  1. The two starters you mentioned handing the ball to start a Wild Card game did not even start the year off in the Brewers rotation plans. I love Freddy but that's a high pressure situation to throw any rookie into. And Guerra has been good this year but he's still to me a journeyman minor leaguer that shows inconsistency. FYI, potential starters other contenders can start a Wild Card game with: Nationals- Max Scherzer Philies- Jake Arrietta Braves- Julio Teheran or Mike Folty Dodgers- Clayton Kershaw Dbacks- Zack Greinke Giants- Madison Bumgarner Rockies- Kyle Freeland or Jon Gray
  2. I personally think he would be our best starter and I'd hand him the ball to start a Wild Card Game with confidence. So I guess that's my point. I'm sure others may disagree.
  3. Cole Hamels, LHP Texas Rangers 2018 Stats: 109 IP 40BB 109K 4.36 ERA 1.34 WHIP Past his prime but his change-up is still one of the Top 30 pitches in all of baseball. 2018 Contract: $22.5M 2019 Contact: Club Option for $20M with a $6M buyout. Bottom line is he's overpriced and past his prime. However, since a lot of Brewer fans don't want to part with our best prospects, I think Hamels could be a fine target that won't cost the moon. His club option for next year could be a plus or a minus. There's some risk involved but I would pony up the $$ and pick up the option. If the Brewers are contending again next July, keep Hamels. If they are not, you have option to trade him off and restock the farm a bit with what you gave up. While acquiring a cost, controlled young starter with ACE-like potential would be great, there is some risk involved that either someone like Marcus Stroman or Kevin Gausman could reach their potential before they even hit free agency. With a veteran like Hamels, a contending team doesn't have to worry as much about enduring growing pains, just health. If you look at the age of our current/future rotation, I think they could all learn something from a Vet like Cole, who's 34. Chase Anderson age 30 Jhoulys Chacin age 30 Jimmy Nelson age 29 Brent Suter age 28 Zach Davies age 25 Brandon Woodruff age 25 Corbin Burnes age 23 Freddy Peralta age 22 and of course Junior Guerra age 33 (but he doesn't have the MLB experience like Hamels) I do think that Rangers will receive some nice offers for him in spite of his price tag so the Brewers will have to give up something of value of course, but likely no blue-chip prospects. Thoughts?
  4. My moves as GM 1. Acquire RHP Marcus Stroman (controlled thru 2020) from Blue Jays for RHP Brandon Woodruff, 3B Lucas Erceg, OF Domingo Santana and RHP Marcos Diplan. 2. Acquire 2B Brian Dozier (rental) from Twins for RHP Luis Ortiz, RHP Cody Ponce and OF Troy Stokes Jr 3. Acquire RHP Nate Jones (rental) from White Sox for OF Keon Broxton and RHP Trey Supak. Brewers keep blue-chippers keep Peralta, Burnes and Huira. Also future blue-chippers, Corey Ray, Tristen Lutz and Zack Brown. Willing to include Brett Phillips or Trent Grisham in one of the above trades if a team prefers as well.
  5. It did have something to do with your point. You are implying the Hader should get a free pass on his actions because he was a just dumb kid at the time.
  6. It isn't okay for someone to say the things that Hader said. Put yourself in the shoes of the minority or gay 17 year old "kids" that read his posts. Disgraceful and unacceptable.
  7. Trade talk starts around the 11 minute mark FYI
  8. We have lots of sources now and the Brewers are run much different than they were a number of years ago when we weren't unable to extract what we could extract today. So today we're number one in the league at that, and I think we'll be out there competing very strongly.
  9. I'm certainly half confident that this has a 50% chance of happening. It's a done deal. Mission: Accomplished
  10. I don't like targeting these two via trade. Merrifield isn't really much of an upgrade to what we have and Duffy is an inconsistent LHP/town drunk.
  11. I highly doubt that the Brewers plan to move Hader back to the rotation. Also you can't really compare the NBA to MLB, especially when talking playoff opportunities.
  12. FV's plan makes sense for a club in the midst of rebuilding but not for a contending team. So the Brewers are...
  13. Also, somehow the Rangers crap of a bullpen has the same WAR as the Brewers this year? This makes me wanna toss aside the WAR stat altogether. Pure garbage.
  14. My guess is that teams with Zero WAR starting pitching don't go too deep into the playoffs.
  15. If the Brewers plan to only make modest moves this trade deadline just like last year, I feel the Brewers will miss the playoffs yet again.
  16. I think we should pivot and go after Brian Dozier and Cole Hamels instead. I think we could land both those guys while holding onto Huira and Burnes.
  17. What do Brewer fans think it would take to a blockbuster trade with the Orioles landing us the following: SS Manny Machado LHP Zack Britton RHP Kevin Gausman That's 2 rentals in Machado and Britton and a controllable SP in Gausman who is ARB eligible for two more seasons. The Orioles could probably get more by trading each separate, if they are even willing to deal Gausman, but I thought those 3 players could fill a few of the Brewers needs in one blockbuster. Thinking Derek Johnson could work his magic on Gausman and allow him to finaly reach his Top of the Rotation potential. Thoughts?
  18. I agree with Monkeyman. I'd do the hypothetical trade for Thor.
  19. This is ridiculous. John Finkelstein writes an article for his site Metsmezmerizedonline.com about eight potential Mets GM candidates to replace Sandy Alderson. https://metsmerizedonline.com/2018/07/eight-potential-mets-gm-candidates.html/ Real journalist Jon Heyman mentions it in his INSIDE MLB NOTES article. https://fancredsports.com/articles/inside-baseball-mlb-notes-mike-trouts-mickey-man Non-journalist dude at "Brew Crew Ball" writes an "article" repeating this rumor that Stearns is a candidate for the Mets opening to drum up traffic for his blog. https://www.brewcrewball.com/2018/7/12/17565214/report-milwaukee-brewers-david-stearns-is-a-candidate-for-the-new-york-mets-gm-opening Brewerfan freaks out... http://forum.brewerfan.net/viewtopic.php?f=66&t=37131 Fun stuff.
  20. Also he's overrated. But honestly, I think the Nats, DBacks and Indians need to go all in this year.
  21. That doesn't underscore how super valuable a complete game was and is for an entire pitching staff, especially in a pennant race. Since a very average Solomon Torres was our closer that Fall, not having to rely on the bullpen for those wins was more than a luxury for that team where every single win was essential to end our playoff drought.
