approach doesn't work and will likely lead to the end of his major league career soon, why not try to beat the shift? Is it impossible to get better at bunting by practicing it?
  8. The NBA sure seems to be committing suicide. I never thought I'd be thankful for someone like Goodell running a league, but using an iron fist to keep the players in line seems to be the way to go.
  9. That's the way the world is now, it's all about optics, trying to be on the right side of issues, making sure not to anger or annoy others, withholding facts if they present an uncomfortable truth. I understand this board's policy about politics and if this post needs to be removed, I do apologize, but it is a massive disappointment to see a Brewer game postponed due to this.
  10. I don't fully blame the Brewers for this since with the Bucks quitting they would be under immense public pressure to do something, but I do find it kind of hilarious that they're just going to have a doubleheader the next day.
  11. I would hardly call Knebal or Jeffress "neglected 9th inning guys". Those guys were closers on good teams. When you have a good team, there tends to be a lot of late leads to protect. In 2017 Knebal pitched 76 innings. In 2018 Jeffress pitched 76.2 in the regular season and 8 in the post season. If this Brewers team was better they'd have many more innings for Hader to pitch.
  12. And then the random day comes where Hader isn't there and Claudio sets them down 1-2-3 for a save.
  13. I think it's just one game back of 8th if I'm looking at it right. Four teams to leapfrog, but still, it's only one game deficit.
  14. I mean, it's four games. If you wanna look back at all four game losing streaks you'll see some bad numbers.
  15. I pictured Ned Yost saying this, not Counsell. But apparently Yost is who we have now Eh, or Roenicke with Kameron Loe getting the 8th no matter what.
  16. I know it's a small amount of games and this lineup definitely isn't this bad, but it's still likely one of the worst Brewers lineups I've seen in my lifetime. You can look back at the bad times of the early 2000's or late '90's too and I'd take just about any of those lineups (granted, the reason those teams lost was starting pitching and I definitely would not want to trade full teams with teams from that era). https://www.baseball-reference.com/teams/MIL/2003.shtml https://www.baseball-reference.com/teams/MIL/2004.shtml https://www.baseball-reference.com/teams/MIL/2001.shtml https://www.baseball-reference.com/teams/MIL/2000.shtml https://www.baseball-reference.com/teams/MIL/1999.shtml https://www.baseball-reference.com/teams/MIL/1998.shtml
  17. Yep. Manage it the best you can and move on with life.
  18. Give me a break.
  19. Ok, that apology video is one of the more hilarious things I've ever seen. Greatest homerun call of 2020!
  20. I wonder which city he was referencing?
