  1. If I was the Rays, I would pass on it & it would be due to the inclusion of Colome. Assuming I'm starting a rebuild of the Rays, each high value piece is traded away individually so I can extract max value and hasten the rebuild. The only way I include multiple pieces (like Colome with a Archer or Odorizzi) at this time is if the return package is so great I would have to say yes. For example: if the Brewers were trying to get 2 of Colome/ Archer/ Odorizzi, the offer needs to go Phillips, Burnes, Woodruff AND 2 more lower minor pieces (1 position player & 1 more pitcher). I highly doubt the Brewers would do that, but to get Tampa to forego auctioning each player individually as the season progresses and other playoff contenders are looking for that extra push in their race, the Brewers would need to over pay significantly.
  2. Where can one listen to that clip?? I for one would love to take a listen...
  3. The NL stands ALONE in its rule requiring pitchers to still hit. Yes there are a couple pitchers that are still very good hitters but the vast majority are a danger to themselves and their team's offense when they go to the plate. Time to join the rest of the world & allow the DH in the NL..
  4. Excuse me, where did you get the idea that Bauer was a close to being a non-tender candidate? He is currently waiting for his arbitration hearing and both submitted figures are significantly under the MLBTR projection of $7.7MM (Bauer's side = $6.25MM, Tribe at $5.3MM)..
  5. Ironically, the best way to move Santana may be for the Twins to sign Darvish. Those chances took a serious hit when Chris Gimenez did not resign with the Twins & instead signed with Chicago's north siders...
  6. A) Bauer would cost more than Salazar to acquire. Your proposal is not even close. B) Cleveland has no need to bring back Jesus Aguilar. His being DFA'd by the Tribe was how the Brewers got him to begin with.
  7. Beyond JTR, the Marlins have Bryan Holiday, Austin Nola & Chad Wallach as catchers on their roster. I agree the fish prefer getting prospects & Mejia would be right in the Marlins wheelhouse.
  8. I believe that pitching coach was Charles Nagy. After Nagy departed the DBacks he came back to the Indians organization, dealt with Bauer in the minors, and then moved onto the major league staff for Anaheim...
  9. I would speculate that he would cost less then Clevinger, but cost more than Salazar in a deal.
  10. Just a side note on the Arizona situation - I believe the catcher that was really sounding off on Bauer was Miguel Montero. Wasn't he the same guy that spouted off to the media last season in the Cubs locker room about trying to catch certain Cubs pitchers and holding opposing base runners in check?? Sometimes you have to consider all aspects. Something the follies of youth will cause people to mature and realize they have to approach the situation differently moving forward. Does Bauer do things that could infuriate you as a fan? Yes. Case in point the drone incident during the 2016 playoffs. Does Bauer do things that could impress you as a fan? Yes. Does Bauer want the ball on every chance he can get? Yes. He would prefer being part of a 4 man rotation & not coming out of a game until @ 150 pitches. I tried locating a video clip on youtube for you (no luck), but Bauer was interviewed on the field after the Tribe won a then franchise record 14 games in a row in Toronto on 7/1/16. The interview won over many fans for Bauer. Bauer, the scheduled starter for the next game, came out of the pen & tossed 5+ IP in a 19 inning game to earn the victory in the 2-1 decision. To paraphrase off my memory: He was asked about how he felt and what might happen with the scheduled start the next day. Bauer having thrown 80+ pitches said he would do whatever was asked of him by Tito. If he could weigh in on the situation for who starts the next game, he would want the ball. He wants to pitch but would follow whatever was asked of him by the team. I recall some Tribe chat boards changing their tune on Bauer after that. Went from "who does this guy think he is" to "he's our guy, will back him to the end". We have all heard the mantra of 'Next Man Up' and appreciate the mindset of teamwork & togetherness. But every so often you need that person who voices the belief 'This is it. The opposition advances no further. I will stem this advance.'
  11. I think you have the beginnings of something there but a couple of issues. Mejia's prospect value is in the neighborhood of Brinson (possibly a little higher due to position value). So you suggest Mejia & a lottery ticket (of some sort) is worth only Santana & Luis Ortiz? Cleveland would likely say the return is too light. Also I don't think Ortiz would interest them & adding another CLE piece to Mejia (going to Marlins) pushes it further out of balance. Could the Marlins be sold on Mejia & 1 piece from MKE for JT? I think so (depending on that other piece). I realize ANY inclusion of Burnes or Woodruff would not work so let's look at other possibilities. Marlins get: Mejia & Jorge Lopez Indians get: Santana & Freddy Peralta Brewers get: JT Thoughts?
  12. As I have posted on other threads, I can see Francisco Mejia being a catcher for the Marlins. That said, is Mejia helping JT become a member of the Brewers or the Nationals as part of a 3 team deal..
  13. I will be forever convinced (unless HH19 & his source can shed light on this) that getting Susac was a reaction trade after Lucroy turned down the deal to Cleveland (& Mejia was not heading to Milwaukee at that time). Granted we all knew Will Smith was on the trade block & the Giants appeared to be a possible target for Smith, but the return package was still in the air. After Milwaukee was unable to get Mejia, Stearns needed to re-adjust trade targets resulting in Susac (& Phil Bickford) being in the Smith deal instead of something else...
