  1. Crew should look to get Drew Storen (recent DFA) as a replacement for the bullpen guy/guys they deal off now. Drew might be able to then rebuild his value and become a trade chip for next season.. EDIT: so much for that idea. Storen dealt to the Mariners for Joaquin Benoit....
  2. It is my understanding, since the same ownership group owns the San Antonio AA team as well as Colorado Springs, that the current San Antonio team would move to Amarillo, then the Colorado Springs team moves to San Antonio. But it all hinges on San Antonio building a stadium....which is still in the talk stages. Thought I read somewhere that if the moves start taking place, Houston would depart Fresno for Round Rock. Yes, Fresno would be better than Colorado Springs but it's still in the PCL. The Brewers need to find a spot in the International League but many of those clubs have long standing relationships with their clubs (Toledo w/ Detroit, Columbus w/ Cleveland, Louisville w/ Cinci, etc)
  3. I will agree the Lucroy has trade value but his value was at its all time highest after the 2014 season. Near league MVP, pre injuries of 2015 and 3 years of contract control at a very manageable cost. I do agree that not moving Lucroy for the best trade package/ offer now is playing with fire..
  4. Can I ask why you prefer the lower ceiling players in these two spots? Kaminsky is likely a BOR starter and Clevinger is most likely a MOR type guy while Aiken has ace potential, Bradley has middle of the order power bat potential and Hillman is a "get him before he blows up" type prospect. We have more than enough Kaminsky and Clevinger types in this system already. Honestly, I don't see any major difference is between Zach Davies and those two and we got Davies for 3 months of Gerardo Parra, not 1.5 years of Jonathan Lucroy. I mean, Kaminsky got traded straight up for Brandon Moss just last year. I agree. Give me Aiken, Sheffield, Mckenzie, Mejia, Hillman. And the choice of SS Chang OR SS Krieger and we give em Lucroy, Jeffress and choice of Kyle Wren or Victor Roache. They get to keep Zimmer and Frazier. Done Deal. No deal. Tribe will not strip mine every top starting pitcher it has under the AA level for that package. Maybe if the names of Jorge Lopez and Josh Hader were used instead of Wren and Roache the phone is not slammed down..
  5. At the cost being discussed, I'd rather see Chapmen head to the Cubs instead of the Tribe... Way too much for a rental & the Tribe is not going to sign Chapmen to an extension..
  6. He was one of their few remaining pieces of value to bring in pieces for their rebuild. Why they settled for the package offered by the Yankee is the mystery..
  7. I suspect there is only a small handful of other teams in the majors that would see Scooter as an upgrade for their current situation at 2B.. It sure would help if Scotter could be functional at a few other positions then 2b and bench...
  8. I agree he is a buy low candidate, but I doubt the Brewers pursue him unless the plan is for him to rebound and then get traded again next year or the year after.. Given Miller's history and their current pitching needs, I would not be surprised if the Cardinals are making a call to the DBacks...
  9. Santander has been battling injuries for a couple seasons. That has caused the lack of 'rankings'. I recall seeing him with Lake County when they played in Appleton in 2013 & not being impressed. Happy he is finally healthy and able to play on a regular basis now. Btw, his is normally a RF.
  10. With all those items Braun is the toughest to deal away from that group, not from Brewers not wanting to deal him, but getting a return (any return). It would not surprise me if Braun is the last/ only remaining holdover on the MLB roster from the pre-Stearns era in 4 years...
  11. Browell4evr - our thoughts on Smith are not dis-similar. I was focusing on Smith as a trade chip alone in my post because I do not think the Tribe will put a package together to get both Lucroy AND Smith. Also, Smith fills a pair of bigger needs for the Tribe, namely an effective lefty on its staff & another arm able to help late in the game. For all their offensive problems this season, at least Yan Gomes & Roberto Perez bring defense to the catching position. Depending on the defensive measurable, they could be rated as nearly equal to/ equal to/ better than Lucroy on that side of the game.
  12. I'm curious which Tribe board u visited. Just like the Brewer boards, some are better (or worse) then others. For the record I basically ignore the Cleveland.com chat boards at this point.
  13. Thank u splitterpfj. I remember it boiled down to 2 names. Just can't keep Green/Gamel straight...
  14. I just went searching the site I hung out at (theclevelandfan.com). Sadly posts pre Sept 2013 are gone. One of the main guys from there in 2008 now has his own site (Indians Baseball Insider). I'll reach out to him and see if he can dig up the story link. I think he might have even broken the news with his contacts inside the Tribe.. Trust me when I say, as the news broke it was selection based off the Crew making the post season, Shapiro was getting roasted by the fan base.
  15. That was Internet legend (list of 4 names). In September of 2008 news broke in Cleveland that it was 2 names and selection was dictated by the Brewers making the post season or not.
  16. Maybe you stated it before and I missed it, why no interest in Francisco Mejia?? Last I heard it's becoming clear that Nottingham is destined to move away from C. What is Milwaukee looking to do Catching-wise in 2017/18/19??? It's highly unlikely any of the recent draftees would be ready to catch at the big league level before 2020.
  17. Yes that helps with Smith. If Chapman was also off the market and others like McGee & Abad are taken off market or get dealt, it would also help the value..
