Ortiz is way better at SS than anyone on the Brewers' roster. Too important a position to bring in Jett. And Matt Arnold says Jett will get some reps at 3B, which would be a much better solution imo. Durbin hadn't played there either, and he did more than fine...

Is it fair to evaluate Siegler's chances to be a backup C based on a single inning with the Brewers. I get that he looked bad, but again, a single inning...

With the Bosox perhaps being out of the running, it seems like they should hold out for Sheehan or Tong. With the others, it would be important to also get a MLB-ready bat, someone with power. Curious Jake if you'd want to also look at potential hitters coming back in a Freddy trade?

Or even just Lawlar for Freddy might be a DBacks overpay? Kid has absolutely raked at AAA, and isn't he primarily a SS?

Totally agree. They have plenty of MLB or MLB-ready starters who are currently not projected for the rotation, including Ashby, Hall, possibly Zerpa, and Logan Henderson. Get an MLB or MLB-ready bat, plus a lower-level (A, A+) starter.

Interesting, Jason. And beyond the personal connection, let's get us some sluggers, be it from the Mets or elsewhere.

>>> By trading Oviedo to the Red Sox and Burrows to the Astros, the Pirates have diluted and softened the demand for Freddy Peralta in trades. Not so sure about that. Oviedo is not anywhere near the same level as Freddy, and if the Red Sox were serious about landing Freddy before, I doubt this acquisition dampens that one bit. As for Burrows, I'll grant you he's closer to Freddy than Oviedo, but if Houston was interested before, I'd say they still are. Burrows is not a big difference-maker imho. Neither pitcher is anything close to Freddy Peralta. But, good analysis of the Pirates' moves. They do seem to be making a statement. Maybe they'll be over .500 in 2026, though as you suggest, I doubt they'll challenge the Crew.

I didn't actually mean Yelich in the OF, but rather in the OF/DH rotation, in which he would almost exclusively play DH. With Soderstrom/Mitchell/Frelick/Chourio in the OF, when everyone's healthy, you could have one of them rotate to DH when Yelich needs a day off. And maybe they could give him more days off to preserve his back. And this rotation, again when everyone's healthy, would allow them to not need or use Bauers in the OF. In this scenario, Perkins is dealt, Badoo is the 5th OF, and Lockridge is in AAA.

I really like the idea of trading for Soderstrom. I agree the package offered in the piece is light, but with the Brewers SP surplus (for now anyway), some kind of Henderson/Pratt, or Patrick/Peña, package - I'd do it. Fills a huge hole. And even if Mitchell is healthy most of 2026, having a five-man rotation (Chourio-Frelick-Mitchell-Soderstrom-Yelich) between OF and DH is very do-able. You'd rest Mitchell and Yelich more often especially against tough LHPs, and of course it'd be a safeguard against injury. It also makes it easier to try to get something for Blake, or include him in a package in a possible Peralta/Megill deal. And then it would be easier to stomach just getting prospects for Freddy.

Great stuff, Jack. For me this has gone from a total head-scratcher to Priester II. Thanks for illuminating.

If it's Megill to the Mets or the Yanks, who would they target to improve the team in 2026?

What Role Will Manuel Margot Play in Milwaukee?
SandyTolan replied to Jason Wang's topic in Brewer Fanatic Front Page News
With his opt-outs, isn't there a decent chance he won't be on the team in a few weeks? Seems he has zero chance of making the 26-man roster, and would be free to opt out. So I'm guessing he won't play an inning with Milwaukee this year. -
Don't think they were thinking starter when they sent him down last year. It was because his velo dropped way down. Anyway, in 8 appearances at Nashville in 2024, he had only 8 2/3 IP, so I don't think starting was on anyone's mind...

I'm curious: Is there any evidence the Brewers are considering this, or is this pure speculation? If the Brewers had indicated they're stretching Hudson out, that would be more interesting. But I don't get that impression. Maybe I missed something, though?

Good stuff Jack! I especially like the dark horse Seigler's chances, perhaps to leapfrog Alfaro (and keep Quero in development) if Haase or (god forbid) Contreras have to spend time on the IL.

That Woody to the 60-day prediction kinda comes out of nowhere, and wasn't mentioned in the article narrative. Reasoning? There seems to be no indication of that possibility on the part of Woodruff or the Brewers so far.

What Are Brewers' Remaining Offseason Needs?
SandyTolan replied to Jason Wang's topic in Brewer Fanatic Front Page News
They still need a power IF bat, whether or not Durbin makes the 26-man roster. That to me is the most obvious glaring need on the team. -
Video: Garrett Mitchell Suffers Injury Setback
SandyTolan replied to Brandon Glick's topic in Brewer Fanatic Front Page News
Sorry, guys, I don't understand. He was in the lineup for two straight days after the alleged hamstring injury. How could he be dealing with a hamstring and still be in the lineup? Seems this was a false alarm, no? -
Hey just sign Montgomery, and JD Davis while you're at it, and call it an offseason.
