  1. While some like the moves the Brwers made at the deadline and think it's propelled into the top farm system ranking, not everyone shares that opinion. Over on Today's knuckleball, (posted 8/4/16, unable to link but easy to find if u go look for yourself) Jon Heyman graded all 30 teams and moves made at the deadline. Only 2 teams with full A grade are Rangers and Giants, mainly for getting the better in deals with the Brewers. Milwaukee graded at D- and 27th out of 30. Heyman is VERY CRITICAL of talents brought back in the deals. Guys many here are thinking propel the Crew to top farm ranking have the high potential to be major bust candidates, acquired just before their warts are fully exposed. IMHO the farm system is much better off then where it was just a few years ago. For every guy that performed well this season (Diaz, Hader), it's been offset by guys struggling (Nottingham, Lopez, Phillips) or graduating (Arcia- most likely). It will be very interesting to see where the various sources (BA, BP, Sickles, etc) put the system after the season is over. My guess is the Crew has a consensus top 8 system..
  2. You would hope it does. Developing talent is the main role of the minor league teams. Developing a culture of winning plays into that. Sadly, this season the full season affiliates are not doing well as a collective. 3 clubs around a .500 record and a train wreck (sub .380) in high A...
  3. Arcia is going nowhere. Don't be too fast on that. LET ME CLEAR: I am not demanding a trade of Arcia or suggesting it is the route DS should go. If a deal comes along that is for Arcia and it massively helps the organization, DS should consider it. Middle INF is an area where DS has brought in talent across many levels. Perhaps one of those is progressing to be even better then Arcia. He already has a solid contributor in place with Villar.
  4. True, you should get greater value for Villar than Scooter. That being said, why do you want to hold onto the lesser talent/ player with lesser value??
  5. How would it get nixed? He's played a game for them and passes the physicals needed. Just happened with the Padres and Marlins. Only 1 player from that deal was returned. Cashner pitched the Marlins to the win IIRC the other night (after shaving off the beard).
  6. My fingers are crossed for him (unless he is playing Cleveland)..
  7. Very possible to see that. Scooter's game does not translate well to a bench role so he would be gone, either via trade or non-tender..
  8. If Scooter brought back the equivalent package that Adam Lind did, Stearns would be a miracle worker.
  9. 2B needs an upgrade. Scooter is not the answer for the long term..
  10. Well that is depressing! I'll keep hope alive. Nothing wrong with hope. Just easier to be realistic. It's easier to expect some injuries will delay some prospects and derail others. Consider this: Baseball is a game of failure, how it is dealt with and overcome. A guy with .300 batting average is thought to be very good but it also means he fails 70% of the time. Prosepcts successfully getting thru the minors and making to the bigs, let alone having a monster impact is a lot less than 30% It's part of the reason why building a lot of depth thru the minors is important.. It enables a team to switch from plan A to plan B to plan C if necessary and hopefully not delay a process. DS needs another year plus of bringing in the talent. Right now I am seeing weakness in the pitching ranks. More is needed. A lot more. I believe DS has the ability to bring the pitching talent in. He just needs more time. And some luck. Every GM can use a little luck..
  11. 44 game hitting streak at the moment for Francisco Mejia. Not sure if he will play in game 2 of the double header tonight...
  12. 2018 to be seriously competitive?? That pitching is way too thin... Think 2019 at the earliest to chase a wild card for the full season (figure getting eliminated in mid to late September). Full push in 2020 is much more realistic..
  13. The Brewers need to get a lot more pitching into the pipeline. At this point we don't know what role (if any) Jorge Perez has going forward. The sooner the Crew gets out of Colorado Springs (& the PCL to a lesser degree), the better off the organization will be...
  14. Time will tell if this was a great day for the organization (or not). As an outsider & follower of another club and its affiliates, I think that Stearns has made some interesting moves. I whole heartedly agree that the farm system is much better now then it was in January 2015. That said, the talent still needs to develop and then produce at the major league level. Not every prospect will work out. Being on the top 100 listing is not a guarantee of success. As a fan, there is reason to be excited and hope for the rebuild....
  15. Thanks for ur thoughts Split.. I really wonder if Jeffress will struggle again being away from the Brewer organization. If he does struggle, I hope for his sanity & well being he finds his way back to Milwaukee for a 3rd tour...
  16. #joeygallo Can't be Gallo. Against the rules governing PTBNL... When recently drafted players are eligible has been hashed out over n over (yoyo's post below very good) What has not been posted in this thread is the impact of the 40 Man roster.. The PTBNL cannot be on the 40 man roster!!! Since Gallo got called up to the majors, he was placed on the 40. So like or dislike Gallo, forget about him in this trade (as The PTBNL). What it really means by waiting till after the season for the PTBNL is that one or more of the players on the list might be a September 2016 call up. If we see more Ranger prosepcts called up to the majors in September, scratch them off the watch list. BTW - Mejia with a 1st inning hit. Streak now at 43 games...
  17. Please note: Miller has more control remaining on his contract and a record of success in the post season. One other benefit of Miller is his moving into a dual closer role with Cody Allen. It should help to keep Allen's cost controlled as he continues thru the arbitration years.. The Tribe could also trade Miller off at a solid return next year (or the year after) if deemed necessary..
  18. "Free Wiley" Peralta is pitching lousy in AAA as well. Peralta and Jungmann are this year's version of Lohse and Garza from last year.. So sad, on both accounts..
  19. It will be much harder to rebuild with Lucroy & Braun (to a lesser degree) still on the roster thru the end of 2017 or longer.. You have to believe there would be reduced returns/ productivity as time moves forward. Lucroy needs to bring in multiple pieces as part of the rebuild. Braun (w/ contract, history & injuries) will be tougher to move but if someone was willing to trade for him, do it!!! We can agree that not all prospects make it, but the more talent coming thru the minors, the better chance you have some successful transistions from prospect to major league talent. There is also the chance if you 'hit' on multiple guys for a single position, you can use that depth to fill needs where the prospects you got did not pan out..
  20. Jim Thome hit .332/.441/.585 in AAA, so..... IIRC Thome played AAA for Charlie Manuel in Colorado Springs... At times you need to consider the other factors.. Cleveland was team stuck with Colorado Spings as its AAA affiliate until the Rockies came into the league, and wanted it for themselves..
  21. lucroy loosening in the dugout... Bat in hand... Wonder if he is actually going to see the plate today..
  22. Due to his playing history, I think JJ has a good thing going with Brewers. He probably wants to stay as long as the brews can keep him on the good deal for both sides. I wish JJ continued success moving forward..
  23. This. The Indians aren't going to say we're playing Yan Gomes over you. They know Gomes suck, if they didn't, they wouldn't have been in on Lucroy. Considering next season once Gomes back healthy.... So your suggesting that the pitchers might not have a preference on who they throw too? I wouldn't be surprised if 1 or 2 of the starting pitchers wanted Gomes as their personal guy. Why should any club box itself in when it doesn't need to? On those days when Gomes catches, Lucroy would most likely be the 1b. People like to point out how good Lucroy is with the bat, why sit him out of games when he is healthy? Splitting time at C would hopefully keep him fresher and better longer. Points for people outside Cleveland to consider: Napoli signed a 1 year deal. As a free agent for next season and hitting again, very likely outside of Cleveland price range (& unlikely getting a QO) Carlos Santana has an option for next year. At best he is a part time 1b in the field. He is splitting time at 1b to help keep Napoli fresh.
  24. I think I Just heard the same from Ken Rosenthall on MLB network. Heard the Olney and Rosenthsl items back to back. Seems reasonable since a demand to tear up the option would impact the value of things going to Brewers..
