  1. Can Taylor or Hernandez play 3rd? I honestly don't know. If one of them can, it may open up something in the OF but even that seems like a stretch (I know your post was tongue and cheek).
  2. I'd take all of Woodruff/Suter/Guerra over Miley right now. I, personally, don't think he is one of the best five. Hopefully I'm wrong.
  3. I am on the Williams bandwagon big time. I'm not sure his stuff is quite as nasty as Hader but it's close and I think Williams has better command of that stuff. I think he and Hader form a nasty 8th inning R/L combination eventually.
  4. You make it sound like we know Miley is for sure not one of our best 5 starters. I'm not saying he is but I think there is definitely a chance he is. You could probably make an argument (not a good one) that Miley is one of the best 5. However, that is more of an indictment on just how bad the back end of the rotation is as much as it is a commentary of Miley's prowess.
  5. You put the best 25 on the roster. Period. Guys like Miley and Gallardo are a dime a dozen and will be released by the boatload as players exercise opt outs and get cut loose outright.
  6. It's possible but I'm thinking he still hasn't regained his stuff from the last time he was hurt. If he could, without question, show is stuff was back, then maybe you get that showcase. In fact, I'd think he would be eager to do it under those circumstances. He's not doing that which is what makes me think the downside risk is too great to do a showcase.
  7. I don't think anyone is going to buy into his rumors again, I think he was merely stating how interesting if he was right yet again? I believe he made the call on the last week of March about 2-3 weeks ago, which is a fairly bold call at that point. Looking back at the guy sifting through past posts he looked to have a pretty good track record. Is there a chance that Cobb could be hurt? Do teams have access to a FA medical records if something just came up. Are teams at least allowed to watch him workout? If I'm any team and I can see him pitch right now. And he looks to be sharp. I might give him the offer he wants. I wouldn't see the point of doing a showcase if I were Cobb. If he doesn't look sharp he gains to lose a lot more than he would gain if he looked sharp. Like others have noted I think he has made the decision to wait things out for as long as it takes. Someone will get hurt and that team will pony up if they don't have a better option.
  8. Yeah, pretty much agree with all of this. The in person reports on Braun are good. Assuming that and his health hold, then I can buy this. It's a different role for Braun but given his age and nagging injuries managing him in that way makes sense. Here's to hoping he's much better at first than he was at third.
  9. What prediction? We had a poster here that claimed to have a source in the Brewers front office that predicted Cobb would be signing the last week of March. He did not guarantee that it would be the Brewers signing him, although he alluded to that idea several times previously. That poster most here feel is a fraud, although he continues to feed "inside info" to a former poster here who passes along Brewer info on his right-wing blog. All that info is in this thread, but probably better to summarize than to take a couple hours to go back and read through this mess. Let's not forget that at least two mods with connections to the Brewers confirmed with the Brewers that said poster had no inside information.
  10. That has been my point all along. He is essentially being moved to a utility role although a limited one. He's phasing into the next part of his career by adapting in order keep going. That doesn't mean he sucks or that he isn't going to play but Yelich, Cain and Santana are gonna play more.
  11. Eh, time will tell, but I certainly hope so.
  12. Good to hear. The more of this the better.
  13. Please be true. Something has to happen because this makes no sense otherwise. I don't think it HAS to happen but I don't think it will either. I think trading Braun would be the best outcome. Someone mentioned that Braun was starting at first again today. Thing is he's only started about a third of the games there and he's only been getting a couple of AB's in doing so. He hasn't played a lot of first and Thames has played there just as much. Cain and Santana are racking up starts in CF and RF respectively without starts in other positions. Yelich is being moved between LF and RF mostly. Conversely, Braun hasn't started very many games in the OF at all. That looks like Aguilar is the big loser and possibly a hard platoon at first with Braun getting a few starts LF with Cain moving to RF when that happens.
  14. I'd hope he'd be playing just about every inning possible at first considering how uncomfortable it is for him.
  15. I guess I just disagree with the notion that Braun is going to play "a lot" of first. If that thing was going well they wouldn't need to suddenly try and get him AB's in RF. Or could it have to do with wanting to keep Yelich in LF more when Braun plays in the OF? Well sure, but why not do that from the beginning of spring then if that was the plan? Did this just occur to them in the last four days that they'd want Yelich in LF as much as possible? Either way, still don't see any suggestion that Braun is the primary RF.
  16. I guess I just disagree with the notion that Braun is going to play "a lot" of first. If that thing was going well they wouldn't need to suddenly try and get him AB's in RF.
  17. Condescension aside, all that tells me is that the 1B experiment isn't working so they are trying to find more AB's for Braun. It doesn't say that Braun is all of a sudden going to be the primary RF. They aren't making a point of saying they are getting Santana AB's in LF. They seem pretty set on Yelich-Cain-Santana OF from left to right and are trying to find ways to work in Braun, not the other way around. My overall point still stands.
  18. This is what I was referring to.......this poster suggests that Santana will play every day.....and that Braun can't play first......so that basically leaves him as a 4th outfielder because we know Cain and Yelich are playing. CC has specifically stated that Braun will be limted to LF and 1B. If Braun Can't Play first (and that doesn't seem to be going all that well), then he has to play left. Are they then going to move that GG LF that they paid a ton for to RF on a permanent basis where said GG LF's defensive value is significantly reduced? It's not like Braun is a significant defensive upgrade over Santana, Santana is younger and he out hit Braun last year. Braun is getting older, looks to be declining and is prone to nagging injuries. They were trying to trade the guy just to get rid of his salary after all. On most teams I don't think Braun is a 4th ourfielder in the traditional sense. He isn't a back up outfielder. However, this team has three other guys that would start on just about every other team in the league. You think it's silly that Braun sits more, I think it's silly to suggest a 25 year old that had an OPS+ of 126 last year isn't going to play. So yeah, on THIS TEAM I think Bruan is the fourth OF. I DO NOT think he is what would normally be considered a traditional 4th OF. He is obviously more talented than that.
  19. I drove over from LA to Maryvale a few days ago, and the biggest and most pleasant surprise was how smooth and comfortable Braun looked at 1B - despite what he says. A back-handed stab here; a pick in the dirt there. My friend, a huge baseball (ugh, Yankees) fan, was also adamant about how good Braunie looked there. So honestly I don't think that needs to be an issue. I could see him starting 60 games or more at 1B. Cool, that sounds really good. I know a week ago Braun was pretty adamant that the wasn't even remotely comfortable there but a first hand report goes a long way. I guess in a couple of weeks it'll be obvious one way or the other.
  20. That is predicated on a historically bad infielder being able to learn how to play an adequate first base in six weeks. If that doesn't happen then either Santana or Braun are losing PA's.
  21. I'd consider 50 significant but I haven't heard or seen CC commit to 50 games.
  22. Christian Yelich pending ... a healthy Ryan Braun is the best hitter in this lineup and it isn't really close. If he is healthy he is playing. Thames will be the odd man out if all 5 are available. That assumes Braun is going to see significant time at first. That doesn't seem likely at this point.
  23. The more I think about this the more I think Braun is the odd man out here. If Santana hits like he did last year, he is going to play everyday. The move to first for Braun is working out about as I expected which means only a few AB's there. That means probably both Broxton and Phillips to AAA and Aguilar sticks. I think this is the team transitioning Braun to the next phase of his career without being overly public/obvious about it.
