  1. I totally agree. He may be part of a proposed deal, and he may look like the big name from a casual fan's view because he is a ML player, but I can't imagine, given what Stearns' stated goal is, that he is the centerpiece of a deal with the Brewers.
  2. Casey, I'll be hoping for 'One Toke Over the Line' to be playing over the PA at some point tonight.
  3. I think it's reasonable to think they just don't want him to make a start in Colorado Springs.
  4. I just can't figure out how no one waved their hands and just said, "This is a horrible trade! This is a horrible trade!" I realize they wanted a guy they felt was a top of the rotation type player, but even running the deal by a couple of semi knowledgable fans would have caused them concern. Just weird. I'm pretty sure that Dave Stewart is of the "if you never played the game you don't know anything" school of thought.
  5. If the Brewers won't accept the deal, how is that the Mets have "enough" to get a deal done?
  6. I really hate to say this, because it makes things look worse for Brewers' RP values, but WAR is not a good stat to use for relief pitchers because of the batters faced component of it. Because RPs usage is low, a small increase in the amount of innings pitched can effect a RPs WAR to a greater degree. I like to use xFIP because it accounts for outliers in HR rate. Sadly, the Brewers look even worse then.
  7. MLB Trade Rumors now has Torres, Warren and McKinney in the deal, with 1 more prospect not yet known. Also, they are reporting no extension negotiations with Chapman. That is a lot to pay for a 1/2 season. Obviously the Cubs see the value of a strong pen, but if they don't win it all that is a bunch to give up.
  8. Ball hit to our 3rd baseman was an out...probably should have been 2. The last 6 outs was the most Brewers thing ever. Yeah, I would say he should have made the play, but it wasn't exactly a slow roller either. That thing was a rocket. I hate games like this. Decent lead for most of the game, but miss on a few chances to take the lead. SP pitches well, gets pulled and the bullpen implodes. It's not over yet, but it feels like it is.
  9. It would be nice if players made plays to record outs/double plays. Even nicer if Smith could get somebody out today.
  10. And Will Smith really enhancing his trade value today......
  11. That is interesting and I would have went with Nelson over Pomeranz as Nelson has more team control left. I wonder if a Lucroy deal is on the table with the Red Sox and the Brewers are just waiting on the Rangers to find a third team or become serious with their offers. I actually believe the Brewers have given up on trying to get Gallo and the Rangers are just being reluctant on giving up any of their young pitching prospects. It could mean something else, both potentially bad for the Brewers & it's rebuilding process: 1) the Brewers wanted Espinoza plus for Nelson. A reflection of possibly over estimating the value of their own talent. 2) if it was a Boston choice straight up (Nelson or Pomeranz for Espinoza only) and they went with Pomeranz, it could signify that many pieces of Brewer talent is not highly regarded outside of Milwaukee (and its fan base). Am I wrong thinking that Pomeranz over Nelson is a no-brainer? The Sox made this deal to win this year, the effect of future years on this deal is minimal to non-existent. So, why would they even consider Nelson over Pomeranz, given those parameters? Nelson has been worth 1.0 WAR by Fangraphs, 0.2 WAR by Baseball Prospectus. Pomeranz has been worth 2.3 WAR by Fangraphs, 3.0 WAR by Baseball Prospectus. I guess I just don't understand why Boston would consider Nelson over Pomeranz.
  12. Well, either these trades will happen or they won't, so they're all 50/50, aren't they?
  13. The problem with Garza is that his contract runs through next year, so even if you find a team willing to take a flyer on him this year without giving up talent in return, they aren't going to want to be stuck with even a $3-5 million obligation (assuming the Brewers pay the rest) for 2017 if he continues to be terrible. This is why he's a candidate for a post-deadline trade in August if he pitches well. I don't think he will, but it's there if he does. Nobody will claim him, so the Brewers will be able to get him through, then deal him. It will cost them some money, but it would be worth it to get a low level lottery ticket or 2, IMO.
