  1. Derek Johnson made scrubs like Chacin look good. This wasn't a talented pitching staff last year and its not now either. Chacin has an ERA two runs worse than last year.
  2. I could definitely see a team like Houston who has a great farm system and a deep major league roster being willing to offer a ton for Hader. As for Yelich maybe one of these teams with deep prospect lists would be willing to offer a ridiculous amount. Never would I suggest trading either Hader or Yelich just for the sake of making a move. Maybe a team would be willing to make us an offer that we just couldn't turn down and we should be open to that possibility. The chances of us moving either of them anytime soon is remote and I was just throwing the idea out there for discussion.
  3. This team is barely above .500 and only in first place due to the division being really bad. Instead of insulting people how about giving a detailed answer why we shouldn't consider trading Hader.
  4. This is how I look at it. At the present time we are the 4th or 5th best team in the NL and I think I am being generous putting us that high. The Dodgers, Braves, Cubs all have better talent than we do and you can definitely make an argument that the Phillies and Nationals do as well. I think it would be foolish to put all of our chips in now when we would still be big underdogs if we somehow squeeze into the playoffs. The Dodgers and Braves are definitely set up to contend for years to come and the Padres are going to be loaded in due time. I think this organization needs to look itself in the mirror and come to the realization that we need to reload and the only way to acquire cost controlled elite talent to go up against the leagues best is to consider trading Hader and maybe even Yelich. I love having Hader in a Brewers uniform as much as anyone and feel the same way about Yelich but what I love even more is the thought of building a sustained winner for years to come. We currently have the best relief pitcher in baseball and one of the top 5 players in the sport yet this looks like an average at best team. Looking past this current season we will probably be losing Moustakas and Grandal unless we want to give them long term deals for 20 million per season or so and I don't see adequate replacements in our system. Hiura will be a big time offensive player but who else is coming besides possibly Grisham and we don't really know what to make of him yet. Bottom line to me is we have to really consider making moves like this that would certainly be painful as trading a guy like Hader is not a fun exercise but when I look at this teams future compared to the likes of the Dodgers and Braves I just don't see how we can matchup against them without more elite talent and that means considering moving Hader and Yelich.
  5. This team doesn't look like a true contender and with Moustakas and Grandal likely gone after the season we have many holes to fill. With a less than stacked farm system and only Hiura looking to be an impact offensive force it may be time to consider cashing in one of our two biggest assets and move Hader if we can get a huge package in return. To be honest I would even consider moving Yelich but what do you guys think of the possibility of moving Hader. We should only do this if we can get a great return but I think its something we should consider. Teams like Houston, Tampa, and Atlanta have the need and the farm systems to make such a deal.
  6. I completely agree. This is a stars and scrubs roster and when the stars have off nights we can't win. Yelich, Grandal, and Moustakas have to produce every night or we can't score and Hader has to pitch two innings for us to win.
  7. The downgrade from Johnson to Hook was huge just look at what Cincinnati is doing pitching wise vs what we have done. Haines I believe is an upgrade from Coles who wasn't very good. Honestly I just don't think this team is all that talented and without Johnson getting outstanding results out of a mostly talentless staff we are where we are. I think this team is very reminiscent of many of the Melvin teams; it's a stars and scrubs roster. We have three position players playing at an all star or better level and the other five position players being mostly scrubs though that should change with Hiura back in the lineup. The pitching staff has one starter in Woodruff with top of the rotation stuff along with a bunch of 4th and 5th starter types. Hader is the only top bullpen guy though I think Houser can be very good as well. When you look at this roster who has the upside to be much better than they currently are. To me the answer to that is Houser, Burnes, and Peralta and Hiura among the position players. Bottom line to me is we greatly overachieved last season and without the magic wand of Derek Johnson we just aren't good enough. I don't blame Counsell for this subpar roster but I do blame either he or Stearns for letting Johnson and even Tunnell go. I just hope we don't gut what is left of a subpar system for short term upgrades when we just aren't a very talented team.
  8. Both the players and management like the job Hook is doing, and that’s good enough for me. According to sources, McCalvy earlier in the year, said Hooks strength is mechanics and DJ pitch sequencing. Woodruff Houser Guerra have taken giant steps forward, in Guerra’s case he developed a plus curve since last year, with Hooks help. Just trying to be fair here. If management likes the job that Hook has done they really aren't very smart.
  9. Ronald Acuna is signed for 8 seasons so I would take him over Yelich. You can probably also argue for guys like Tatis Jr and Vlad Jr who all have far more contractual control than Yelich. Clearly I would take Yelich over all of them for the next few years but I don't know how you can choose him over someone like Acuna who is locked up for far longer.
  10. So when does Chris Hook take the blame for the complete implosion of the pitching staff. We have most of the same staff as last season and nearly every pitcher is worse and many of them significantly worse than last season. I would fire him alone for how badly Burnes who has top of the rotation stuff has regressed. I am sure there will be plenty of people who say that the pitching coach means little to nothing and that our pitchers have just been unlucky or some nonsense. The truth is the biggest loss this team suffered was Derek Johnson leaving and being replaced by a guy that seems truly incompetent.
  11. Maybe we had a great pitching coach that got the best out of everyone and now we don't. I would fire this pitching coach alone on the huge regression from Burnes who has top of the rotation ability.
  12. which, by the way, has nothing io do with the departure of Derek Johnson. Nah we don't miss Johnson at all.
  13. It's also pretty annoying to see how we have managed this roster. Not that it matters with this pitching staff getting crushed nearly every night but a supposed playoff contender should not have the best right handed bat in the organization in AAA while Shaw, Aguilar, and Perez flail away every night.
  14. I would start by kicking Hook to the curb. Practically every pitcher on this staff has regressed badly under his watch.
  15. This really looks like a Doug Melvin roster; a bunch of soft tossing pitchers and a stars and scrubs lineup. We may have to consider seeing what we can get for Hader and maybe even Yelich.
  16. On the current roster only Braun, Arcia, and Cain among the position players and Nelson, Burnes, Woodruff, Jeffress were originally signed or drafted by the Brewers. We do have Hiura who should be back soon but he appears to be the only potential impact player even close to the majors. We all know that the Melvin years were full of mostly terrible drafts and a lack of impact international signings but to be honest I don't think we are doing that well in that regard under Stearns either. Now Stearns hasn't been GM long enough to make any complete determinations but as of today things don't look great. Stearns has mostly done a great job with trades and short term free agent signings but in order to build a sustainable winner we need to do much better with the draft and internationally as well. There is a lot to be excited about with Hiura but besides him where is the impact talent.
  17. They're not good, but it's pretty much all the same dudes from last year. Derek Johnson made these bad pitchers look good. Without him leading the staff these are the results.
  18. Moustakas and Grandal are the only ones on that list worth anything and I am not sure that teams would give up a lot for Moustakas on a career year. Grandal may have value but catcher rentals rarely fetch much in return.
  19. I would give Peralta, Burnes, and Houser a shot this season. At least those guys have upside. I'm tired of going with a bunch of soft tossing veterans who are 4th and 5th starters at best.
  20. Derek Johnson made this pitching staff look much better than their talent level. Does anyone think the Reds have the third best pitching staff because they have the third best ERA in baseball. Meanwhile our staff gets crushed nearly every night.
  21. Derek Johnson should get a managers job next offseason. What he has done two seasons in a row with less than stellar talent is remarkable.
  22. Just because the pitching sucks doesn't mean that Hiura shouldn't be on this roster.
  23. Just one of many questionable roster decisions that Stearns has made this season.
