  1. Obligatory: “they’ll score 10 today because...baseball” comment
  2. When Vogelbach slapped a single against the shift, Smoak was surely at home going “why didn’t I think of that”?
  3. No one: brewers: first base should be a spot to throw a leftover utility infielder
  4. LOL at Jace Peterson playing 1B in a supposedly competitive season
  5. Taylor (and Mathias) should just do some dry swing lefty when CC walks by so they could actually play
  6. It’s ridiculous that Sogard plays almost every game against righties
  7. I doubt that was intentional. Very few teams play anything close to small ball these days. I wish the Brewers would try small ball again. I know statistics say otherwise, but the modern swing-for-the fences approach isn’t going to cut it for this team. Need to do something different. Plus 3TO baseball is waaaayyyy less interesting to watch
  8. Just by looking at OPS+, I’ll admit some of the signings weren’t exactly exciting, but this team would easily be in playoff contention if theirs players just played to expectations. While Sogard, Holt, avi, and Smoak aren’t great, they were all about average Hitters last year. For them to be so bad this year was not something most people predicted. And Narvaez was well above average, so it’s tough to blame this season on Stearns, who was financially constrained as well. And it’s even tougher to make any long term judgements about his job from this season
  9. Thank god Sogard is starting and not Urias. Fulmer is a righty after all
  10. Yet he hasn’t been good enough to come up while RF has been trash this year?
  11. The Rangers are listening in on Gallo. He’s be a great 1B/DH/OF next year. And he strikes out enough for Stearns to want him too
  12. For the love of god, why does 2 homers=benching? Just because Counsell lives vicariously through Sogard. Ugh
  13. Because swinging away has worked so well
  14. 2nd and 3rd with no outs and Huira is up. I would’ve bet a hundred dollars he strikes out There. Shocker
  15. Imagine how little they must think of him and Tyrone Taylor if they can’t get a shot while guys who’ve been hitting like trash and a couple utility infielders take up most of the CF/RF/DH ABs
  16. Tommy LaStella could make sense to upgrade the Sogard role of a LH platoon bat at 2B/3B. Impending free agent, and not a Qualifying Offer candidate either, so shouldn't cost too much. And on a half-joking note; Can we just sign the likes of Adam Frazier, Colin Moran and Gregory Polanco just so we don't have to face them in our annual Pirates sweep? I'd gladly take Moran or Frazier, plug them in at 3B for this team, and not look back. I personally hate the idea of never trading within the division. I don’t really see the appeal of Frazier, but Moran makes a lot of sense. They’ll need 2 corner IF bats and I hope one or both are LHB.
  17. Very true, but I’ll in general think using your best pitcher the LEAST is not good for trying to win
  18. The first one that immediately comes to mind is the last one in Pit, when he was warm and a lefty was up with a one-run lead in the 8th and a runner on with 2 outs. If that isn’t a spot to use your dominant LHP, I don’t know when is So the difference between too dumb to actually use him & being ok with his usage is one game? Our bullpen has lost four games in addition to the one that immediately comes to mind. They were... July 28: Hader pitched day before. 6-2 lead entering 7th before Suter/Knebel gave up 4 for the tie & Wahl gave up 2 for the loss in the 8th. Hader also ended up saving the next day's game. August 3: Up 4-2 entering the 7th before Burnes gave up the tying bomb to Abreu with Phelps picking up the loss next inning. August 4: Tied 2-2 entering 7th before Williams picked up the loss on another Abreu RBI. Hader also ended up saving the following game. August 18: Extra inning loss with Hader pitching a clean 10th. So in four of our bullpen's five losses Hader either pitched or picked up a save the following day, two saves in a row in the most recent case. Could Josh maybe have 10 or 11 innings now instead of 9? Sure, I guess. Would our record be any different? I don't think so. The Polanco homer game alone is an example of the Brewers having more wins if Hader is used. And the most important times are when to use your best reliever-it doesn’t have to be the 9th inning
  19. Because it is vital that Sogard gets in, for some reason. CC living vicariously through him is my guess
  20. [quote="sveumrules" Which games would you have used him in that the Brewers didn't? The first one that immediately comes to mind is the last one in Pit, when he was warm and a lefty was up with a one-run lead in the 8th and a runner on with 2 outs. If that isn’t a spot to use your dominant LHP, I don’t know when is
