  1. That is funny. Without looking back, I bet you'd see the opposite sentiment in the beginning of this thread.
  2. I was a P90X failure my first time through (take a look at the author of this thread). I made it through a couple of weeks, but I started at a bad time and eventually that became my excuse for stopping. I'm looking to get back into it. I'm not concerned about the workouts. I know how tough they are and I'll need to ease into them the first week. Nutrition. I don't cook, but I currently have plenty of time to start getting decent at it. I want to make a run the grocery store tonight. Throw out some basic food ideas that you recommend keeping around the house. I'll get chicken breasts and eggs for sure, but what are some things that I wouldn't normally think of. Include snack foods, as well. THANKS!
  3. It might sound funny, but athletic success is really not that great of an indicator of the strength of a conference in the grand scheme of things.
  4. As a Badger fan I'd be ecstatic getting Texas into the Big 10. That would only help us recruiting in that hot spot for football talent. Wisconsin is always going to struggle to keep up with a team like Texas, but the same can be said for OSU. It certainly makes the conference tougher, but if that was a major issue we should join the MAC. About Texas leaving the Big 12...that conference is on rocky ground. Colorado has been interested in joining the Pac-10 for years. Mizzou would likely jump at the chance to join the Big Ten. Once a team jumps, the conference faces collapse which would leave Texas and other schools scrambling. They may just be interested in choosing their destiny while they still have a choice.
  5. Which should be viewed as a strong strong reason why both parties would be attracted to Texas joining the Big Ten. That doesn't at all diminish the appeal of joining the Big Ten. If Texas aims to improve it's standing as an elite research university, joining the CIC would be very appealing.
  6. The fact that Texas is a big-time academic and research university would only make Big Ten more appealing to them. Joining the CIC would open doors to HUGE amounts of funding and research opportunity. I'm not sure if you read it, but if you didn't, take a look at the link I posted in my previous post. It is very informative.
  7. Check out this link. http://frankthetank.wordpress.com/2009/12/27/the-big-ten-expansion-index-a-different-shade-of-orange/ I think it really makes it clear how important academics (and the rest of the $) will be to this. Very interesting read.
  8. You are vastly underestimating the importance of academics and research to the Big Ten. Remember that each of the Big Ten schools plus the University of Chicago make up the CIC. These schools co-op on billions of dollars of research and pool many resources that are beyond the reach of other public research universities. Joining the Big Ten would provide Texas with millions of dollars based on athletics alone, but it would allow it to jump into the truly elite of public university research.
  9. Anyone who boos a player for going to arbitration and winning is a tool. Now if he doesn't perform decently...
  10. I believe he went 6 shutout innings against the Cardinals. It was a Saturday, I was in Menomonie, and the game wasn't televised. I have no idea why I remember that day so well. I'm going to go with Cristian Guerrero again. He was the Brewers one hope to be a big time prospect when I first started monitoring the minors, and as we know, it turned out to be all hype.
  11. The Show rules and I'm pumped to pick it up again in a couple of weeks. I played in a VERY well run league last year. We actually got through 2 entire seasons and are doing a brief third season right now. That probably increased my enjoyment of the game a bit. I'm pretty sure that I heard this year you will be able to make trades and such in online leagues. That could be very cool if done properly.
  12. We may not hit 3 million fans this year, but a year ago we were basically at the tail end of the greatest economic crisis the country has faced since the GD. I don't think the economic outlook could possibly be any more shakier than it was 1 year ago. I think the fact that we are coming off a disappointing season rather than the most exciting season in over 25 years will be the greatest reason for any drop in attendance. If we can get hot early to boos April/May interest and then stay in strong contention into August I think 3 mil is doable again. If either one of these fail to happen then we end up just shy. If both fail to happen (slow start, never bounce back) then we might struggle to get to 2.2.
  13. Really? It is warm in Texas?
  14. I enjoy this thread too much and am almost disappointed when it goes away. Anything fun coming up in the foreseeable future, Weather Man?
  15. I hated reading Spenser more than anything. At least when reading "Paradise Lost" you feel like you are accomplishing something. That helps push you through the muddle to to a degree. It was also an interesting concept for a person brought up with a Catholic education. Edmund Spenser was just horrible for me. I still have my "Faerie Queene" text, so maybe I will give it another shot.
  16. bcm, you can mark me as another lover of Light in August.
  17. Celebrated my 25th on Sunday at Lambeau. Great time!
  18. We must share a birthday, adam. I turned 25 yesterday. Congrats!
  19. Reading "The Catcher in the Rye" for the 2nd time right now. Also reading "We Were the Mulvaneys."
  20. How was Hayward more impressive than Leuer? Look at their numbers and then look at the shots needed to get there. Check out the turnovers. Hayward might be the better athlete, but I'm not sure he is the better basketball player.
  21. Yep, today was one of those days where your snot freezes as you inhale. Nice!
  22. OWBC, what about us folks up here in the Wausau area? Don't we get a premium forecast? I kid...but really, any snow coming?
  23. I stormed Camp Randall when the Badgers beat OSU the season after they won the national title (2003?). That was pretty sweet. When you get emotionally involved in a big game like that it is almost a natural reaction now to the horn. I think the idea of "defeating ESPN" is also an important aspect of this. No matter what WE think about the UW program, we beat their baby.
  24. #1 No Country for Old Men In no particular order- There Will Be Blood The Departed Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind The Wrestler Gladiator Juno
  25. His numbers are more impressive to me every time I look at them. What a year he had! Is it reasonable to expect .310/35/120 next year? Obviously that last number depends a lot on who we put in front of him, but having a guy who you could reasonably project to have those numbers is nice. Especially when you consider he is locked up for 6 years.
