  1. As a previous poster in one of these quotes mentioned, we, like most fanbases, tend to value our prospects way higher than their likely outcome. Keston Hiura does not have the potential that Yoan Moncada has. Yes, Moncada is having a down year, but I'm pretty sure every high level exec would think his potential is higher. Also, Peralta is not Kopech, it's not an equal trade. Sale is a better pitcher, but the Mets are going to be looking for a higher price than what we'd be hoping for. Beat me to it. Moncada was a consensus top 3 prospect in baseball, and Kopech was a top 25 guy when they were traded. Hiura and Peralta don't compare.
  2. Ah yes, the ol' "move your gold glove outfielder to 1st base to make room for questionable minor league talent" play. Love that one!
  3. Hilarity directly correlated with the haul.
  4. Well, the Brewers have been said to have the second best offer. And most of us have speculated that DS made his original offer and stuck with it. If that's the case, then come on down, Manny.
  5. This is certainly disappointing, and playing against Machado so many times right away makes it that much worse. But, I do trust in Stearns to make the right moves, so there's that I guess.

  7. @AdamMcCalvy Following Following @AdamMcCalvy More The Orioles have a scout at Marlins Park tonight. Freddy Peralta is about to take the mound for Milwaukee. Edit - They can watch Freddy all they want, he's not going anywhere.
  8. Well, thats exactly it. Ortiz and Phillips, while good prospects, are certainly not our "top" prospects (ex. Hiura, Peralta, Burnes).
  9. Phillips and Ortiz, huh? Seems reasonable, all things considered.
  10. I don't think anyone here is okay with trading Hiura/Burnes/Peralta for Machado. Almost all talk has been about Woodruff headlining.
  11. Yes we all know he's a rental. Once again, hes an MVP level player at SS. We can't hold on to guys like Phillips/Santana/Broxton forever. If the Orioles covet one of them, and we can acquire Machado without giving up our best prospects, make the trade and don't look back. Huh? Our back and forth has been about you saying Woodruff, Phillips, Brown. My take was that's a massive overpay as Brown is thought of being from the same cut as Woodruff/Burnes and he's already doing it at AA. I said I'd be fine with Woodruff/Phillips because they're at spots of depth. I don't care if he's the greatest player that's ever played the game. You don't just give away anybody and everybody because you have depth. That's impulse driven idiocy at its finest. JackNicholson1974 proposed that Woodruff, Phillips, Brown trade. I said obviously I would do that if that is what the Orioles asked, because we would be acquiring a great player without giving up our best prospects. No one has suggested that Brown is just a throw-in, or we'll trade Phillips only due to depth, what the hell are you on about?
  12. @BNightengale The #Orioles have discussed potentially packaging reliever Zach Britton with Manny Machado to enhance the prospect package they”ll receive from #Dodgers or anyone else
  13. Yes we all know he's a rental. Once again, hes an MVP level player at SS. We can't hold on to guys like Phillips/Santana/Broxton forever. If the Orioles covet one of them, and we can acquire Machado without giving up our best prospects, make the trade and don't look back.
  14. I would call that a massive overpay. There's no way I'd part with 2 of Woodruff/Ortiz/Brown. Woodruff/Phillips would be difficult to part with but at least they're at positions of strength/depth so it's easier to swallow I'd do this deal in a heartbeat. No qualms about getting rid of Phillips because like you said, we have that OF depth. Reminder: We're talking about a borderline MVP-level player at arguably our biggest position of need. And we would be doing it without giving up one of our top 3 prospects.
  15. The bolded is just way too much for me. I'm not putting Arcia, Woodruff and Ortiz in a trade for 3 months of a player. Offer Broxton/Santana, Woodruff/Ortiz, and a lottery ticket. If they ask for more, I wouldn't do it.
  16. With the emergence of Peralta, I think I'd do this. When folks have been throwing out packages with two of our top guys and 3-5 total players I was out. But if it's just one guy I think I go for it, and that's coming from someone who's been fairly staunch on not giving up our controlled P prospects. I hear what you're saying, but as has already been discussed in this thread (40 man crunch), I would much rather deal in quantity than quality if possible.
  17. They might want them, but they're not getting them.
  18. I'm starting to get nervous.
  19. Also, for the record, I would absolutely be okay if Woodruff is the most valuable piece we trade away to rent Machado.
  20. Doesn't take a lot to connect the dots that Woodruff is the headliner in a potential Machado package. Yep, "Brewers planned a break heading into this week’s Triple-A All-Star break in part to manage Woodruff’s innings". Right.
  21. @Ken_Rosenthal #Dodgers, #Brewers most serious for #Orioles’ Machado, sources tell The Athletic. #Indians also in mix, though taking on rest of Machado’s $16M might be obstacle. Question remains: Will O’s ownership view offers practically or slow down process by asking for other players? Things could get very interesting, very fast
  22. Obviously everyone would love deGrom, but with what it would cost, and the current state of our roster, it hardly makes sense to make the move this year. Get a rental bat, and look into a rental SP, but no way am I giving up Hiura or even Peralta after what he's shown so far.
  23. Without a doubt, yes. If you can get Syndegaard through 2021 without giving up Hiura you make it happen.
  24. He has also made his way into "untouchable" territory in my mind. A second baseman that can hit like that..
  25. I really don't think we end up trading Hiura, but if we were going to, Thor would be the exact target Stearns would choose.
