  1. I thought I heard/ read something on a Tribe site that after last year, the Arizona Instructional league was folding up. Perhaps someone with Brewer contacts can confirm or refute that...
  2. Don't think you deal the prosepcts quite yet, probably not even during the off season. That said, IF THERE IS A CHANCE to get s possible TOR, DS needs to look at that very closely...
  3. Update time. As of end of 8/19/2016 Remember - these standings ONLY considers the FULL SEASON clubs in the minors (Low A thru AAA). Franchise W L Pct 1 Seattle Mariners 296 201 0.5956 2 New York Yankees 294 205 0.5892 3 Philadelphia Phillies 289 208 0.5815 4 Cleveland Indians 279 220 0.5591 5 Houston Astros 269 228 0.5412 6 Minnesota Twins 263 234 0.5292 7 Texas Rangers 260 238 0.5221 26 Atlanta Braves 225 270 0.4545 27 Milwaukee Brewers 218 273 0.4440 28 Los Angeles Angels 217 279 0.4375 29 Chicago White Sox 208 289 0.4185 30 Kansas City Royals 205 291 0.4133 Division Rivals 9 Pittsburgh Pirates 257 239 0.5181 15 Chicago Cubs 251 245 0.5060 18 St. Louis Cardinals 243 252 0.4909 21 Cincinnati Reds 239 257 0.4819
  4. It might be worth bringing in Oswaldo for that test alone. Better to find out about bigger problems earlier then at the last moment...
  5. 15 games? That seems really high. That's way more than the difference between the most valuable player in the league and a replacement level player. I have a hard time thinking I'd rather have Maddon than Mike Trout. No I was not suggesting Maddon over CC was equal to 15 games. From very worst manager to very best manager yes 15 games is a possible range (going -7 to 0 to +7) Consider the impacts of setting a lineup, the order, who is in or out, setting of roles, clubhouse impact (setting motivation, creating culture for people to succeed) handling of the pitching staff, when to use the pen or stay with starter, which reliever comes in, bunt vs not bunting, green light vs red on certain pitch counts or stealing while on the bases, to challenge or not challenge calls, arguing (or not) to support or defend his players.... The manager has his fingers and impact in many many things..
  6. Record would be better with Maddon but only a few games. IMHO Manager decisions do impact the games but with so many different areas and player execution being so important, the manager impact comes down to about 15 games as a plus/ minus. A great manager over an average manger during the season is about a +7 while a lousy manager takes away -7 from the average manager outcome.
  7. With the direction DS has been going (building from the middle of the field first, athletic multi-faceted players) a pitcher makes the most sense. I would even suggest that if the pitcher is a half step behind the 1B in value right now, the pitcher makes more sense as there are fall back options (bullpen) with the pitcher you do not get with the 1B talent. Young controlable pitching is the hardest thing to acquire. Grab as much as you can when you can. One other thing: in July/ early August, the Crew dealt away 4 players (2 pitchers and 2 position players). So far they have gotten back 6 and the PTBNL. Of those 6, 3 are position players and 3 are pitchers.. Grabbing a pitcher makes the most sense..
  8. Perhaps after the season DS can trade Scooter to LAA like he sent Lind to Seattle. I realize the Angels system is the weakest in baseball but the way DS and his group searches the lower minors, I am confident he could uncover a gem or two. Heck, the Angels have a history of trading away lower guys that pan out. The latest example: Mike Clevinger (now with Indians) for a struggling/ underperforming Vinnie Pestano. If the Angels don't want to deal for Scooter, perhaps 'Free Wily' Peralta or Matt Garza would interest them. Trading off those 3 guys will help free up 40 man roster space needed this off season..
  9. Prefer that new site be outside the PCL. Granted Colorado Springs is rough on pitchers but many other across that league are also very tough on the pitchers..
  10. Sad but expected. Astros in no hurry to move until the San Antonio possiblity gets figured out..
  11. Yep.. And that also means the International League. Adios to the hitter friendly Pacific Coast League Keep your fingers crossed this happens...
  12. I thought new deals couldn't be signed until the offseason. Meaning any announcement would be about extending a current affiliation. thats not true, the brewers announced affiliation with the sky sox on September 18th, 2014. It would make sense though for it to be just a renewel with the astros. For the minor leagues, the offseason starts in September.. Heck their post season is over before the major league regular season ends...
  13. Not quite. This is the last year of our contract and contracts with the cities are a minimum 2 years so they left after the 2014 season. This is our second year in that crap hole. Contracts are always in even numbers (2-4-6). Until last season is correct. Colorado was there starting in 93 season. Final season was 2014. A 22 year season run. They were there until last season
  14. Colorado had been with CS until last season. Cleveland had been asked to vacate CS as the Rockies were being formed/ started for the 93 season... Once a team has a 20+ yr run with an affiliate, you know the choice to move was not taken lightly..
  15. I believe there are some rules governing the Fall league on how many players can be sent and how far they can have advanced already. Think Lopez is not eligible due to his pitching in the majors last season and I think the organization can only send 1 player that reached AA level... Otherwise clubs would use this as a substitute for some players going out to winter ball...
  16. Nice listing. Thanks for putting it together (and making those important notations).
  17. Gallo was on the 25 man roster AT THE TIME OF THE TRADE. Hence, he is not eligible to be the PTBNL in the deal. The date of the trade itself (8/1/16) is an important marker for the rules. Its why the recent draftees are INELIGIBLE for the PTBNL list. Players on the 25 man roster on that date are not elgible to be PTBNL. PTBNL cannot be called up to the majors in the time between the trade and the determination of how that person is. Hence, anyone that is on the 40 man and gets a September call-up CANNOT be on the PTBNL listing.
  18. I think your still giving up too much for Puig.
  19. Not at first but with continued success, it should help...
  20. Also a great place for tracking the minor leagues... http://www.baseball-reference.com/register/affiliate.cgi?year=2016
  21. Update time. As of end of 8/5/2016 Remember - these standings ONLY considers the FULL SEASON clubs in the minors (Low A thru AAA). Again, only the top 12 teams have winning composite records... # Franchise W L Pct 1 New York Yankees 267 177 0.6014 2 Seattle Mariners 262 184 0.5874 3 Philadelphia Phillies 258 185 0.5824 4 Houston Astros 245 201 0.5493 5 Cleveland Indians 246 203 0.5479 6 Washington Nationals 242 204 0.5426 7 Minnesota Twins 237 208 0.5326 24 Baltimore Orioles 207 237 0.4662 25 Detroit Tigers 202 236 0.4612 26 Milwaukee Brewers 200 239 0.4556 27 Atlanta Braves 202 243 0.4539 29 Chicago White Sox 185 262 0.4139 30 Kansas City Royals 183 260 0.4131 Division Rivals 11 Pittsburgh Pirates 229 215 0.5158 14 Chicago Cubs 222 224 0.4978 15 St. Louis Cardinals 220 223 0.4966 22 Cincinnati Reds 208 236 0.4685 Interesting item of note: While Brevard County (High A for the Crew) is struggling with a .333 winning percentage, Dayton (the Low A team for the Reds) is performing even worse with a .306 winning percentage
  22. It will be an interesting dynamic looking at the selection of Ray & acquiring Brinson vs passing on the pitchers in the 1st round in the 2016 draft (until the Crew's 2nd selection).
  23. IF he can put together 2 solid starts, Matt Garza & money to Detroit for bag of balls and two lottery ticket types from the Detroit Low A club... Detroit is looking for warm bodies to try in the back end of their rotation...
  24. Thanks for adding the link (the limits of working on an iPad)... If you read the Giants analysis, you see the opinion on guys going to the Crew...
