  1. Well, that sucks
  2. Suter is being much more aggressive than he typically is and more than he was the first inning or two. Maybe because of the five run lead.
  3. I was at the game tonight and he seems legit. Not exactly a hard thrower but he's no Suter either. He hit 94 a few times but I'd say he sat between 88 and 92. The guy just pounds the strike zone relentlessly with all of his pitches. He educes a lot of weak contact by mixing his pitches well. We were down the line a bit but it looked like at least a change/curve/fastball repertoire. Mechanics are easy and repeatable. He did get hit hard when he made a mistake but he never really made more than one in any given inning (and often none). He worked him self into a couple of small jams but was able to work himself out of them. Definitely not a flashy pitcher but he gets results. Time will tell if can sustain at higher levels.
  4. I wonder if they go with this "role-less" bullpen they have been using since Knebel went out. Imagine being able to use Knebel whenever you want instead of just he ninth knowing you have any number of guys that can lock it down. Keep everyone pitching multiple innings in fewer appearances really seems to be working.
  5. Maybe not and I'm sure there will be some injuries as well. Still, they have Knebel, Logan, Houser, Suter, Lopez and QTC waiting in the wings. Beyond that, they have the assets to trade for pieces as well.
  6. The players still have to hit. I couldn't care less if Coles is let go or not but that isn't going to fix the problem.
  7. Brewers record vs. last place teams 11-1 Brewers record vs. everyone else 5-11 Well yeah, a good team should have that record against last place team but yes, they eventually need to beat a good team to be considered good themselves.
  8. He probably should be playing, but there's no spot for him No room at the inn, so to speak?
  9. I also think they utilize their pen in a way that should theoretically allow them to eat up more innings than traditional pens over the course of a season. More multi inning outings with more planned days off. Less occasions of unnecessarily getting up and down in the pen. Not that I have anything scientific to back this up with but I would assume that 70 outings of 1 inning is more stressful on the arm than 25 outings of 2 innings and 30 outings of 1 inning. I agree. There is something very deliberate about how the pen is being deployed.
  10. I'm confident they'll manage the innings just fine. It isn't going to be 7 guys shouldering all those pen innings, they'll also rotate in Lopez, Houser, and whoever of Woodruff and Suter isn't starting. Maybe even Peralta. The 10 day DL may be used to give guys a break at times. Add in Knebel and Logan who haven't pitched all that much. They have the ammunition to make additions as well. It is certainly different but they seem to have a plan for this.
  11. The pen is being used a lot but I don't get the feeling they are over worked.
  12. I agree this is what we are built for, in tough games when needed. This just doesn't feel like it was at all needed. Those bull pen arms only can eat up so many innings. His pitch count may have been low but after the first three or so innings I didn't think Chacin was all that great. He gave up quite a few long fly balls and got lucky on some mistake pitchers. He wasn't as good as his pitch count suggests.
  13. Doesn't matter. He is the next man up and Suter needs to go. I doubt they call up any of the young guys before mid season.
  14. Nah, that wasn't meant specifically for you but I agree with your thoughts.
  15. Why does everyone leave Ortiz off the list? Anyway, I'd say no but the Brewers have to because most of the other legit contenders are big money teams and can go get whatever they need.
  16. He shouldn't start against the Cubs. Full stop. Prior to this year, he was a Cub-killer in the midst of a pennant race. Much depends on how good Miley may or may not be. In any case, Suter could still be a bullpen option. It doesn't have anything to do with Miley. It has to do with Suter being bad. I'd rather see Woodruff take his lumps than watch Suter get smashed all over the park one more time. If it was a throw away season, sure, let him start. It's not.
