  1. $1,000,000 in savings seems unreal to me. Maybe I'm underestimating the power of compound interest, but how the hell does an average American making ~$50k a year ever get there? Luckily I will have a pension to rely on. I forget to factor that in, so that allows for my 403(b) total to be a fraction of what I actually need. That is if the WRS can be relied on (so far, it is in GREAT shape).
  2. What bizarre exchange with Winston Moss last summer?
  3. My dad just retired and his retirement account is quite underwhelming, IMO. He isn't a financial schmuck, though, and he doesn't seem to worry about it. When I think about it, though, he has a nice home that is paid off. My mother is still working and has quality insurance. She is an educator and will have a pension upon retirement in a year or two. He has SS income that probably allows him to dip into his very modest retirement savings very little. If/when they choose to downsize, that's another $160k or more in their pockets (they'd have a rent payment each month, obviously). I often read that you should have $500k or $1million dollars put away for retirement and that seems like it'd be great, but depending on how you want to live, you can probably get by on a fraction of that (again, assuming SS and other income is still available).
  4. At Marquette next Saturday is a tough game. I'm not sure this team is one that can look past anybody. If Happ or Trice is off they will struggle, although the supporting cast is looking stronger.
  5. I never have faith in Iowa playing up to what they "should" do. They have a coach who lacks self-control and that is reflected on the court at times. It'd be nice if they were at least a solid middle of the pack B1G team, though. Nice road win.
  6. Because your post was about you, not Badger football. You came to a Badger football thread to tell everyone you have little interest in football this fall. It just seemed strange.
  7. It's strange you felt compelled to make a post like this in a thread about Badger football.
  8. Do you have examples of us getting better bowl games than we deserve because of our fan base traveling? I'd say that IF that has been the case, it has typically been in years where 3 B1G teams have been in BCS/New Years 6 bowls, bumping other programs up a notch on the bowl assignment chart.
  9. Right. I admittedly would rather that officials err on the side of "no calls" vs turning the game into a foul fest, but offenses need to adjust to a guy like Davison who puts himself in position to be successful. It isn't legal to put your head down and drive through a defender.
  10. The problem is that you're never going to get a charging call if you don't hit the floor (with the exception being if there is major arm extension by the offensive player). A defender doesn't have to let the offensive guy run through him. The only option is to "sell" the actual foul by hitting the deck.
  11. Care to elaborate? I think the only charge that was bogus was the one in the lane where the guy's leg basically grazed Davison. The first two were obvious. The guy put his shoulder in his chest on the last one. Davison is a great position defender. Teams are going to have to learn that putting your head down to get around him isn't going to work.
  12. I'm not nearly as frugal as I should be considering my wife and I make pretty modest money (~85k combined). We manage to do alright, though, including putting money away into a 401(k), 403(b), and my state pension account. That said, there's no way I'm living a shelled life at 33 so I can maybe enjoy life at 45 a bit more...
  13. I concur with a lot of this. And I think the weakening of unions coincides with the value of labor being overtaken by the value of capital. It's easy to earn money when you have money.
  14. Rough stretch for the markets lately. How ya'll holding up?
  15. Maybe those people don't drink or don't get ****-faced. I'd rather drive home than spend $100 on a hotel room. This is a strange response. Obviously, fans wouldn’t be required to get a hotel room and could choose to drive home…
  16. I would be surprised if he wasn’t top 15.
  17. Agreed.
  18. I’d agree with this. It’s a dollar blown at a bar or out eating or on some toy if I’m not saving. It’s not like it’s a primary investment account. That makes sense, too.
  19. Up $1.00. 17%+ growth since I got in. I’m clearly a savant.
  20. Is there any way we have the prospect capital for this?
  21. I just read about the $1 a month rate. That definitely is a downer. I read a bit about it and thought it might be a nice secondary way to save up for a vacation or something without really even noticing the money going anywhere.
  22. Anyone use Acorns app or anything like it? Thoughts?
  23. Jumped in the market for the first time today. Used Robinhood app. I'm the owner of a tiny amount of shares of Aurora Cannabis, which has jumped $.14 a share in the minutes since I bought. Sell high, right!?!? Just kidding. Should be fun. Going to educate myself along the way.
  24. That is a crazy statistic.
  25. What’s a “sizable” savings? Are you talking like a 6 months’ expenses safety net or larger than that? Covering several months of expenses is very wise. Beyond that, you might want to look to a spot where you might get higher returns than your typica savings account.
