  1. Profar really can play anywhere other than 1B/LF anymore. And he’s not good at those. That said, he made some swing changes that paid off and might not be a fluke. He could be a decent 1B when Hoskins is DH and LF when Yelich is DH and be the one last good hitter the team needs if they’re going with a cheap FA or internal options
  2. No way would Boston want a lefty outfielder. They already have a glut of those plus Yoshida at DH and Roman Anthony about MLB ready
  3. But, but, I’ve been told repeatedly that spending doesn’t = winning! Which is why so many teams in the bottom half of payroll spending keep winning World Series titles!!
  4. That’s not a bad idea, although it doesn’t help the lack of power. But if he does show last year was a fluke, you still have a utility guy and can turn to Boeve by then maybe. Or mix with Durbin/Dunn for a bit.
  5. I was thinking Tyler Black would be this year’s Jake Bauers. But with his defensive struggles at 1B, he looks to be a better fit as an OF-only. Maybe at this point Black would be of best use as a trade piece to an OF-needy team. To the rays for Brandon Lowe or to Miami for Jonah Bride+. Those 2 trades also bring back a backup 1B as well as needed hitter
  6. All options are gross but I’d take Polanco based on track record. But going with any of them as the everyday 3B? Yuck
  7. Yes just keep Hoskins for a bunch of reasons: -it’d be selling low after last year and he’s been good every other year -the team needs power -there is no other full time 1B on the roster (Black sucks at infield) -I am not confident the brewers would reinvest the $ saved -some of the 1B free agents are gone now
  8. Yes. A garbage hitter whose only quality was being the team’s only competent 1B was a waste of a DH, especially when you’re then stuck with Hoskins at DH. He did it 15 times during the season but in the playoffs was the worst one. Murphy said it was to allow Sanchez to PH for Bauers but I’d rather have Bauers and then some Sanchez at 1B than Hoskins
  9. His bat would fit so well. I it wish he didn’t let himself get so fat that he clogs DH how. I wouldn’t want to completely block DH for Hoskins and Yelich at the moment
  10. I think that is the best way as now with the current roster. Yeli and Hoskins should be the man DH’s. When Hoskins is DH, black can play 1B. When Yeli is DH, there are OF ABs available. And some more will be in the likely event of a Yelich and/or Mitchell IL trip
  11. Yes as of now he would be the main catcher in a couple years. But Boston would be in more desperate need of a catcher as soon as this year. And good luck getting a player as good as Casas without giving up anyone who might be a future starter.
  12. As a team that should be trying to get to the World Series, I would like to see sights set higher for 3B than the Moncada, Dunn/Durbin, Baty proposals. Unless they get a good bat in another spot, they should be looking for an actual hitter at 3B. Eugenio Suarez makes so much sense. Maybe one of the Josh’s from TEX.
  13. He likely won’t stay healthy long enough to hit 25 hrs in a season. He also might get the Huira treatment when teams take advantage of his inability to hit up in the zone
  14. Barry isn’t good offensively or defensively so he probably doesn’t need to be constantly mentioned as a target. I do like Josh Smith though. With Jung in front of him, he could be possibly available.
  15. You cannot rely on health and production from Yeli and Mitchell. Hoskins was down last year. Adames is gone. They need 1 bat and should be after 2 IMO. With one of those guys being a 3B and one of those bats having a good amount of power. Eugenio Suarez would be a similar bat to Adames but also get creative in finding some pop. Jonah Bride? Brandon Lowe?
  16. I don’t think there’s any way a team would take on that contract for free.
  17. I guess I assumed the Brewers stopped caring about 1B defense when they played Hoskins at 1B and DH’d a crappy hitting Jake Bauers. But I do hope they have a Tyler black type to allow for more pinch running/Defensive subbing for 1B if it’s Casas or Hoskins there. But I think you could make Hoskins and Casas fit in the roster (although unloading Hoskins would be nice but unlikely)with Hoskins at DH most days. They would have to be confident in Yeli playing LF most days, but he could also use days off. I also see him likely being on the IL, opening up DH at bats. And if Hoskins hits like last year, he doesn’t need to start vs a lot of RHP.
  18. I get wanting to keep Turang at 3B because Ortiz has a better arm. But I don’t get the whole “but he’s an elite 2B” narrative. Anyone who’d be a good SS would also be a very good 2B. By that logic, once you play 2B you can never move to SS because you’re good at 2B, you should stay there. And if you’re not a good 2B, you aren’t good enough to play SS
  19. The Brewers need power and have room at 1B with Hoskins DHing. Boston only has Connor Wong and no catching prospects arriving anytime soon. They also may want to move Devers off of 3B to 1B. They also could stand to be not so LHB-Heavy. Casas has lots of control left and is still cheap so it isn’t only a win-now or budget-busting move. seems like the start of a win-win trade
  20. We do need power. I just don’t see it coming from another guy best put in CF, even if one is sent back to CHI. I also wonder if they’ll wait to see Robert play better to establish value after his down season. Brandon Lowe, Jonah Bride, Eugenio Suarez, Profar would Be good power sources without having to “pay” for CF defense when it’s not something the team needs
  21. Durbin should be a Monastario replacement/ Turang platoon/mate, not handed an everyday job. That leaves an infield spot (likely 3B) to add to a lineup that needs help. I think there is a redundancy of guys who aren’t great hitters whose best value is playing good CF defense. Maybe sell high on Mitchell? But he’s one of the few above average hitters with pop. So trade Frelick, get a bat at 3B like Suarez, and either let Black play 1B/LF. Or get a 2nd bat as an upgrade to Black like Lamont Wade
  22. I thought maybe Wikyer Abreu might be sent to the White Sox to make room for a righty bat and alleviate their left handed heavy lineup, especially with Anthony being and OF and almost MLB ready. with Teel gone and the aforementioned LHB heavy lineup, plus rumors of Devers moving to 1B and Casas being offered to Seattle, maybe a Quero+ for Casas swap makes sense for both MIL and BOS now
  23. With so many prospects graduating recently, Baltimore’s top farm system is no longer that. So Mountcastle for prospects may be appealing for that reason. Plus it would create an opening for Mayo and save a bit of $ to go after a starting pitcher in the Manea/Flaherty level. or maybe a simple cheap acquisition of Ryan O’Hearn if they can’t get what they want for Mountcastle
  24. After getting O’Neil and Sanchez, I wonder if Baltimore would be open to trading Ryan Mountcastle to Milwaukee to improve 1B and DH Hoskins
