If the Brewers had done a better job drafting position players the last few years they wouldn't be stuck signing guys like Sogard and Smoak. Besides Hiura this system has produced little to nothing offensively. We have done a nice job drafting pitchers of late but the bats are totally lacking in our system.

I would say that buying low on guys coming off injuries or bad seasons is a fine strategy as a way to supplement a roster but this is getting ridiculous. We are going to be counting on way too many questionable players next season. Sure some will work out but I doubt that nearly enough will and this just looks like a .500 or so team with a chance to be a 75 win team if a bunch of these guys coming off bad seasons don't bounce back.

Nice, who is your source? Look at what we have done this offseason. Nearly every move we have made has brought in cheaper talent. I am not saying that things can't work out and Stearns has done solid work every year he has been our GM but this team has a ton of question marks right now. If you work hard enough you can spin any individual move that we have made as one with the potential to work out. If this guy plays like he did two or three years ago or this one does the same we are ok. With that said we are banking on a lot of questionable talent like Sogard and Gyorko while losing guys like Grandal and Moustakas who have been good players for a long time. I think counting on a Sogard/Gyorko platoon is complete insanity. You have to be a complete optimist to spin this offseason as being positive for this team. Hopefully things will work out but I just can't get excited by moves like this which have pretty much dominated our offseason.

Its pretty clear by now that Stearns was told to drastically cut the payroll and he has done just that. Maybe things will work out but its pretty hard to get excited by what has transpired this offseason.

We will probably add someone but don't expect it to be an impact guy. Just remember we were in the less than exciting Starlin Castro sweepstakes so that should tell you what level of guy we are involved with. The best case scenario is probably Todd Frazier with the other option of just going with the garbage we have in house at the position. No way this team is ever signing Donaldson or trading for Arenado so be prepared to be underwhelmed. Overall this has been a less than exciting offseason and I just don't see that changing.

Everything you've said here is an opinion. You list no facts backing up your absolutist statements here. There is no way you know that other clubs don't view Hader like we do, nor that the White Sox wouldn't deal the #21 prospect in baseball straight up for the best RP in baseball. If your cost controlled elite RP is not bringing back even 1 top 20 prospect (let alone straight up for one) why would you ever consider trading him? That is the point we have gotten to in this thread. We DON'T have to trade Hader. He can still come back and be the anchor for our bullpen that he always has been. Why would we trade that for a middling prospect return, especially at a point when we have a small window to compete? I guess what I am saying is if you have been following this thread, legitimate national reporters have stated Stearns asking price for Hader is rightfully huge. If that asking price is not met then Hader will not be traded, as he is under cheap control for many years. I highly doubt anyone in this thread, let alone the country, believes Hader with 4 years of control is worth less than at least 1 highly regarded prospect. If you want, check the trade comparables, they would all agree with that statement. Will he get traded for a Gleyber Torres? Almost certainly not. But even that trade is more likely than a trade in which we send Hader to a team for some low ranked throw-away prospects. You would think we were looking to trade a guy like Taylor Williams with some of these responses. Hader is the best reliever in baseball with 4 yes 4 years of control remaining. Either we trade him for a huge package that will help us this year and the years to come or we just keep him. I am absolutely shocked that some people think we should just trade him for a bunch of scrubs or a few completely flawed guys like Andujar. We are not a feeder team for the yankees and dodgers despite what the national media believes. Unless we are getting a cant miss guy like Gavin Lux I have no interest in trading Hader.

I don’t understand what this venomous hate for Miguel Andujar is. Have you guys even looked at what he slashed at AA/AAA and his rookie year? Keston Hiura isn’t exactly a defensive savant himself. If Travis Shaw passed as a hybrid 3b/2b I have enough faith in counsell and Stearns to mask him enough on defense to make that bat play. I want more good pieces than Andujar, but he is not a garbage player. The blatant disregard for defense from people is astonishing. Andujar is the worst defensive third baseman in the game and his bat is nothing special. He is not even close to good enough to highlight a package for the best reliever in the game that comes with 4 years of control. Why are people so eager to trade Hader for these subpar packages that are rumored. If he had one year of control and we weren’t planning on competing I could see it but with 4 years left we shouldn’t move him unless we are overwhelmed and none of these rumors qualify as anything that we should even consider.

When the off-season started I was in favor of moving Hader thinking we were going to get a package that was impossible to turn down. I had visions of star prospects like Lux leading an incredible package that would make us better for years. Now after hearing these Yankees rumors I just want to keep Hader. A package headlined by a DH masquerading as a third baseman like Andujar infuriates me and should bother every Brewers fan. Unless the packages are far more enticing than the current rumors suggest we would be much better off keeping the best reliever in baseball. Hader has 4 years of control so unless someone overwhelms us we would be foolish to even consider a deal like this.

