  1. Yeah the awful Boxberger. 2.89 ERA and 1.14 WHIP versus league averages for relievers of 4.14 and 1.33. Pick up a power arm to fit in between Box and Williams and this pen is close to elite (if not elite if Sanchez and Cousins keep it going).
  2. Is putting a runner on first with two out really something to get out of? Seems pretty routine.
  3. He was pretty horrible until becoming a Brewer. To what would you attribute his success in Milwaukee? They showed a video of the difference the other day after he took deGrom deep. If I remember correctly he has been keeping his hand back and making contact deeper and not out in front. This has also helped his pitch recognition. I wonder if Haines made those suggestions?
  4. I ask you to look at all rosters across the major leagues. They all have guys like Reyes as their bottom ends. And he’s our bottom end with injuries.I'd guess most contending teams have better top ends than we do though. The only way to contend with that is to be better at the margins, particularly with the way CC uses his roster. Having said that, he is gone when Wong comes back.

  6. Hasn't been a very well called game today either. The guy last night might have been average but the average of a bunch of garbage is still garbage.
  7. After the Reds they have an off day, the Royals for two, then another off day. I would think they load up to try and make a statement coming out of the break.
  8. Eh, who would you hve pinch hit with that would give you more confidence than the pitcher they'd have to put in to cover the next (and probably next two) innings? Taylor is the only competent hitter on the bench but we do have the option of using someone like Burnes for an inning or two. They aren't putting Burnes in today. If you believe that Taylor would have come through there and Lauer would have held the Reds lineup the next couple of innings, then sure. I'm not.

  10. I like how every hitter is so hesitant to put the bat down becuse no one knows what will be called a strike.
  11. Yeah...Cincy is a lot better within these threads then they are on paper or in person. Winning the division isn't easy, maybe they are providing a good reality check to fans that this team isn't going to run away with the division, but man do people act like they are some world beaters while forgetting that we have a pretty good squad over here too I think the Reds are slightly better. Our rotation is better but not by much. Their lineup is better but not by much. Our pen and defense are probably better. I'm not fawning over them, but it seems pretty clear to me.
  12. I don't think it's all that extreme with Wong in the lineup. I'd give the Reds the edge but not by a ton. If the Reds could manage to land Kimbrel, and with Atone, Sims, Gray, Moustakas and Senzel coming back they’d have to be the favorites based on overall talent. I'd agree with that but the Brewers will make moves to. I just don't think it's an extreme difference.

  14. 1) Wong back Thursday puts Peterson at 1b or the bench. Solves multiple criticisms of yours 2) Cain back around the 20th solidifies CF and puts Bradley on bench 3) Vogelbach back around Aug 1 improves the offense at 1b/ph/dh 4) Topa hopefully back in August strengthens the pen 5) Shaw back in mid-August strengthens 1b/3b/ph/DH Wong back for how long?? Cain back for how long?? Topa who knows?? Shaw makes us better I guess but he was hitting 200 when last seen. None of these moves says hey David don't take any calls. we good. I don't think you can have Shaw, Vogey and Tellez on the same roster though.
  15. I don't think they've been all that outplayed. The games have been close. Close yes. But which team had the nerve and skill at the plate when it counted? I think that is overstating it. It was one pitch tonight. If Narvaez eats one more biscuit in the pregame meal things might be different. If they hold up Narvaez things might be different. If that stupid Yelich call doesn't happen things might be different. Miley was just good the other night but in game one the Brewers had the nerve and skill.
