  1. I'm sure that I'm not the first one here to say this, but I wouldn't be shocked if the Brewers looked to add a bat and relief pitching rather than a starter. The addition of Moustakas and Schoop last season tells me that they feel that there are holes in the lineup and/or on the bench and, after their strong showing in the playoffs, I suspect that both Woodruff and Burnes will get a shot at the rotation in ST. Chacin Burnes (already stated by Steans/Counsell) Woodruff Nelson (assuming he's ready) Anderson Davies Peralta Guerra (if offered arbitration) And that's not even taking into account: Suter (won't be ready for ST) Miley (FA) Gio (FA) That's not a bad group to choose from - especially for the long term. I wouldn't be surprised to see them make a move for a #1 (or a #2 with potential to get even better), but I can't see them picking up another mid-rotation starter. Of course, pulling arms from the bullpen (looking at Woodruff and Burnes) would necessitate getting replacements there... Of course, I reserve the right to be completely wrong...
  2. Me imagining Yelich as a Cardinal: LMAO at the Cardinals and Braves fans deciding that the reason their teams didn't make a good, strong offer for Yelich was obviously because the Marlins had asked them for far more than the Brewers offered (and they were obviously too insulted to make a counteroffer)... If it hadn't been for those greedy Marlins, we'd have had him instead of the Brewers... Because god forbid anyone should have a smarter GM than theirs...
  3. I was expecting this. To be fair. Snitker was clearly a worthy candidate but the margin was ridiculous. How many of the voters who put Snitker in first place were a part of the (large) majority of the national press who predicted before the season that the Brewers would regress and be .500 or worse? How soon they (conveniently) forget... In the end, while awards are nice, who cares? Counsell, while not perfect, is a really good manager and I (for one) would rather have him as manager than Snitker. What he did this year, with the rotation that he had to work with, due to injuries and the like, was extraordinary and is to be lauded.
  4. While I agree that this isn't happening, there's something slightly amusing to me about re-acquiring yet another player given up in a playoff push several years ago...
  5. I'm probably overreacting here, but I'm done with Schoop. I loved his potential when he was in the minors, and I wasn't at all unhappy when the Brewers picked him up, but I never thought that his pathetic .202/.246/.331 effort after the trade would vastly exceed his playoff performance... I know they parted with assets to get him, and that he as 12th in the MVP voting in 2017, but I just don't see how he's worth picking up. I'm not using him as a scapegoat for the series loss to the Dodgers - there were plenty of underperformers with the bat - but he's just been such a letdown ever since the trade. For me, the only way that you pick up the option is if you feel certain that you can move him in a trade...
  6. I liken the Mets to the 2001-2002 Bucks. Ray Allen, Glenn Robinson, Sam Cassell, Tim Thomas, Anthony Mason (yes I know)...all the talent in the world yet there is something that doesn't mesh there. Their chemistry is just...off. Maybe it's the hitting but a shakeup of some kind is needed. Wait. Isn’t that the team that got screwed in the Eastern Conference Finals? The Mets are a dysfunctional World Series contender? You're thinking about the previous year - in 01-02, the Bucks went 41-41 and missed the playoffs.
  7. Nooooooo.... I was so looking forward to hearing Uecker trying to pronounce that name...
  8. The only thing that I like about Gilbert Lara is that he shares a last name with one of the all-time great cricketers...
  9. FWIW, I'm also of the opinion that Stearns just gave up two very minor prospects for a rental of a pitcher who has been really good for most of his career - as recently as last year he was 6th in the Cy Young voting, wasn't he? There's still talent there... Would I like to see Woodruff/Burnes get a crack at it? Sure. But given that this wasn't going to happen, that there's no long-term commitment here, and how bad Guerra is looking over his past few starts, I'm fine with taking this chance on a guy with a good history.
  10. I think they can, but then they lose the right to revoke the waivers and have no leverage in trade discussions at all.
  11. I don't believe this is correct. As noted in my previous post, over the next three years, he's due $35M a year in salary, plus he gets a $15M annually as part of his original signing bonus. However, ALL of the salary ($105M total) is deferred. The only cash he gets the next three years is the $15M bonus money - which he gets each year. Yeah, looking it over here: https://www.spotrac.com/mlb/washington-nationals/max-scherzer-5166/ I think I may have interpreted it wrong. Still, locking yourself into a $15M annual obligation for 7 years for a player who won't even be here is not a risk many GMs are going to be willing to take, if any. That's huge for a deferred amount and not for a short period of time. What if you could get him to restructure that $105M? If he'd extend by a year in order to get that money sooner, say 4 years at $26.25M per year (or even $27 as an additional incentive to getting the money earlier), wouldn't that be worth taking a chance on?
  12. I'm sure that you're right. The question is, who clears waivers that the Brewers will want (and that other teams will want in return)?
  13. Max Scherzer, when the Nationals finally give up... Oddly, he might actually clear waivers with all of that deferred money...
  14. On the plus side, no prospects were shipped to the Reds for Matt Harvey...
  15. Sarcasm doesn't negate the point that it's a lot easier to make a deal today than tomorrow... (setting aside the time crunch) I’d rather make no deals than a deal Stearns isn’t comfortable making. It’ll serve us better as a franchise. Pitching hasn’t been our issue. It’d be a cherry on top if we can swing it. I agree 100%. And missing out on Archer doesn't bother me that much - as I've said several times, I see big red flags there - it's Gausman that intrigued me. But, as I've also said before, I wanted the Brewers to sign Cobb - so what do I know?

  17. My bold prediction: The happiest team today will be the Cubs - just to see the Brewers fail to improve their rotation at all. sigh...
  18. He is definitely my least favorite option but it all depends on cost I don't care about the cost. I'd rather stand pat. I don't think Harvey adds anything to this team, so why give up anything?
  19. Fake Rosenthal account. Haudricourt was duped. I don't feel bad about not seeing it coming then...
  20. I did not see the Schoop trade coming...
  21. This is probably the least Bold one I’ve seen. Yet, it’s the exact answer I’d have. Seems to be the most realistic as well. I'm not seeing the point of such a move. He's not pitching all that well, and he's basically yet another 5-inning pitcher right now. Who does he replace in the rotation given that?
  22. On a more serious note, if the Nats took Braun and his salary for Harper, what else would you be willing to give up in order to make it happen?
  23. I'd love to say A, but the truth is that it depends on the player coming back. Of the pitchers that we've heard mentioned: DeGrom, Syndergaard of course... Gibson, Gausman, Fulmer, Wheeler, Duffy maybe - depends upon what's given up. Archer - no... no... and, in case I wasn't clear the first two times, absolutely not... Of course, what do I know? I liked Cobb in the off-season...
