1) Wong back Thursday puts Peterson at 1b or the bench. Solves multiple criticisms of yours 2) Cain back around the 20th solidifies CF and puts Bradley on bench 3) Vogelbach back around Aug 1 improves the offense at 1b/ph/dh 4) Topa hopefully back in August strengthens the pen 5) Shaw back in mid-August strengthens 1b/3b/ph/DH And I don't think third is a mess.
Either this team has a bunch of garbage on the roster, in which case they shouldn't be expected to hold an eight game lead, or they should be expected to hold an eight game lead, in which case they have a solid enough roster to do so.
Some games do have a lot of close call… this one especially. Bad calls are all magnified when the score is close and tempers are high. Tempers are high because everyone knows its an important series. To have so much decided by the umpires is not a good look for baseball.
I'm totally in agreement that the Yelich call was trash. Strictly have been referring to today's zone, which some folks have liked to embellish to imply that I've been saying the umpiring in the series has been fine. There have been several missed ball/strike calls today. It hasn't been as bad a the last two but that doesn't make it good.
I've seen plenty of guys finish in fair territory on that play. The rule is showing intent to go to the next base, not a jab step and a shoulder shrug. It's a judgement call and it was a bad one.
They didn't trade big league pieces for Tellez to replace him two weeks later. Urias-Adames-Wong aren't being replaced. Yelich-Garcia aren't being replaced. Centerfield is about it and I doubt they do anything there.
7 of the 10 worst calls in the first game were in the Brewers favor. There have been bad calls both ways. Terrible umpiring is terrible umpiring whether in our favor or not. This has been a horribly umpired series.
