  1. I agree with this assessment of the Brewers day one day picks. Hard to sugar coat my disappointment. If Hiura doesn't have the arm to play on the left side of the infield. If he doesn't stay at 2B and absolutely rake, Brewers will regret this pick. Lutz could be a nice middle of the order hitter in time but I agree that I don't like his swing. Time to fix it I suppose. Lemons height worries me. Kids that tall almost always have issues repeating delivery and command issues. Would have preferred Sam Carlson who was still on the board. I don't get it.
  2. Yeah but other former top "safe" college 1B hitters include Yonder Alonso and Justin Smoak. Why spend a Top 10 pick on a player like that instead of gambling on a Justin Upton or Lance McCullers type ceilings, even if the floor is much lower? Steans can always find players like Travis Shaw to fill those "fringe" offensive starter type of roles, IMO.
  3. Don't really want either 1B Pavin Smith or LHPs David Peterson or DL Hall. Adam Hasely doesn't get me overly excited either.
  4. Last minute mocks: MLB.com http://m.mlb.com/news/article/235886620/mock-draft-for-first-round-of-2017-mlb-draft/ Brewers #9 pick Mayo: Jo Adell, OF, Ballard HS (Louisville, Ky.) - There's been a lot of talk about high school bats here, and Adell fits that description for sure, and they'd be interested in Beck should he get here. Florida right-hander Alex Faedo is in the mix as well, as is the oft-mentioned Haseley. Callis: Austin Beck, OF, North Davidson HS (Lexington, N.C.) - Milwaukee likes to collect athletic high school outfielders, and Beck and Kentucky prepster Jo Adell are exciting athletes. The Brewers also could look at prep left-handers D.L. Hall (Georgia) and Trevor Rogers (New Mexico) or collegians Haseley or Faedo. Baseball America 4.5 http://www.baseballamerica.com/draft/2017-mlb-mock-draft-4-5/#cX08pdTOslPc7PWs.97 Milwaukee was one of the most likely teams to make a deal, and that could get them off Jordon Adell, with whom they’ve been linked for some time. We’re sticking a different prep outfielder here this time. Pick: Austin Beck, of, North Davidson High, Lexington, N.C. Perfectgame.org https://www.perfectgame.org/Articles/View.aspx?article=13756 9. Milwaukee Brewers | Jordon Adell, of/rhp, Ballard HS (Kent.) Adell comes with some of the highest upside in the class, with plus (or better) tools dotting his scouting report in several areas. He has a chance to fit the class power-hitting right fielder with a plus arm archetype; though he's also got a legitimate future on the mound if necessary. Mymlbdraft.com http://www.mymlbdraft.com/MLB-Mock-Draft Draft#:9 Austin Beck Ht/Wt:5'11"/175 lbs Position: OF School: Lexington Fantasypros.com https://www.fantasypros.com/2017/06/2017-mlb-mock-draft-2/ 1.9 Milwaukee Brewers: Trevor Rogers, LHP, HS (NM) Jordon Adell has seems like the pick here for a while, but with a hefty price tag, Milwaukee will end up looking elsewhere to save a million bucks. They will be considering Austin Beck here as well, but expect one of the lefty high schoolers to cut a deal and end up in the Top 10.
  5. Wow, Gray and Gallo are the same two players I was infatuated with during those past drafts. And yes, I did smash things when the Brewers pasted on both players multiple times.(Gray twice- Jungmann and Bradley. Gallo thrice-Coulter, Roache, Haniger) And like yourself, I'm hung up on Bukauskas being a great pick for the Brewers. (although I'll admit that I'd gamble on Hunter Greene over him but that point will be moot) I would also be happy with an underslot deal with LHP high schooler Trevor Rogers if JB is not available.
  6. Yeah the lack of height on a Starting Pitcher doesn't bother me as much as it does most scouts. In fact, I trust pitchers under 6'0 feet more than over 6'6. JB Bukausas' slider is probably the best pitch of any pitcher in the draft (besides Hunter Greene's fastball I suppose). I agree with your Lance McCullers comp on him and also think he sticks as a starter.
  7. The age-old draft question: Take a safer pick closer to the Majors with a limited ceiling or take a riskier pick further from the Majors with a high ceiling? The answer is probably some of both types spread between their top picks. However, the Brewers need franchise type players in their system still, so I have no problem gambling on a player like Jordan Adell, despite drafting Ray and Clark the last two seasons. This guy could flame out or he could be Justin Upton. That's a gamble teams picking at #9 every year don't even get to make. Austin Beck also has a similar talent ceiling IMO. With that being said, the Brewers have had a MAJOR issue drafting starting pitchers that contribute at the big league level for the last 20+ years. If a pitcher like JB Bukauskas is there you have to consider him if you are the Brewers. Nothing is truly safe, but he certainly profiles as a mid-rotation starter, with a ceiling of a #2. To me that's a talent somewhere between Yovani Gallardo and Sonny Gray. Sign me up.
  8. Frankie Piliere on Twitter: Says he thinks Brewers prefer Haseley or Beck or Rogers, with Pratto still a possibility. Interesting.
  9. Interesting that in all three last minute Mock Drafts, Callis, Mayo (MLB.com) and Manual (BA) have RHP JB Bukauskas still available at pick No. 9. I think the Brewers will regret it if they pass on him. They also all predict that OF Jordan "Jo" Adell will be available at our selection as well. He'd be #2 of players that would be available on my draft board, behind Bukauskas. However, John Manual of Baseball America mentions that "Milwaukee was one of the most likely teams to make a deal". This is interesting and if true, leads me to believe that the Brewers could cut an underslot deal with a high school pitcher projected to go in the back of the 1st round and use the savings on later picks. My guess and preference would be LHP Trevor Rogers out of New Mexico. Lefties with his arm don't grow on trees and he emulates his idol, Randy Johnson. Should be fun.