I would much rather keep Hader than trade him for a package highlighted by Andujar who is not only the worst defensive third baseman in the game but possibly the worst defender at any position. I just don't see any way we matchup with them unless Torres is coming back. We need extreme quality coming back in any Hader deal and not a huge package of mediocrity. Has anyone thought of what kind of hit this teams chances take without Hader on it. We have a rotation full of 5 inning guys and have to have a super bullpen to be a playoff team. Taking Hader off this roster and replacing him with a butcher at third base plus some mediocre prospects means we are no longer contenders. If we are going down that road we may as well reboot and move Yelich as well. Either do everything we can to win it all with Yelich on the team which means either keeping Hader in the fold or getting real difference makers for both now and the next few seasons ahead or just start over and deal every veteran with value. To tell you the truth I have no interest in giving the yankees the final piece to a super team unless its an extreme overpay and I have seen no rumors to suggest that is the case. The yankees farm system is trash so I really hope we don't make any deals with them at all.

I doubt seriously that the Yankees would ever trade him, but Urshela would really interest me. Especially if he came along with a Luis Gil. Again, I don't think the Yankees would ever make the deal, but it would be nice. Urshela is not nearly good enough to highlight a package for Hader and the Yankees would send him over very happily. It amazes me what some people are willing to take for the best reliever in baseball. Either a team blows us away or Hader stays put.

Andujar is a DH playing third whose OBP is completely dependent on hitting for a high average since he never walks. This is not a guy that we should be looking to acquire at all much less for the best reliever in baseball with 4 years of control.

The Yankees have nothing of interest unless they want to part ways with Gleybor Torres.

Stearns should be fired on the spot if Andujar is the main piece of any Hader trade.

I give it till mid April before the majority of fans are calling for his release. Honestly just do not see any upside to this signing and wouldn't at all be surprised if he ends up being below replacement level. I guess dumpster diving in baseball can be quite expensive.

I think the team is considerably worse as of now. Narvaez has a chance to be nearly as good as Grandal offensively but the differences defensively are huge. Right now we have nothing at third base and hopefully that will change. I think we downgraded at first base, catcher, and most likely a big downgrade at third although that has yet to be determined. The Garcia signing is bleh as I see him being mediocre at best. The pitching staff looks to be around the same as last year with a rotation that just isn't good enough unless Burnes and Peralta pitch up to thir potential which I can definitely see happening. Stearns is definitely a great GM and he must see something in these players that I am missing but I just can't get excited about most of these moves besides acquiring Urias who should at the very least be a big upgrade offensively at short though the defense will probably be problematic. Yeah nice call. Now tell us that we’re close to signing Donaldson. We aren’t Clearly you know what your talking about. Do we have a plan for third base or is it going to be Sogard/ Healy. Also do you see the team making any big moves or is this pretty much the team we will be bringing to spring training.

After going dumpster diving all offseason I would be absolutely shocked if we signed Donaldson. Its either going to be a scrub like Frazier or we are going with Sogard/Healy. I think its obvious by now that we are going with a far smaller payroll than we had in 2019.

that is my prediction as to who we sign for third base. I want no part of him but then again I have hated almost everything else we have done this offseason so why not sign this guy to cap off an incredibly underwhelming offseason.

Any reason you think that? I think someone is going to give him a 4/110 deal. Just the tea leaves I guess. Rumors last week that the Brewers made a strong play for Rendon. Healy is a (very) poor man's version of Donaldson, so it would stand to reason that he would be a solid back-up plan should Donaldson have injury concerns. Call it a somewhat educated hunch I suppose. Part of me also wonders if they may consider Castellanos at 3B, terrible defense and all. I really hope they don't sign Castellanos for third base. I would have been fine with signing him to play OF or first base but we just cannot afford to have that defense at third base. We aren't winning anything with an infield defense including Narvaez, Urias, Hiura, and Castellanos every day.

I can't see Stearns giving Donaldson 4 yrs for 100 million which is what he will probably cost and I don't blame him. Other than that I just don't see what else we can do at the position that would get us excited. I can accept Seager if Seattle kicks in a lot of money and we don't give up anything useful but I wouldn't be excited by it.

Just my opinion of course and we will have to see how this all plays out but as of now I think the Brewers are a considerably worse team now then when the 2019 season ended. I think the catcher downgrade is huge with the Narvaez defense a huge detriment. I think we downgraded at first base as well as I would completely rather have Thames than Smoak. As of now third base is a huge downgrade and I prefer the 2019 pitching staff as I would rather have Chase Anderson and Davies instead of Brett Anderson and Lauer. The upgrade at shortstop is big though I really question how Urias will handle the position defensively. I get why most of you just trust Stearns so much that they go along with his every move but other than the Urias trade I haven't liked one move besides the possible upside with Lindblom who came cheap. Still plenty of offseason left but I am not very happy with the changes.

Why are we comparing Moustakas to Garcia when one is a third baseman where decent offensive production is hard to find while the other is a corner outfielder whose production is relatively easy to find. The third base options are pitiful other than Donaldson who is not worth a 4 year commitment. If Garcia was a third baseman replacing Moustakas the comparisons would make much more sense.
