  1. Does this solidify him as a top 10 prospect in baseball? That 60 power is a bit surprising. I thought they'd go 50. Maybe 55.
  2. It wouldn’t make sense for a team to pay a buyout if the player is the one backing away. Can someone confirm?
  3. I agree. We are building a savings for a down payment to build or buy a home, likely within the next year. It's great having a 2% growth option for that.
  4. 2% on my savings account through Ally Bank.
  5. You’ll take a .300+ Ave, 25+ HR guy over the unknown of KH? You don’t say...
  6. Gonna move my stuff to either the FID 500 Index vs FID low priced stock fund. Both seem to have performed well in the past. The FID 500 Index has a lower fee (and is probably a bit safer), so I am leaning that way.
  7. Should I just transfer to a fund indexed to the S&P 500? I'm not looking to actively move this thing around a ton. In a few years I might remove a little bit of risk, but I'm still relatively early int he process (even at 33 years old).
  8. Same. Thanks to everyone who has contributed, especially those offering insight to the string of questions I have posted recently.
  9. I'm going to look into this. I'll have to look closer at what Fidelity has to offer. I have a pension, my wife has a Roth that she is funding quite well. I think I can be a bit riskier... Just confirmed...Right now I'm 51% domestic, 35% foreign stocks, 7% bonds, 7% short term (not sure what this means). Anyone have more insight on domestic vs foreign stocks?
  10. What is your concern with a target fund? I think I’m currently ~50-52% domestic stocks, 30-32% foreign stocks, and the rest divided up amongst bonds and whatever else (you’d probably know better than I). You thinking 90+% stocks this far out?
  11. He DID mention life insurance at the end of our meeting! Lol I have a small amount through my employer (3x salary). Not sure what makes sense beyond that.
  12. I think this plan makes sense for most people in the accumulation phase. It sounds like you’ve got the right idea. Just look fo low cost, equity index funds within your retirement plans. I don’t use a financial advisor (most are glorified sales people), but I will consult a JD/CPA as I get closer to retirement or when my assets hit critical mass. Is it worth paying fees at a place like Edward Jones for this, though? I know it's "only .25%" or whatever he says, but that's still money lost for...I'm not sure what.
  13. Question...Who out there uses a financial advisor? It seems easier than ever to manage your own retirement savings without the cost of an advisor. My wife and Ali met with a guy at Edward Jones today. It was a good conversation, and we got a few things straightened out, but I left feeling like we would’t get value out of the fees we pay until much later on. Our plan is to basically keep pumping into her Roth 401(k) and my Traditional 403(b) and let the market do its work. We don’t have real estate or other investments to consider (outside of a couple small 529 accounts). I could see the value in a few years when it comes to managing tax burden and other factors when we start withdrawing funds. I think my Fidelity account targeted for 2045 probably does me well. Thoughts?
  14. Whoa. They're eating $38 million?
  15. I think he puts our offense in the "Very good/Elite category". He's that big of a piece. It helps that I'm of the belief that we have seen the best of Aguilar. I don't think he's an .850 OPS player. Closer to .800 and maybe under that.
  16. Where do you live? What does retirement look like in your mind? I live just outside of Green Bay, but hope to build a modest (but nice) custom cottage in Door County for retirement. I’d like to go out for dinner often, but otherwise, I see us spending most of our time reading, walking, and maintaining a small garden or orchard. If we’re speaking strictly in 2018 dollars, then I hope the $2 million portfolio will generate about $80K (4%) annually in passive income for an indefinite period. If you don't mind me asking, what does your current income/savings percentage look like?

  19. I think my Woodruff/Aggie offer is very generous. Some seem to think that it's going to take a lot more. I'd rather deal Peralta or Z. Brown over Woodruff. I'd exchange those names if it'd get the deal done.
  20. I'd be interested in going back to the origin of the thread (At what age do you hope to retire) and adding ?How much do you plan on having saved away at that point?" I should go back and look. Maybe many included that already.
  21. It sounds much less daunting. My old man has significantly less than that put away. Maybe he is delusional and I should be more worried about his financial well-being.
  22. It would probably take a third major piece to land him, IMO. Really? For one year? Those are two viable Major League Starters with control. One with pretty good upside as a SP. A minor league ticket maybe, but I think that's pretty damn good value already.
  23. Can we get Goldschmidt? What would it take? Aggie and Woodruff do it? I'd make that deal.
  24. Is $333,000 by age 50 a reasonable amount for most Americans? I don't know. My wife and I are meeting with a financial planner for the first time next Thursday. I am building up all sorts of questions about her 401(K), my 403(B), my pension, SS, kids' 529 accounts, etc... I'll be 34 at the end of the month. Should have started this 10 years ago, but its better late than never, I guess.
