  1. They might not have expectations of a very large move at all...
  2. This from Jeff Passan: "In fact, the last January trade of great consequence was when Toronto dealt Vernon Wells to the Los Angeles Angels" Christian Yelich says "Hi!"... (this sort of thing is perhaps the real reason why comments were disabled on the ESPN site)
  3. Given what's left on the market after Donaldson signs, I'm hoping either for a trade or just seeing what Healy has. I'm not excited about Healy, but I'm even less enamoured with paying any of the remaining free agent third basemen after Donaldson.
  4. If the Brewers trade Hader to get prospects and then trade for Arenado, I'll wonder why they didn't just push for Rendon and keep Hader. If the Brewers trade Hader to get prospects and then trade for Arenado, I would hope that they did push for Rendon and he didn't want to come.
  5. I read this article this morning and laughed at all of the completely unsupported assumptions. It had to be written by a fan of a team in a large market who was tired of hearing fans outside of the large markets clamour for some sort of even playing field. Then I saw who it was written by and chuckled - not only does he follow a large market team, but I can't say that I've ever read an article of his and not thought "They pay this guy to write this nonsense? Really?" (and I should know, I was once - a long time ago - paid to write that nonsense. I suspect that I wasn't particularly good at it, but at least I can say that everything I wrote was supportable by facts).
  6. Perhaps the asking price was Torres and/or Severino? That sort of thing is the only way that I can see the asking price dropping...
  7. This is just some random twitter account with 1k twitter followers. Better off ignoring it until we get confirmation from an actual account with new information. Is it just me, or does this feel like some elevated temperatures again...?
  8. This is true. Given that, it's interesting that we keep hearing about ongoing negotiations - if the two teams weren't even in the same ballpark in terms of the players involved, would talks still be ongoing?
  9. Start with Torres, hope that they don't hang up. Move on to Dominguez +, hope that they don't hang up. Settle on Andujar, Garcia and Gil, and hope that Andujar doesn't kill you in the field.
  10. I hate to bring up Gary Sheffield (when you're clearly blocking) but...
  11. I hate to bring up Gary Sheffield (when you're clearly blocking) but...
  12. That's just mean - we did let them sign Hernan! I just wanted to say "thank you" for this, it gave me a good chuckle that I needed... I've stopped reading 90% of the posts on the site that I used to read, turned off by the whining, sniping etc... this used to be the place to come for informed, civil discussion. It's nice to see someone keep a good sense of humour through all of that.
  13. I doubt it, guys like that tend to be habitual offenders. Let's be fair now. We don't know the full story here. For all that we know, perhaps they spent some time together, she initiated things and he was young, in love and stupid. Of course, even if that's the case, it doesn't excuse what he did - but we don't know that he's a "guy like that". If we hear that it's happened again, then I'm with you...
  14. Freeing up money for an offer to Yelich? I'm not joking there - this would make sense to me. How else does a team with the budget of the Brewers make an offer to a player who - but for an injury at the end of the season - had a chance at back-to-back MVP awards? And it makes sense to make the offer now. Salaries (for the elite players) are going up, not down and the longer you wait, the less his value in a trade if he rejects it and decides that he'd rather wait for free agency (at which point the Brewers chances of resigning him are probably zero).
  15. Setting aside the question of who's better for the moment, I will remind you that it's not as if they DFA'd Davies. Davies helped them get Urias.
  16. This sounds familiar. Shades of last off-season. Too bad that they didn't pick up Morton last year... but what's done is done...
  17. I'm curious about what people here think about possibly bolstering the bullpen with Blake Treinen. I have done any digging into his issues last season but, at least on the surface, he seems like a good bounce-back candidate.
  18. There's a compromise here... they could offer Aguilar a NRI. If he accepts and earns his way onto the team, great. As always, there's a downside - you have to have a plan B in case he doesn't.
  19. I thought that last year, and I'm not falling into that trap again this year... although I do hope to be wrong about that...
  20. LOL... so much for the Cubs hating the Cardinals with a passion. The next time that you hear any Cubs fan saying that, you now have something to tease them with... I look at it this way - It doesn't feel like the pitching staff has been nearly as good as last year's staff was, and I didn't even expect them to be in a position to make the playoffs at the end of August. Then they lost Yelich - a legitimate candidate for back-to-back MVPs - and I thought "oh well - they did a lot better than I expected, given the pitching". But, instead of folding like... well, the Cubs... they caught fire and made it into the playoffs. Whatever happens in the playoffs, this season has been a success in my book. As for who the Cubs decide to trot out there, as Maddon continues his farewell tour, it barely matters to me - the Cubs fans can jealously watch the Brewers in the playoffs again (even if it ends up only being one game) and dream of how much more money they're going to have spend in order to get past the Brewers and become relevant again.
  21. Hi all, Does anyone know a good place to look for authentic-looking Brewer jerseys from the days before names on jerseys (apart from ebay, of course)? Thanks...
  22. Fair enough. I disagree, but I respect your opinion. Consider this though... the lineup won't wear down as the year goes on without Encarnacion. The bullpen - and particularly Hader - might.
  23. Here's a question... I think that we all know that we couldn't afford both, so where would you rather try to spend Mark A's $$$... Encarnacion or Kimbrel? Even setting aside the asset that you'd have to give up to get the former, this team needs the latter a lot more IMHO.
  24. Either this is a move to try to avoid being traded entirely (perhaps he just wants to stay in SF) or he wants to force contenders to negotiate an extension to get him to waive the restriction.
  25. Yes agree, and we’ll see how many of those type of players are made available. There are always some, but who wants them...? I think we now know why they haven't signed Keuchel... (eyeroll)