  14. FPeralta & PTBNL is the counter, not the opening salvo. Ponce & Villar was the opening salvo from your side.
  15. I meant the other way around, oops. So your suggesting Kipnis + $10MM for Cody Ponce & Villar? Cleveland says no. Cleveland will not need a backfill on the infield if it moves Kipnis. It already has a handful of guys guys to go thru to fill 3B with JRam moving from 3B over to 2B (since Kipnis gone). So let's consider a counter. Kipnis + $10MM (over 2 seasons, $4 this year, $6 next season) for FPeralta & a PTBNL. For our discussion the PTBNL cannot be anyone from full season minor league ball last season or listed in the top 30 of the BA Prospect list. This would be a true lottery ticket.. Your thoughts?
  16. No it wasn't HH admitted in one of the threads it was the Yelich trade, that was the first domino to fall the first domino was a supposed "AL team" that is besides the point though I welcome HH, more beneficial than any beat writer the last week + Oh that's right ... I think he alluded to that deal falling through. Speculated that it was with the Yankees for Ellsbury, with the Brewers grabbing additional high-end prospects and salary relief. If that was the deal, I think I'm glad it didn't happen. I kind of like seeing that Ellsbury contract hanging around their fanbase's neck like an albatross Unless HH19 is able to shed a little more light on this one (if he can't, that's just the way it is) I am thinking the deal wasn't with the Yankees, but with Cleveland & regarding Kipnis (with the $30+MM he is owed over the next few seasons) along with a Salazar or Mejia. At this point (as I have posted before) I really think Mejia is going to end up in Miami. Now the question is will it be to help JT Realmuto get to Washington or get JT Realmuto to Milwaukee. That will be interesting to watch...
  17. I get your point but there is always the chance the news of Cain signing was going to break via other means.
  18. It would cost significantly more to get Clevinger than Salazar from Cleveland. Here is why. 1) If Cleveland does not move 1 of its 6 main starting pitchers (Kluber, Carrasco, Bauer, Salazar, Clevinger, Tomlin) & all are healthy, Clevinger has options remaining & can be stashed in Columbus for depth. Not possible for the others to get moved to the minors. As for stashing 1 in the bullpen, #7 starter Ryan Merritt (depth guy last 2 years) is out of options & already penciled for going there. 2) Cleveland & Milwaukee are similar market sizes. That said, Cleveland is already projected with a payroll near $135M for this 2018 season. Salazar is making a modest $5M in salary (& has 3 more yrs of control after 2018). Clevinger is still pre-arb (hence much cheaper) & has 4 years of control after 2018. That lesser pay & extra control is significant not only in 2018 but also beyond as other signed contracts increase in cost.
  19. Before the Marlins started dealing guys off, yes they had one of the weaker systems. The farm has been improving since the change in ownership. IIRC one of the guys the Marlins got for Stanton got ranked in the BA top 100 for 2018. The Marlins also got a solid haul for Ozuna (off the Cardinals) & i think 1 of those is in the top 100. Brinson was top 100 as well. Adding those players to their existing system & then adding in the acquisitions from the Brewers really helps to deepen an otherwise shallow pool.
  20. From the MLBTR live chat today https://www.jotcast.com/chat/mlbtr-live-chat-with-jason-martinez-january-31-2018-2968.html Steve 5:19 Brewers trade Domingo Santana and a prospect to Indians for Danny Salazar..fair trade? Jason Martinez 5:22 Depends on the prospect, I guess. I've been curious about corner OFs being connected to the Indians. Brantley is back. He'll be in LF. Chisenhall missed half the season, but had an .881 OPS and 12 HR. He's the RF. Santana might be an upgrade, but he also might not be. So why trade Salazar for him?
  21. Bruce Rondon please. Oh would be nice. IF Bruce Rondon actually wants to play. He was a major head case (out of control, intentionally throwing at opponents (I believe at least 1 was toward the head). I would stay away from him.. IMHO - if Verlander, VMart & Miggy can't get someone in line, forget about him..
  22. Just my 2 cents but I'd keep the CC avatar... He's won more in his career & done more for the Brewers. IF Yu signs in Milwaukee & on top of that puts the team on his back to the promised land, then yeah, consider making a change. Until then, stick w/ CC..
  23. I doubt Harper to Yankees. Machado more of a target for the Yanks, especially with Stanton & Judge already in the outfield. Really think Harper is trying to head west, get closer to his home in Las Vegas..
  24. Just my guess - A dome to minimize issues of cold/ bad weather when trying to warm-up & pitch at home... Very helpful in March, April, early May and again in September/ October..
  25. I recall on 1 of the podcasts the projections are still based on the STEAMER process which is much more conservative. The ZIPS projections will be folded in during spring training IIRC. While searching for other items I noticed the Sporting News website had an article (in free content) comparing the Cubs/ Cardinals/ Brewers position by position http://www.sportingnews.com/mlb/news/mlb-trade-rumors-2018-christian-yelich-lorenzo-cain-brewers-milwaukee-chicago-cubs-stlouis-cardinals/1tda598wxj94e12n9cg76y4665
