  1. So at this point it's Brinson and Ortiz. And Ortiz is on the DL right now and in High A. I love both of them, but the return seems light.
  2. Toby Harrah, Bump Wills, David Clyde and Prince Fielder to the Brewers. Sorry, I'm getting punchy. Need to get off this board for a while.
  3. Is Bump Wills coming back to Milwaukee in the deal?
  4. Name a professional baseball player who's last name is a palindrome. Joey Galloollag
  5. If Gallo is the centerpiece, it better be just Lucroy.
  6. Given what some of the RP rentals have brought back, and a nice haul for Oakland in the Reddick/Rich Hill deal, I just don't think this is true. In fact, it seems the problem in the Cleveland deal was that he was still under contract for next year, but they wouldn't commit to him as their FT catcher.
  7. Yes, but he'll also be going from an extreme offense-repression park to an extreme offense-boosting park. I'd be very surprised if he puts up that kind of number in Milwaukee. Think you missed the 666 significance I totally did
  8. Yes, but he'll also be going from an extreme offense-repression park to an extreme offense-boosting park. I'd be very surprised if he puts up that kind of number in Milwaukee.
  9. Just saw this and I couldn't help but think of you and what you just said. @BrewCrewBlue If you think the only names we've heard for the Lucroy trades are the only ones involved, you don't know how trades work. Fine, none of us are on the phone with the FO, but Stearns is trolling us if get a broken catcher and another meh middle infielder for the 2nd best catcher in the game. How is Stearns trolling anybody? There was a report that TDA and Herrera would have to be a part of a Lucroy deal. That's not a statement from Stearns and nowhere did it say that was the whole package. What is with your dislike of Stearns anyway, so much that you keep preemptively blaming him for bad deals that he has not made?
  10. Non-waiver trade must be submitted by the deadline for sure, and it's possible they need to be approved by the league office by then. Lucroy not a candidate for a waiver trade, as his inexpensive contract makes somebody claiming him very likely.
  11. If this deal doesn't get worked out, I don't think Lucroy goes anywhere until the offseason. If Stearns takes a lesser deal now I'll be pretty disappointed.
  12. Wrong,. It's a business move by Lucroy. And a smart one. We may not like it, but i'm not going to beat up Lucroy over trying to use his leverage.
  13. That is my favorite post on this thread.
  14. In theory, the effectiveness is lessened because it takes time for a new catcher to learn a new staff. I don't know that I buy that.
  15. Oh, how I wish I lived in Madison! "Ummm, excuse me, but have you seen a Squirtle in here?"
  16. This is correct. The pricing is significantly cheaper for students. Also, Sunday Ticket can be streamed on Sony's Playstation network for sure, and probably on Microsoft's Xbox network (whatever it's called), so if he has a gaming system there would be no need for DirectTV or use of a tablet.
  17. Sale was exactly the thought I had when I saw this deal. If they were willing to give up a pile of players, why not go and get a top of rotation pitcher. That would make more sense, particularly when their starting pitching isn't particularly young like their position players.
  18. By Baseball Prospectus' PECOTA system, Chapman is worth .5 WAR the rest of this season, Jeffress worth 1.1 WAR through 2019. I really don't think it's a relevant question though. Teams that make deadline deals are trying to win this year. Jeffress' value past this year won't mean a lot to the team trading for him, IMO. It's almost strictly about what he can do over the remaining games this year.
  19. Seriously?? McKinney is not a huge prospect. He's still young (turns 22 next month) but he's "slugging" .322 at AA and carrying an OPS of .677. Warren is 5th starter material who'll turn 28 next month. Crawford is a non-entity. Torres is the lone gem here and he's not in the class of Adam Russell or Baez. A comparable Brewer package would be Isan Diaz (Torres comp), Tyrone Taylor (McKinney), Wily Peralta (Warren), and Elvis Rubio (Crawford). That's not a great haul for one of the premier relievers in the game. Cubs have nice prospects but they get over-hyped. To get a guy who's likely to get key outs in the postseason, it's not an overpay by any means. If you think Diaz and Taylor equals Torres and McKinney, then it's not as much of an overpay. I'm pretty sure the industry doesn't consider those equal packages though. The Cubs did what a smart team in their position should do. They dealt from strength and used their prospect depth to strengthen their major league club. If it helps them win the World Series it will be worth it. But if they don't win it they gave away a valuable package of players for nothing. That's a risky move, particularly considering the Cubs had a good enough team to win it all before dealing for Chapman.
  20. I'm assuming this part was tongue-in-cheek because there is a 0% chance of that deal happening.
  21. Demand for Smith has absolutely been there, but I haven't spoken to anyone since yesterday's game. I made reference to it in the game thread, but one bad outing isn't going to move the needle much regarding any player's value, unless there is an injury concern. Multiple poor games strung together will, but not one.
  22. Cubs have a 22 year old SS who started the major league All Star game. Torres isn't in that class. McKinney is a guy who's "slugging" .322 at AA. Seems like a guy with a high prospect rating based on who drafted him more than anything. He's shown little power other than a stint in Cal League, and no SB ability. I'm not sure they are giving up anything that will come back and haunt them down the road. Chapman gives them the kind of lock down bullpen where Maddon can pull his starter after 5 innings of a playoff game and lock the opponent down. You never know what any prospect will do until they get there, so all we can go on is where they are valued now. And right now, the Cubs are giving their #1, their #5 and another prospect, plus a warm body in Warren for a guy they are going to have for less than 1/2 a season. If the Cubs win the World Series this year nobody will ever care what Torres, McKinney, or the third guy turn into. But if they don't win it all, it was a lot to give
  23. I think it's reasonable to think they just don't want him to make a start in Colorado Springs. On the other hand, moving him to Tuesday lines him up with Garza's sport in the rotation. If Garza didn't have another year left on his deal I'd say they were going to cut Garza loose and bring Peralta back. The odds of this happening right now are pretty small, IMO, but I don't think it's a zero possibility situation either.