  14. Saw a blog post saying Groome is in Boston for a physical, which would mean his signing is imminent. I can't wait to see how much he gets.
  15. Well, yes, but........... .........if you have $5, you have $5 problems, if you have $500,000..... I'm not saying they don't have it easier than the average joe or joan. But that doesn't mean it's easier to be away from family when they have to be. Maybe I'm overly sensitive to this because I live away from my kids and it sucks.
  16. Yes, the have financial and work life bonuses that none of us will ever see, but that doesn't make it any easier to live away from your family. I guess it makes it easier to see them some if they have time off during the season, but they still miss a ton of time and can miss a lot of milestones during the time from mid-February to early October. And the time they are off are when their kids are in school, they don't get to take time off during the summer when their kids are off. Money buys a lot of perks, but it can't buy time.
  17. I think the recent history of players not signing and going back into the draft shows that he should sign. Granted my memory sucks, but has there been a high pick who skipped signing, then got substantially more the next year?
  18. Of course, there is no incentive for Groome to sign before the deadline. He knows what the Red Sox' number is and he wants it higher. It's in his best interest to wait until the last minute. Regarding getting paid what is 'fair'.....whatever the team will pay you is fair. Groome is working within the system to get the most money he can now. At the deadline, if the number is right, he'll sign. I'm not sure there is an argument that could persuade me that he should approach this in a different way. Isn't he doing exactly what Chad McClanahan did with the Brewers about 2 weeks ago?
  19. Breaking them down: 3 at first, 5 at 3rd (!!) and 2 at home. By comparison, Lucroy, Braun and Carter have made a total of 8 outs on the bases. Everybody that is defending Villar, read this info again! Ten unforced errors on the bases! Five at third! I have played ball for decades and cannot remember any whole team of mine getting chucked at 3rd 5 times in one season ( unforced). Great info! Source? Maybe you guys weren't aggressive enough taking extra bases.
  20. I am lazy enough not to want to read through all the posts I've missed over the last 5 days or so, so I'm wondering if I'm missing something about Davies being upset. I know Boras voiced his displeasure, as I would expect him to do. As an agent, part of his job is to just that. I would assume most agents would. Boras is just way more likely to do it publicly than other agents. But I don't think him making a public statement is any evidence to the degree that Davies is angry (or upset, or whatever his emotions are) regarding this move. I expect Davies doesn't like it, but is it "This sucks, but this is what happens to players with low service time" dislike or is it "This is B.S. and I want out of Milwaukee ASAP" dislike? Do we have any idea or is it all just speculation?
  21. I realize Wade isn't going to get younger, but he played 54, 62, and 74 games the last 3 years. Suddenly predicting that he'll average 33 games per season is a bit of hyperbole isn't it? Absolutely it's hyperbole, but what's the serious number? I was just making a point that Wade is over the hill by NBA standards and, given his history, he's not going to be there for 75 games a year. If looking for a true number I wouldn't bet the over on anything higher than 165.
  22. I don't think this means anything. Young players and their agents don't like the system and complain about, but that's all the Brewers are doing, working within the system. When the time comes, Borax will take Davies to free agency and sign with the highest bidder, like he always does. There is no loyalty with free agency on either side. I would imagine Andy Wilkins and his agent are ecstatic about the decision.
  23. Per the Bucks blog at JSOnline, the meeting is back on with Wade and will take place this afternoon. Bucks can't realistically do anything right now, but if they commit to a 3 year deal he will either sign with the Bucks after the Bucks do some restructuring (likely moving Monroe), or use it as leverage to get the 3 year deal he wants elsewhere. It sounds like right now Miami has offered 2 years, $40 million and Denver 2 years, $50 million. So the Bucks would almost certainly have to go 3 years and at least $50 million to get this done. I really hope this doesn't happen. If it does, what's the over/under of games played over 3 seasons for Wade? I put it at 100 (out of 246).
  24. He does have 22 HRs. And we all know that chicks dig the long ball.
