  1. Manny was drafted in the 26th round. Who said 42nd? Nevermind, I just checked out the link. Maybe he was drafted coming out of HS, prior to his time at community college, but Parra was drafted in the 26th round by the Brewers.
  2. Draft starts at 5 CT, right? What time should we expect the Brewers to make their pick? Closest estimate, of course. Sorry if this is the wrong place.
  3. Sheepshead tonight anyone? Play some cards and listen to minor league audio.
  4. Well, his splits against RHP took a jump today with a 3-5 performance with a triple and HR. But I see no need to rush him. If they get good value for JJ, make a deal then bring him up.
  5. I don't understand what you are saying. Why do you think such discussions are funny? The way I read it, you are contradicting yourself. You start out by devaluing the award given to scholarship athletes and then go on to exalt the opportunity awarded to such athletes.
  6. I'm not arguing that they should give up on these pitchers as starter necessarily. I think that after spending several years in the minor leagues and suffering multiple injuries, perhaps it would be best to maximize each players potential contributions as a Brewer by letting them work under the reduced load of a reliever. This should help them stay healthier longer, which means they'll have more time working on their pitching ability. If they stay healthy for a few years and continue to develop, then they can try to "stretch out" and start again.
  7. Should the Brewers consider moving guys to the relief role earlier to increase the odds of getting production from them? I'm talking guys like Mike Jones and Mark Rogers. The odds have been pretty well stacked against them due to injuries. Both are reportedly throwing mid-90s yet, though and are performing pretty well in their limited innings. The chances that they build up the arm strength and endurance to be a starter in the minors and then show the success necessary to translate to the majors seems quite remote. Why don't these guys assume consistent roles as relief pitchers? They can move up the chain a bit more quickly, raising the chances that they contribute in Milwaukee some day. If they do that, which means they stay healthy, there might be a point down the road where they can be stretched out and start (a la Braden Looper and others). After watching players like JM Gold and Nick Neugebauer pretty much vanish with little more than a sniff of MLB, why not a change of course? Have the Brewers converted an injury prone, high-end power pitcher to the bullpen before that I am not thinking about? edit: subject spelling
  8. Ah I see. I did a wiki search on Beane and found the same. Thanks for the scoop. I hadn't known Beane as anything but a GM until now.
  9. I didn't read the book. How does he have "Billy Beane" written all over him?
  10. I'd feel more confident if his name was Bryce Moeller.
  11. I'm headizzle on yahoo and I'm up for some games too. I pick a little weak at times, but I play just like I play in my money games. People who pass w/3 trump and a Q or 4 trump under the gun make me mad.
  12. Actually he stated a couple years ago that the Patriots were now his team. Simply feeding his base? I hope so.
  13. I'm there. I actually think I was the guy who pointed you this way, weshelmsfan18. I wouldn't forget that name.
  14. I disagree with both of you. When he pitched well he was adored and given a big contract for it. When he didn't pitch he took heat. No sign of disrespect there.
  15. What power does the league have over agents? None, I would imagine.
  16. I admit that I voted mostly for Brewers on the two ballots I filled out at the May 2 game I was at. I think the only two Brewers I didn't vote for were JJ and Kendall. They were both pretty atrocious at the time.
  17. I didn't look through the whole thread, but put me in with the crowd willing to give Escobar and Jeffress for Peavey (if there isn't a crowd I'm starting one). The way the offense is clicking, this and next are the years to make a big push. Throw in Hall and eat a couple million of salary even. I wanted to say Suppan, but we'd be eating more than a couple million, then.
  18. Sweet! What's it run a person? Definitely will look into this one.
  19. I'd say we just jumped from civil discourse right over brutal honesty into condescending talk. (edit: long quote --1992)
  20. I disagree completely fondy. Can we lock this thread up and just keep it as a statement from HY to Brewerfan.net. Nothing new or good can come of this.
  21. As a dependent with an EFC at 20,000 you better plan on getting something from your folks. My EFC never approached $20,000 and I wouldn't have made it without some help from my folks. Remember, if you were independent you'd likely be eligible for Pell Grants and other aid. Being a dependent catches your parents some nice tax breaks, so it isn't wrong for you to expect some sort of help from them. I kept it to a minimum. If I had a stretch where I couldn't pay my rent for a month, they'd help. I'm not saying you should expect $20,000 a year from them, but have a talk with them and get on the same page.
  22. That wedding ring argument holds no water. The ball was never Coghlan's. He just hit it out. The moment Happy caught it it was his property. This is more along the lines of someone running a raffle and then asking the winner to give the prize back. It shouldn't be expected, but should be negotiable.
  23. Yeah, cuz the media was going crazy with Brewer stories before Wednesday.
  24. I would say flamboyant fits. It means colorful or bold. Check out this definition. 1. strikingly bold or brilliant; showy: flamboyant colors. 2. conspicuously dashing and colorful: the flamboyant idol of international society. 3. florid; ornate; elaborately styled: flamboyant speeches. 4. Architecture. a. having the form of an ogee, as a bar of tracery. b. noting or pertaining to French Gothic architecture of the late 15th and early and middle 16th centuries, characterized by the use of flamboyant tracery, intricacy of detailing, virtuosity of workmanship, attenuation of parts, and frequent complication of interior space.
