  1. You know, if the Frelick IF experiment is real (despite Jack's take), then he could be counted as both an IF and OF and that would possibly give them the flexibility to carry three catchers. C Contreras, Sánchez, Haase IF Hoskins, Bauers, Monasterio, Adames, Ortiz, (Frelick) OF: Frelick, Wiemer, Yelich, Mitchell, Chourio Turang and Dunn start in AAA. Then one comes up when they try to sneak Haase through waivers to Nashville. Or maybe Sánchez starts on the DL and Turang sticks in Milwaukee.
  2. Yeah, I get that, for sure. But they hired two new guys recently. And much more important, imho it's just not about the guys running the site. It's also about the community. Why not rejoin the conversation? You are missed over there. No reason we can't be part of both sites.
  3. Hi Eddie! Are you gone from BCB for good? We miss you over there. (And I promise not to stalk you!!! :) )
  4. Yeah but it smacks of the kind of trade that would come from someone who doesn't really know (or like) the team he's writing about. It's just terribly misinformed. I mean, I'd like Soto and Tatis for Colin Rea and Julio Teheran, but I'm not going to actually propose that trade. Why propose something that has zero chance of happening, unless it's for clickbait? Seriously undermines the credibility of the writer.
  5. I think the Brewers will regret trading Hiura, should they choose to do so. I see Nelson Cruz written all over this.
  6. Honestly I have to agree with critics of this trade, just focusing on the merits. It would be folly to trade Chourio, who will likely make the Brewers roster in 2024, and just OPS'd 1.165 in July in AA. Straight up for Kim, I wouldn't do that. But adding more? That makes zero sense, and the chances the Brewers would do that are zero.
  7. What if we think outside the box a little bit, and keep Urias at 3B, and get a clear upgrade at 2B? I have someone in mind. He is a buy-low candidate who has mashed throughout the minors and in one MLB season. He struggled after that but seemed to find something last year. A bit challenged defensively, but with the shift ban he might benefit from "regular" throws to 1B. He could solidify the position and become a middle-of-the-order masher, and as pre-arb he would be an almost-free upgrade. What would it take for the Brewers to get Keston Hiura? Oh wait...
  8. This would displace Rowdy, obviously, but maybe he would be part (albeit a small part) of the return to KC.
  9. Now that Carlos Carrasco has signed with SF, it looks like Brandon Crawford will play 3B, maybe platooning with JD Davis or David Villar. I'd much rather have either of those guys if the price isn't too high. Davis would be a great get, and at 9 years younger I think he'd more reliably rake for the Brewers.
  10. I definitely don't believe that. I say ease the young fellas in. Get another bat in RF and one at 3B - Frelick and Mitchell and share CF (even though both are lefty), get a Varsho type in RF and a Justin Turner type at 3B and then they rock & roll. Yelich/Adames/Winker/Contreras/Varsho/Turner/Tellez/Urias/Mitchell-Frelick. That team could go really far.
  11. If they could ship out Taylor and add a big OF bat, even on a one- or two-year deal, then they could alternate between Mitchell and Frelick in CF (too bad they're both LHHs), and still hopefully have enough to bring in another big bat at 3B or 2B. That would be pretty incredible.
  12. Also, Turang's K rate during his torrid last six weeks: 18 percent. BB rate: 14 percent.

  14. Since mid-June, Turang has been on fire - .326/.441/.465/.886. That is 6+ weeks of sustained production, 152 PAs. I think he has figured something out and is proving his critics were a bit premature in their "MLB utility only" evaluations. I agree it would be giving up on him way too soon - would be a huge mistake to move him for a rental. Much as I'd like Bell - would love to have Bell - not for Turang, unless of course they throw in Soto.