  18. Cleveland can pound sand if they don't give up Tristan McKenzie or Brady Aiken. Those two pitchers are big risks as it is. Multiple teams are after him. It's auction style bidding. Cleveland can stand pat and see how they do while the rest of the league makes additions. Not the point of my post here. Stearns should take the best deal he can get for Lucroy. IF it is not from Cleveland, it's not from Cleveland. Auction style bidding or not, I believe holding onto Lucroy to consider off season deals or deals next summer is a mistake for the rebuild and holds the Crew back.
  19. That seems crazy to me as I recall Brantley being more highly regarded than Bryson. The Indians passed on Lucroy, Lorenzo Cain, and Taylor Green for Brantley IIRC. Brantley must have been much higher after the 2008 season when Cleveland selected him. Lucroy was NOT part of the equation in the CC trade although many Tribe fans (myself included) wish he would have been. Cleveland was making its trade to get a young catcher by sending Casey Blake & $$$ to LA Dodgers for Carlos Santana. It was a 2 player PTBNL list. Cleveland choice if Breweres made the playoffs (Brantley) or Brewer pick (can never keep it straight Tyler Green or Mat Gamel). Thank god CC put the crew on his back and got you into the post-season...
  20. It could be argued that the cost of starting pitching has never been higher. Comparing a staff ace and reigning AL Cy Young award winner from 08 to Lucroy now is apples to oranges. yes, value will need to be paid to get value. I personally would put a multi player/ top 100 prospect package together to make a run at Lucroy. That said, I highly doubt Cleveland makes a deal for Lucroy as they will view it as costing too much over the long run. It's not the way that they operate. While the current starting rotation is well controlled, those controls would be ending by the time one or two of Aiken/ McKenzie/ Hillman/ others are about to arrive on the scene. They finally have some depth and high end talents in their system after spending years trying to trade for it. They have a core group of prospects that they will not deal. That still leaves them a pile of talent to go and make the smaller deal to fill in spots of need. Consider this: you need a car. Why get a BMW at a Rolls-Royce cost when you can get an Audi at an Audi cost or Nissan at a Nissan cost???
  21. There is the adage that to get something (of value), you have to give something (of value). I DO NOT disagree with that idea, but I do wonder about the value the Brewers (and their fans) are putting on talents like Will Smith and others. Please follow me on this: Starting Pitching is generally more valuable then relief pitching. That changes when bottom of the rotation starters or established closers are in the mix/ being considered. Drew Pomeranz, an all star this year with 2+ years of control remaining netted a single top 20 prospect (another starter.). Drew is looked upon as a middle of the rotation arm. It can be debated that either Boston preferred him to Jimmy Nelson (in a 1 for 1 deal) or that the Brewers wanted Espinoza plus for Nelson... Will Smith is a reliever with 3+ years of control remaining. He is not a closer but he is a solid/ good setup man. He has value and should bring back some value. That said, in reviewing this thread and the Lucroy trade thread, some of the trade suggestions makes me wonder- How is it people think Smith is worth multiple top 100 prospects or a top 100 and others by himself I could understand a single top 100 prospect or multiple players, none in top 100 that fill needs or the Brewers think are about to break out and take off. Again, value brings value. Asking for 'the moon' isn't a bad thing unless it alters your expectations. Once expectations get changed and become unrealistic, you end up disappointed or worse missing out on good opportunities needed to advance the rebuilding process.
  22. I know there are some Brewers fans that think either Lucroy brings in a Kings ransom so he doesn't get dealt. I would be in the opposite camp. A deal needs to made sending Lucroy to some team. I'm not suggesting taking pennies on the dollar but Lucroy's value was highest after the 2014 (near MVP) season. Yes, he is playing well now, but his value is not as high, as then just considering the amount of control that remains (1+ years now vs 3 years then). After the season, his value will be less than now. Lucroy is the best method to bring in starting pitching prospects... The most expensive item to acquire out on the market.. Find the best offer and take it while you still can!
  23. That is interesting and I would have went with Nelson over Pomeranz as Nelson has more team control left. I wonder if a Lucroy deal is on the table with the Red Sox and the Brewers are just waiting on the Rangers to find a third team or become serious with their offers. I actually believe the Brewers have given up on trying to get Gallo and the Rangers are just being reluctant on giving up any of their young pitching prospects. It could mean something else, both potentially bad for the Brewers & it's rebuilding process: 1) the Brewers wanted Espinoza plus for Nelson. A reflection of possibly over estimating the value of their own talent. 2) if it was a Boston choice straight up (Nelson or Pomeranz for Espinoza only) and they went with Pomeranz, it could signify that many pieces of Brewer talent is not highly regarded outside of Milwaukee (and its fan base).
  24. Eye black - I'm a little suprised by that Cleveland package as it would be easier for Cleveland to handle then the one I put out there yesterday (mejia, Sheffield, Hillman). it only takes away 1 pitching prospect and allow them to use Mejia in a deal to someone else for a LHRP...
  25. Everything I've read indicates that while the system may be tweaked from what they currently use, draft pick compensation will not disappear. It's possible, all kinds of things are possible, since the new CBA has to be worked out, but that's one thing I expect to remain, in one form or another. I think the big issues this time around will be punishments for PED use, potentially raising the tax on big payrolls, and whether or not to have an international draft. I think we are in agreement. There will be something but we are not sure how it will be and the chance it is status quo is about nill....
