  1. Some blasts from the past with some of the posters in this thread.
  2. The funny thing would be if this led to Oakland making a push for Cobb (I'm sure it won't).
  3. What evidence exists to indicate Perez is a much better hitter? His terrible walk rate of 4.4% in 2017 is actually better than his career rate of 3.7%. For his MLB career, he Ks five times as often as he walks. Even his career OBP in the minors is .305. He's a free-swinging hacker and a terrible offensive player. His only value is in his defensive versatility, but even with that he was hardly above replacement level last year.
  4. Any team that would be in position to pay up for a good closer and Santana is going to be a competitive team. Why would a competitive team be trading a TOR starter?
  5. He has 60 followers?
  6. The list of pitchers with a higher ceiling than Burnes who are also close to the big leagues is probably in single digits.
  7. This needs to be recognized. Bravo.
  8. The biggest difference is the offense. It was poor last year, and it looks to be at least good and perhaps great. I definitely expect this team to be over .500 even if they don't add any pitching. All the projection systems agree.
  9. The pitching looks better than it did at this time last year. No Peralta, no Guerra (probably), no Garza, no Torres, no Milone, no Feliz. There is decent depth in the rotation. I'd like them to add one more starter, but there's no reason they can't play above .500 if they don't add one. That would allow them to be in position to add a pitcher mid-season.
  10. The only similarities between Archer and Yelich is the amount of control and a below market contract. Archer is not young. He'd be under contract through his mid-thirties, while Yelich is under contract for the rest of his prime years. Not to mention pitchers are much more volatile in general. Archer would be a far bigger risk than Yelich was.
  11. Backup catchers are not difficult to acquire mid-season. The Brewers got Vogt for nothing last year.
  12. Have a strong feeling that number is way low.
  13. One of the biggest strengths of the 2016 Cubs was their defense. The Cubs's defense fell off a lot last year, and they haven't done anything to address it. I'm not saying they won't be great; they almost surely will. I'd be surprised if they win 100 games, and there's still plenty of room for the Brewers to grab the wildcard or even make the division interesting again like they did last year.
  14. The Cubs are the clear division favorite, but 110+ is pretty crazy. That's been done six times in MLB history and once this century. The fact that they share a division with two solid teams in the Cardinals and Brewers, and that the Dodgers and Nationals should also be very good, makes 110+ just about impossible.
  15. The Brewers are a decent team that can challenge for a wildcard right now. Cobb only makes them better and adds depth. He probably adds a couple wins to projections and makes them a wildcard favorite.
  16. If that KC deal was coupled with a Cobb signing, I think I'd be on board.
  17. Yep. Cobb is the way to go. I'd go as high as 4 years/70-75 million to get it done soon. That's not a crippling contract even if it doesn't work out. Arrieta/Boras can pound sand.
  18. It would be a bit disappointing and definitely surprising, but not the end of the world at all. It would probably increase the chance of adding a starting around the trade deadline if the team is playing well.
  19. Kemp's bat has really fallen off, but his defense is what makes him terrible. Kemp makes Braun look like Carl Crawford in his prime.
  20. Kemp has definitely been awful.
  21. Not pissing away a pick so he can opt out next year. . You aren't pissing the pick away if he ends up opting out. That would mean he was great and well worth a pick.
  22. The only way the Brewers would do it is if it benefited them, which means they'd get back money and/or assets in the form of players.
  23. This would be an amazing opportunity to get out of Braun's contract (very similar to Kemp's) one year earlier while also gaining assets. Brewers could just waive Kemp.
  24. Nobody is proposing Santana for Corbin straight up. It would either be Santana for Corbin+ or getting Corbin without including Santana.