  10. 1.9 Jo Adell Don't ever want to read a Tom Haudricourt JS headline reading "D.L. Going Back on the DL". Please spare us all. I will also predict that the Brewers actual pick will be none of these 3 choices.
  11. I may have missed it, but what is your close connection to David Peterson?
  12. The Brewers pick #9 overall in the MLB Draft this coming Monday, June 12th. Here's a quick history of #9 overall picks for the past 30 years... 2016: RHP Matt Manning, Tigers, High School 2015: OF Ian Happ, Cubs, College 2014: RHP Jeff Hoffman, Blue Jays, College 2013: OF Austin Meadows, Pirates, High School 2012: LHP Andrew Heaney, Marlins, College 2011: 3B/SS Javier Baez, Cubs, High School 2010: RHP Karsten Whitsen, Padres, High School 2009: RHP Jacob Turner, Tigers, High School 2008: RHP Aaron Crow, Nationals, College 2007: RHP Jarrod Parker, DBacks, High School 2006: 3B Bill Rowell, Orioles, High School 2005: RHP Michael Pelfrey, Mets, College 2004: SS Chris Nelson, Rockies, High School 2003: LHP John Danks, Rangers, High School 2002: LHP Jeff Francis, Rockies, College 2001: RHP Colt Griffin, Royals, High School 2000: RHP Mark Phillips, Padres, High School 1999: LHP Barry Zito, A's, College 1998: 3B Sean Burroughs, Padres, High School 1997: 3B Michael Cuddyer, Twins, High School 1996: OF Mark Kotsay, Marlins, College 1995: OF Geoff Jenkins, Brewers, College (USC) 1994: RHP CJ Nitkowski, Reds, College 1993: SS Mark Brunson, Tigers, High School 1992: OF Preston Wilson, Mets, High School 1991: OF Mark Smith, Orioles, College 1990: RHP Ron Walden, Dodgers, High School 1989: LHP Kyle Abbott, Angels, College 1988: SS Ty Griffin, Cubs, College 1987: RHP Kevin Appier, Royals, College Man this list was littered with complete busts! The Brewers last picked #9 overall 22 years ago and selected OF Geoff Jenkins out of USC, which is one of the better picks in the last 30 years. The A's popped Barry Zito #9 overall in 1999, one pick before the Brewers selected Ben Sheets. The Pitchers besides Zito were almost all busts or fringe Major Leaguers at best. Doesn't exactly instill any confidence that the Brewers are going to land their future ACE with this pick.
  13. I agree that Craig Counsell has really been a great manager to this point. I think his experience as a player (and a bench player) has really giving him a knack for setting lineups/matchups, giving days off when needed, and bullpen usage. Just this past home stand, I noticed that Villar and Thames both had big games the game after an off day.
  14. 1.9 Brewers select Jordon "Jo" Adell, OF, Ballard HS, Louisville, KY Make it 5 different picks in 5 posts. Dammit. Brewers should have lost a few more games last season. Adell is probably the biggest gamble in the 1st Rd. Gotta roll the dice! David Peterson has a very limited ceiling and is way too vanilla for a Top 10 pick. I think the Brewers could land a pitcher with more upside at their #34 overall supplemental pick.
  15. I have a feeling JB Bukauskas will be gone just before the Brewers pick (A's, Dbacks or Phillies likely) which will leave an OF (Adell, Beck, Haseley or Kendall) as the best player available for the Brew Crew. If you are drafting for the Brewers, do you take one of the OF or go for a pitcher like the Gators Alex Faedo? Or maybe roll the dice on a high school lefty like Trevor Rogers out of New Mexico?
  16. Agree that Brendan Rodgers would only be in a package for a G.Cole, S. Gray or C. Archer type pitcher. A more realistic trade if the Rockies were even interested in a pitcher like Guerra, would be: Rockies receive: RHP Junior Guerra Brewers receive: 3B/1B Ryan McMahon (Rockies #5 overall prospect) Would the Brewers even want to do such a deal? If the Brewers were in last place in the NL Central, maybe. However, since we are overachieving this season, I doubt they would be so quick to make such a deal. With the Brewers failure to draft and develop even back-end SP, a controllable (yet older) type SP like Guerra still holds a ton of value to the Brewers.
  17. I thought I read that the Brewers control Brinson another season if he stays in minor until around June 22nd? Is that a different reason or was that wrong?
  18. Well Scooter drove himself in 4 times so that should count for something! He should have just admitted that he was trying to hit a home run his last AB. I mean the entire crowd was cheering for him too, of course he was trying to. No shame in that. Especially since he delivered!
  19. Lol. I was the Producer and a Host of the show.
  20. The Brew Crew Review Episode #75 A Local TV show about the Brewers that aired about 100 episodes from 2004-2012. Here's a link to a almost complete episode from exactly 10 years ago, if you are interested in Brewers nostaglia. Features an minor league interview with the infamous Tim Dillard and a mock draft with Brewerfan.net's draft expert Patrick Ebert.
  21. Great ideas. I agree that the Brewers should be motivated right now to improve internally to see if they can stay in contention. That arbitrary Super Two date can't come soon enough! (June 22?)
  22. I don't think anyone is against making a run at a potential playoff berth. However, the Brewers are also only 4.5 games out of last place in the NL Central right now. There's about a month until the All-Star break. I wouldn't be surprised if the Brewers front office waits until about then to assess the Brewers position before making any type of meaningful moves, one way or the other.
  23. In honor of making MLB history with his rare accomplishment, here's an interview with Scooter in his first minor league season as a Brewers prospect in 2010...
