  1. I know people think he is too obscure to be selected, but scouts are omnipresent. There is no way I'd leave him unprotected. I agree. People were raving about him in Spring Training in 2015. You don't want to risk giving up an arms like that. Take a lesson from Cleeland a few years ago. A former top pitching prospect was recovering from TJ surgery. Although he had been a starter before, things were going rough. Kid was used as a reliever and he started to tear up winter ball. Tribe decided not to place prospect on 40 man. Rule 5 draft, he was taken in first few selections. Team taking him: Chicago Cubs Player: Hector Rondon You never have enough pitching/ good arms. Places can be found for them, even if part of a trade to get other items of need.
  2. Nothing quite like having signatures of a few major leaguers and one superstar (Lindor) to increase value of an object.. Bet Lindor was smiling his whole time in the Carolina league. Don't think he ever stops smiling..
  3. After giving up 4 guys (including 2 from system top 10) for Anderw Miller and 2 more lower level guys for Brandon Guyer, keeping the 4 others otherwise lost in the Lucroy deal will help the Tribe moving forward. "Little Cowboy" Josh Tomlin goes game 3 for the Tribe. If the Josh that pitched early in the season (or during final 2weeks of the season) shows up in Fenway, the BoSox could be in big trouble as Clay B takes the mound.
  4. Tribe takes game 1 and the maligned catching situation is a huge reason why. Perez showed himself to be a solid backstop. Who would have guessed that before the series began??? Kluber aka Klubot vs Price in game 2 should be a good match up. Rematch of opening day except this time Tribe has Guyer (very underrated pickup) to be in RF. IF Tribe wins game 2 to go up 2-0 before heading to Boston, I wonder how on edge that Boston fan base will be...
  5. Not like the deal looked bad in 2015. Estrada did well for Toronto and Lind was doing well/ as expected in his role for the Brewers. Time will tell if any of the 3 lottery tickets Lind was dealt for before 2016 turn into anything (by themselves or as part of another deal).
  6. A repeat of the 1954 series participants? I'd take it. This time Willie May won't be in CF to track down the long blast.. If anyone can break the Cleveland curse, its Tito!
  7. What did Mendoza ever do to tick off you guys?? He has one 'claim to fame' and your trying to rip that away from him. Jeez. At least Bob has some other things going for him... "Must be in the front row" "He missed the tag, he missed the tag!" "Just a bit outside" Mr. Belvedere Now how can I change this to blue color without a mouse?? Will need to edit later. -sent from iPad...
  8. Our best starter who hasn't been shut down? Sounds like the right choice to me. Good question on who starts. Why is a pitcher from Baltimore starting for the Crew??? If no rebuild there is no trade of Parra to the O's for Zach in late summer 2015 I would guess maybe Mike Fiers starts the game..
  9. The correct decision was made: dismantle and rebuild. 1st: no rebuild = no D Stearns 2nd: no players like Villar, Kyle Davies, Chase Anderson, etc... 3rd: A Carlos Gomez that was mediocre (Texas) or putrid (Houston) 4th: Lind (& others) at 1b instead of Carter 5th: putrid farm system with little help on the way vs current state. 6th: state of the Divison (Cubs asending, Pirates/ Cardinals remaining relevant) Ultimately, a rebuild was needed, Be it starting after 2014 season, mid way thru 2015 or starting right now. Getting it going was a good call.
  10. The stunning thing is the Reds EXTENDED THE CONTRACT of B. Price today for 2017 and option for 2018. HOW???
  11. Very true. Time zone for games is an under-rated factor in following the games/ teams/ players
  12. Huge news. Great for the Brewers. Interesting history with that group. For years the Kinston team was part of the Tribe affiliates. Got bought n moved and after a 1 or 2 years in Zebulon, Tribe moved over to Lynchburg in the Carolina league. Thought Zebulon was trying to move up levels to AA. Maybe they did and it didn't work out so ey re back to High A level. Regardless it's good news and better in the long run for the Brewers than being in the California High A league...
  13. Shocked n pleasantly surprised. I will take it...
  14. Eerily like the Indians tragedy. I don't think that was as late at night, but it was also in Florida at night when dark and going full speed. Boating at night is dangerous. Hopefully others can learn from this and it ultimately saves more lives than it costed. It was an evening accident in 93. Reason why they did not see the newly extended dock. Also had 1 survivor, Bobby Ojeda becasue he was known to slouch. otherwise his head would have slammed into the dock like the other two guys. All 3 in that boat were major league pitchers (Olin -tribe closer, Crews -reliever, Ojeda -starter
  15. I suspect there are changes coming, especially with the former Brevard County staff.. With DS coming in late last season, he probably used this year as an evaluation period of the existing structure and will now start to drive/ force changes where he sees/ believes there are problems or people in wrong spots..
  16. I doubt the Indians would look for Susac as part of a package. Mejia is looked upon as a possible piece for 3 years from now, not in 2017 or 2018.
  17. Same source listed 5 Tribe prospects in top 100 & another in the receiving consideration group. #23 Francisco Mejia - C #24 Bradley Zimmer - OF #37 Tristin McKensie - RHP #41 Bobby Bradley - 1B #76. Rob Kaminsky - LHP Consideration: Brady Aiken - LHP On top of that, it listed 2 of the Tribe prospects dealt for Andrew Miller at the deadline: #26 Clint Frazier & #62 Justus Sheffield.
  18. Shades of 1993 with Steve Olin and Tim Crews for me. Sad and shocking on many levels. On top of that, his girlfriend is pregnant with their first child. Now a child will not personally know it's father.. Very sad...
  19. AAA Toledo re-ups with Detroit thru 2018. Ugggg. Sorry that I am uNable to link story from MiLB.com site (using iPad)..
  20. Posted on minor league baseball official site this morning.. Detroit and Toledo have renewed their PDC thru 2018 season... Ugggggg.
  21. Absolutely player development is the #1 role of the minor league system. But do not discount the impact of winning/ losing in that process. I'm not suggesting it overrides individual player development but learning to overcome adversity, having success, building upon success are necessary items in the overall development process. On the positive side in 2016, the Brewer affiliates at AA and Low A had winning records. AAA was under .500 but those 3 levels were combined around .500. That's good. On the negative side, High A was historically bad & it dragged down the entire system record. Additionally only 1 affiliate made the playoffs. The playoffs are a great learning tool and when not a part of, development opportunities are lost (& unable to be regained).
  22. I agree with your overall thinking. It is also why I keep shaking my head over the PTBNL selection from Texas and struggle with who was selected. When you have a chance to get pitching, take it..
  23. It would be better to be in Carolina for High A then the California league. That said if the Crew ended up in the California League and somehow landed in Toledo for AAA, then that would be acceptable. IMHO California League for High A and PCL Colorado Springs for AAA is the worst possible outcome.
  24. But all MLB teams have only 4 full season affiliates.. 1 AAA, 1 AA, 1 high A and 1 Low A.
  25. Being in the Carolina League for High A is a great overall outcome..
