  1. I also have faith in Stearns long term. However, I questioned his lack of trade deadline moves last season when the Brewers were sitting in 1st place at the ALL-STAR break(a rarity BTW). I'll wait until March 28th to further "question" Stearns plan for the 2018 season, but if the most recent quotes from him are at face value, I'm VERY concerned for Brewers status as likely playoff contenders for 2018. My point is that it sure seems that Stearns have been given "deity" status already and I don't think he's earned that yet.
  2. If Stearns plans on going into the season with the current roster (i.e. Miley) I think a thread needs to be started "ARE WE OVERRATING DAVID STEARNS?" https://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2018/03/brewers-trade-rumors-keon-broxton-neil-walker-free-agents.html From MLBTRADERUMORS: Nonetheless, Stearns plainly stated that he “[anticipates] that we go into the season with the current group we have.” The GM also indicated, without delving into specific names, that the Brewers’ rumored interest in some free agents was overstated this offseason, stating that there was a “higher percentage” than usual of rumors that made him “scratch [his] head a little bit and wonder where that came from.”
  3. I'd like to see Stearns trade Keon Broxton for a prospect(s) with a decent upside, even if it's someone still at the lower levels of the minors. Outside of two SP, I don't see the Brewers active roster needing a whole lot. I'd rather start re-stocking the farm, especially with the assets we lost in the Yelich deal.
  4. Arrieta to sign sometime this season
  5. A couple of decent Spring Training starts should not earn Wade Miley anything. If Wade Miley throws one frigging MLB pitch for the Brewers this year, I have a feeling this season is going to turn into a nightmare pretty quickly.
  6. I disagree with your assessment on Burnes. "The Dude Can Flat Out Pitch" I agree with this write up from Dynasty Guru: Corbin Burnes, Milwaukee Brewers, (Age: 23, Previous Rank: NR) Drafted in the 4th round of the 2016 draft by the Brewers, Burnes has flown onto the radar post draft. Burnes postted an impressive first line in pro ball of a 2.02 ERA 1.15 WHIP, .185 BAA and 41 strikeouts in 35.2 innings, giving up just one home run. He then followed that up with an even more impressive 1.76 ERA, 0.95 WHIP .200 BAA and 140 strikeouts in 145.2 innings between High-A and Double-A . The dude can flat out pitch. He pounds the zone and shows an ability to command his entire arsenal. He’s a guy to get now, before his stock rises higher. https://thedynastyguru.com/2018/02/26/dynasty-gurus-top-200-starting-pitchers-121-160/ I think the Brewers found their first ever 4th round GEM, even if he's not a Top of the Rotation unicorn!
  7. I don't disagree with your overall assessment of "trading high" on a player at peak value. But I'll make two points: 1. I think you are vastly underrating Knebel. He's a much better pitcher than Barnes or Williams will ever be, IMO. 2. If the Brewers were still rebuilding like the Phillies were when they traded Giles, this makes perfect sense to trade a top notch closer at peak value. I simply don't feel that the Brewers are on that stage of their rebuiild anymore and Stearns acquisitions of Yelich and Cain I think signal that as well.
  8. Knebel is simply not going to be traded this offseason. This is NOT fantasy baseball.
  9. I don't know how offensive an offer that is at this point to Lance Lynn. Chris Tillman just had to sign a 1 year/$3M (plus incentives) with the Orioles, and I honestly don't think Lynn is THAT much better of a pitcher.
  10. This article predicts we get none of the 3 top remaining SP Free Agents: https://www.mlbdailydish.com/2018/2/28/17063234/mlb-free-agency-starters-jake-arrieta-lance-lynn-alex-cobb If Brewers somehow miss out on both Arrieta AND Cobb, the Brewers 2018 season is in trouble from the start, IMO.
  11. I signed up for the Sling TV Blue package and am trying to watch Brewers/Dbacks Spring Training game today through Fox Sports Go in the Milwaukee Area. It says that the network is not available with my package. I was told that it WAS included with that Sling package. Any help? Much aprecciated.
  12. Cobb is only a year and a half younger than Arrieta. He has less of a track record and many more question marks IMO. Let's hope these made-up rumors about Cobb go away and the Brewers pony up the money to sign Jake. Did you know... The Milwaukee Brewers drafted Jake Arrieta in the 26th round of the 2005 MLB Draft out of Weatherford College in Texas? He did not sign. The Orioles drafted him in the 5th round two years later and signed him.
  13. I'm looking for big injury rebounds from RHP Phil Bickford and LHP Nathan Kirby. Both have talent to be in Brewers Top 10 prospects next year at this time, IMO.
