  1. Which is fine as long as Urias is the same for us. I understand why we made the trade but we desperately need Urias to be an above average shortstop.
  2. Even when Yelich and Hiura hit we are still a below average offense. Too many AAAA guys in this lineup every day.
  3. This is just not a good team. Hopefully Stearns can regroup and do better next offseason because his work putting together this roster was underwhelming.
  4. No reason why Burnes can't be a top of the rotation starter. Its up to the coaching staff to get it out of him.
  5. Stearns has proven to be a great GM but he had what should be considered an awful last offseason.
  6. Nice 4 pitch walk to Ervin. Anderson is terrible.
  7. I would much rather let Burnes start and see what we have with him that watch a vet like Anderson with no upside. At least with Corbin you can dream on the upside.
  8. I remember a few years ago I mentioned if he finds a way to hit just a little he would be a great asset to a team. He has consistently held an OBP .100 points higher than his AVG...that’s incredible. Even a .250 average gives him a .350 OBP which is quite decent in today’s game. Add in his speed and you have a real sweet #1 or #2 hitter. Always liked him since they drafted him...hope he makes us look dumb to be honest. I just hope that Urias pans out because we sure could use a high OBP bat like Grisham who is really starting to show power as well.
  9. Its not a matter of effort with Hiura he just will never be even decent defensively. Luckily he can hit and we will probably have the DH going forward so he does still have value.
  10. Urias better be good because Grisham looks like a potential star.
  11. I don't know if teams will be willing to make big deals at the deadline this season but if they are we should look to move Hader. This team needs way more talent and cashing in on Hader is the way to get it. We all love the guy but what good is a reliever on a team with this bad of a lineup.
  12. Hiura reminds me so much of Weeks. Elite bat speed, tons of strikeouts and awful defense.
  13. You just hate to put a guy as young as Hiura at DH but what other choice do we have. Let Urias have second base when he comes up and just accept Arcia as the every day shortstop. Its not like we have a legit bat to DH anyway.
  14. It wouldn't be so bad if we at least had the power to go along with all the strikeouts but we just can't hit at all.
  15. I don't know if any big deals will be made at the deadline but I think this team needs to cash in on Hader.
  16. This team is not only bad but not very interesting to watch.
  17. If the scouting director is doing such a fine job why do we have the worst farm system in baseball with not one big time position player prospect. When Turang who profiles about as well as Arcia with the bat is considered the best prospect in the system it says that we have done a terrible job in the draft as well as our Latin signings. Stearns has made some fabulous trades including trading what looks like mostly filler for Yelich yet our drafting leaves a lot to be desired and I know that Stearns is not the one picking these players. I think we are too focused on up the middle athletes and not enough on drafting good hitters. If we had done a better job drafting and developing position players we wouldn't have to sign the likes of Smoak, Sogard, and Gyorko to handle the offensive corner positions. Montgomery should be put back in charge of the draft with his solid track record with Arizona and Tod Johnson needs to be demoted.
  18. I don't care if the season is 60 games or 600 games long its not going to turn the likes of Smoak, Sogard, and Morrison into good hitters. Ownership obviously gave Stearns a mandate to lower payroll and in turn he went dumpster diving to fill out the roster. This wasn't a good offensive team last year and its significantly worse this season.
  19. Other than Hiura and possibly Grisham this organization hasn't produced any position players of note in years. I was happy when Montgomery was doing the drafting and he hit on some pitchers like Woodruff and hopefully Burnes but we haven't hit on any bats. Tod Johnson has not impressed me at all so far though it is still early. We really should have kept Montgomery in charge of the draft since he did a good job drafting in Arizona and for the limited time that he led our drafts. If we actually had some good position players in our system we wouldn't have to sign guys like Smoak and Sogard to man first and third base. Attanasio was obviously intent on cutting payroll last offseason which didn't leave Stearns with much money to spend but the guys he did sign are all quite underwhelming. If we can't produce better players than Smoak what are we doing in regards to drafting and developing players. We can sugarcoat things all we want and say that the system is underrated but pretty much every objective source has our system as the worst in the game. If we are going to continue to compete on a yearly basis we need to produce our own talent. It just might be time to hire some better scouts because the ones we have are just not doing a good enough job.
  20. This is the result of years of awful drafts on the position player side. Besides Hiura we haven't drafted an impact bat since probably Braun and that was 2005.