  16. I agree a staggered trading strategy makes the most sense. I would not trade Hader now - he'll need to build his trade value after his recent meltdowns, and let's face it the Brewers need Good Hader if they're going to go anywhere in the postseason. So I'd trade him this winter with one year left. That may not bring max value, but pretty close. Then I'd trade Woodruff in winter 23/24, with one year left before free agency. Same with Burnes/Adamaes, a year later ie 24/25. Of course if someone comes along with incredible offers for any of these guys - offers that would include MLB ready players - they could elect to trade these guys sooner. But bottom line, this should be a reload rather than rebuild strategy.
  17. Reynolds's oblique strain pretty much slams the door on any trade possibilities before the deadline. https://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2022/07/pirates-place-bryan-reynolds-on-il-with-oblique-strain.html From the article: ...the Pirates have maintained sky-high asking prices in any trade talks, which is why no trade has come together thus far. That hasn’t stopped teams from trying, however, with reporting from earlier today indicating the club has rejected offers on Reynolds, as well as closer David Bednar. It’s always seemed like the Pirates would hang onto him, but this IL placement effectively closes the door on whatever chance there was.
  18. Yeah, I think Wong and Peterson will both be gone next year, unless Jace wants to be back and can't find a decent multi-year deal as a 32-year-old. But I suspect the super-utility guy will be Turang or maybe Mathias, with the Brewers trading for a 2B or 3B-man, and Urias sliding over to 2B or staying at 3B. (There's not much on offer for 2023 in the way of FAs at either position.)
  19. Robocaller's post may be aging quite well, for unfortunate reasons: Small may be called up to replace the injured Freddy Peralta. We may be seeing what Small's got in store very soon.
  20. What about promoting from within? Before the Brewers let go of massive farm talent, for a Reynolds or Mullins e.g., how about promoting Joey Wiemer and his .994 OPS and 11 HRs NOW to Nashvile, and giving him a month. If he rakes there too, he could come up to MLB and get serious playing time in CF. The Brewers would have a full month to evaluate whether Joey is the boost we need. If not, he can finish his development in AAA and the Brewers could trade for a different CF, maybe a rental, or a Ramon Laureano as someone recently suggested. Provided Joey continued to hit well in Nashville, it'd be worth giving him an MLB CF tryout in July. This way they'd also give Lo Cain and TT another month to bring up their OPS closer to ,750. And if they do, no need to promote Wiemer, or trade for another CF.
  21. I'm going with Jon Gray, sealing Houser's (and maybe Lauer's) move to the pen
  22. The most amazing thing about the Escobar deal is how little the Brewers gave up. Many of us (me included) were willing to consider giving up significant prospect capital to land a Bryant, Mancini, Gallo. But Cooper Hummel and Alberto Ciprion for a guy that immediately becomes the Brewers' top slugger, can slot him right into the 5 hole and play him all around the diamond, including according to Stearns 1B (even though he has no MLB experience there)? This is amazing. I think they're done getting hitters. Unless they deal for another C and release Manny, but I think that'd be ill-advised for team dynamics. Maybe another reliever or a Jon Gray type, allowing Houser to be that reliever upgrade...
  23. >>>>>The PTBNL list included Brantley, Lucroy, and Taylor Green (who was one of our highest ranked prospects at the time). If we would have missed the playoffs, my understanding is that they would have sent Green to Cleveland (the Brewers' choice). Because we won the Wild Card, the Indians got to pick and chose Brantley.<<<<<< Angel Salome, then a more highly-regarded catching prospect than Lucroy, was on that list, and not Lucroy, if I recall correctly.
  24. Brewcrewin07 said: I actually hate this time of year...you hear about the Brewers inquiring about Donaldson, you hear them inquiring about Story, or other big names at the deadline, and they end up making some puddle jumper moves instead. Mostly because I assume they consider the price "cost prohibitive". Listen, in a year like this when you have the pitching you have, and the window you have, nothing should be too prohibitive. It's not like you'll have to give up one of the 3 pitchers, or any other untouchables in a deal. It just comes down to them being gun shy. But going all in on a big-name player isn't always the best move. Think about what they got out of Jordan Lyles and Drew Pomeranz, who flew well under the radar. It didn't really cost the team much and they were huge upgrades.