  14. Thanks fellas. Next question: Does Sling TV "blackout" many Brewers games on Fox Sports Wisconsin if I live in the Milwaukee area? (New Berlin, BTW)
  15. Down Market Predictions... Jake Arrieta 4 years/96M= $24M per Alex Cobb 3 years/$39M= $13M per Let's go Brew Crew, can't you afford them BOTH???? Dreamy Rotation: Jake Arrieta Chase Anderson Alex Cobb Zach Davies Jhoulys Chacin Chacin is really only a #5 starter at best on a playoff caliber team and Jimmy Nelson's return would bump him to a #6 starter/depth. That rotation with our offense and Knebel/Hader in the back of the pen and we can give Cubs a run for their money! Not gonna happen but me likey.
  16. Nolan Jones is a fine prospect but he's only 19 and far from a sure thing. Sam Hentges is not in any Indians Top 10 prospect list. In fact, he's not in John Sickels Top 20 Indians prospects. In fact, he's not even listed in Prospect1500.com's Top 50 Indians prospects. I have no problem trading Domingo to "re-stock" the farm rather than getting an-MLB ready talent as a headliner, however, I think the Brewers could get a much better return than that. In fact, I really feel that it would behoove them to target a near-ready MLB pitching prospect with a higher ceiling than the mid-rotation types that are currently in the Brewers system (Burnes, Ortiz, Woodruff, etc.)
  17. I honestly wish it was. I could maybe see Tim Dillard pitch again. What a pleasure!
  18. So I just signed up for Sling Blue. Can anybody tell me where on the channel guide I can find Fox Sports Wisconsin? I can't seem to locate it. Any help would be much appreciated.
  19. Anyone know if the Brewers Fox games throughout the season are available through Sling TV subscription?
  20. I agree with Brewcrewdue80 that having the Pirates sell low on Glasnow within the division was a bit of a pipe dream, I suppose. I was just looking at it as a potential "prospect" buy low opportunity for the Brewers if indeed the Pirates have grown frustrated with Tyler's development at the MLB level. Glasnow represents the type of high ceiling starting pitching prospect the Brewers simply have not had in their system since perhaps Ben Sheets (or maybe Yovani). I'm a huge fan of Corbin Burnes pitchability, but he still only has the ceiling of a mid-rotation starter IMO. Same goes for Woodruff and Ortiz, etc. The Brewers picking Corey Ray one pick before Oakland nabbed A.J. Puk seems like it will come back to haunt them. If... A. Brewers don't draft/develop high ceiling pitchers B. Teams rarely trade pitching prospects with high, top of the rotation ceilings C. Brewers can't sign Free Agent TOR starters, but only mid-rotation types (i.e. Cobb, Lynn) Then I really am concerned with the Brewers chances of getting deep into the playoffs in the next 5 years, even if they get there. Trade deadline deals for established ACES like Greinke or Sabathia during a season that the Brewers seem playoff bound may be the only route to go it seems. Outside of that, I think Stearns has to somehow pull off the type of trade where he gives up "the farm" to land a controllable young TOR starter like Archer, Stroman, etc. And those trade opportunities are few and far between, IMO.
  21. What would it take for the Brewers to acquire him from the Pirates? The Pirates can afford to include Josh Harrison in a potential deal with us as well, and open up a spot at 2B for Adam Frazier. Tyler Glasnow has had control issues at the MLB level but if he ever figures it out...I think he could be an rare ACE. Take a look at his minor league numbers the last 3 seasons. http://www.milb.com/player/index.jsp?player_id=607192#/career/R/pitching/2018/ALL Add to that he's 24 and MLB-ready. I realize that this is the type of player that the now re-building Pirates aren't likely looking to trade, but he's the type of young player with a ceiling the Brewers desperately need. Burnes, Woodruff, Ortiz all profile more as mid-rotation type starters and none are guaranteed to be even that. I would trade Corey Ray, either Woodruff or Ortiz, and a low level prospect for Glasnow without hesitation.
  22. The Brewers missed the boat by not trading for Sonny Gray at last year's trade deadline, IMO. Now we get to start 2018 with a mediocre rotation at best. The Cubs #4 starter (Kyle Hendricks) is better than any pitcher in our rotation. (Even if we sign Cobb, btw) Not good.
  23. Wasn't my quote but it can't be overlooked that he's been injury prone during his short career. His alarmingly bad swinging-strike rate is even more of a concern to me, personally. And I realize that a lot of people will drink the kool-aid that he didn't use his best pitch last year, but even so, he does not have the arsenal, age or upside of a Top of the Rotation starter. Don't get me wrong, he's a fine mid-rotation starter if that is all the Brewers are looking for. I feel that they need more than that if they are serious about being contenders anytime soon. If our plan is too sign Cobb at a bargin rate and then trade for an Archer or a Stroman sometime this year, then I can get on board with that plan. Just think Cobb could disappoint and a 4 year contract will carry plenty of risk with his injury history.
