  1. I would tend to agree that the process should not change and I would advocate for anyone's right to post whatever list they choose with no expectation that they have to defend that list. Equally, I would advocate for anyone's right to comment on that list in a respectful manner. Frankly, I don't see what the issue is here. This is a message board so by definition people post things and then other people post comments/responses to that thing. No need to get overly personal or overly nasty about it, but if you don't want people to comment on your opinions, then you probably shouldn't post them in this kind of environment.
  2. If I "banked" on every proclamation you've made I'd be living in a perpetual state of disappointment. Having said that, you are probably more correct on this than not but I would never bank on it happening. Either way, this is a really good problem to have if both pan out. Trade chips matter too.
  3. 1 Brinson, Lewis 2 Phillips, Brett 3 Woodruff, Brandon 4 Hiura, Keston 5 Ortiz, Luis 6 Burnes, Corbin 7 Harrison, Monte 8 Erceg, Lucas 9 Ray, Corey 10 Diaz, Isan 11 Bickford, Phil 12 Clark, Trent 13 Gatewood, Jake 14 Houser, Adrian 15 Lutz, Tristen 16 Williams, Taylor 17 Dubon, Mauricio 18 Peralta, Freddy 19 Lemons, Caden 20 Nottingham, Jacob 21 Diplan, Marcos 22 Ponce, Cody 23 Harrison, KJ 24 Medeiros, Kodi 25 Feliciano, Mario 26 Stokes, Troy 27 Lopez, Jorge 28 Williams, Devin 29 Pennington, Josh 30 Supak, Trey 31 Herrera, Carlos 32 Ward, Je'Von 33 Kirby, Nathan 34 Orimoloye, Demi 35 Murphy, Brendan 36 Webb, Braden 37 Lara, Gilbert 38 Ernesto, Larry 39 Brown, Zack 40 Yamamoto, Jordan 41 Derby, Bubba 42 Rodriguez, Carlos 43 Wilkerson, Aaron 44 Garcia, Gabriel 45 Perrin, Jon 46 Feliciano, Jay 47 Henry, Payton 48 Taylor, Tyrone 49 Rose, Jayson 50 Carmona, Jean
  4. After hearing the in-person accounts I'd probably lean more pessimistic.
  5. I haven't run any numbers but I'm guessing that signing these 16 year old kids is even more of a crap shoot (no matter how high the signing bonus) than the actual amateur draft. With regard to Lara specifically, he is still young enough to turn it around but it's getting late in the game for him at this point. I guess I lean in the direction that he probably won't pan out but I wouldn't necessarily agree that that means they wasted the money on him. The Brewers need to be engaged in all talent streams. If the scouts really liked him (and by all accounts they were justified in that feeling) then I have no problem with them taking a big money shot every now and again.
  6. What else, frankly, would the guy post about? With regard to Stokes, I agree that his value as a player should not be affected by the players ahead of him at the same position. I kind of put him in the same category as a Kris Davis or Scooter Gennett. I'm not saying they are similar players at all, just saying they were players that were always doubted for some reason even though they continued to hit pretty much at every level. Maybe Stokes pans out, maybe not. Like others have mentioned he is producing where other, more highly touted, prospects are not. I am a believer that there is far more to evaluating minor league players than just looking at a stat line and I admittedly favor higher ceilings over production from lower ceiling players, but production shouldn't be ignored entirely either. In the end I'll rank at least a handful of outfielders ahead of Stokes but I wouldn't be surprised to see him have a more productive big league career than a few of them.
  7. Clancy, you don't have to justify a single thing to me (or anyone else). It's your list and you have every right to put it out there. You were consistent and steadfast in your support for Brent Suter so kudos for that. However, you have also had Michael Ratterree, Jorge Ortega, Jon Perrin, Ronnie Gideion, Dallas Carroll and Nate Greip ranked in your top ten. Not to mention prominent spots for guys like Greg McCall, Joan De La Cruz, Mark Williams, Matt Long, George Iskendarian, Colin Walsh, Garin Cecchini, Mitch Ghelfi and Cooper Hummel (among others) often ahead of players who have, or will have, gone on to have great success. You don't get to own one and not the others. I do agree that extreme outliers affect the results and wouldn't mind at least considering measures to mitigate those outliers like throwing out the high and low. Barring that, I just hope as many people as possible vote as that is the second best way to mitigate outliers.
  8. First, I'll say that I have my issues with the lists that clancy submits and, frankly, I agree with what you are saying but at the end of the day he is entitled to his list. I guess you could argue that if he is entitled to his list then folks are entitled to criticize his list. I guess I just don't see the point and would rather folks just let him be like the crazy uncle at thanksgiving who spouts off about conspiracy theories. We all know the uncle is nuts, just carry on like nothing happened.
  9. I think the first two responses are perfectly representative of what you are going to hear with this question and I'd be willing to bet there is a strong correlation between the former response and folks who didn't like the pick to begin with.
  10. So was Yount athletic when he won his MVP at SS but not when he won his MVP in the OF? Just a ridiculous statement to make.
  11. This team just isn't ready for prime time. Too many little mistakes.
  12. Clearly this Pleskoff guy did not look at batting averages!
  13. Many, many, many years ago I actually witnessed this happen during a little league game. IIRC the kids was about 10 and I wasn't much older than that my self and it is still one of the saddest things I have ever experienced. There was a fire department literally on the other side of the parking lot and it still wasn't quick enough. That experience was solely responsible for kids being forced to wear chest protection all through little league.
  14. Why would Gideon be in the running? I could think of a dozen guys before Gideon would even be a thought.
  15. Yeah, not a list of guys I would lose any sleep over. Sure, there are a few I'd like to keep if it could be worked out but none that I would classify as must keep.
  16. I agree with this.
  17. At this point, it's just white noise. Another ridiculous post in a long line of ridiculous posts. It's hard to take these seriously at this point.
  18. On the positive side, Brown and Pennington with very nice outings so far.
  19. I don't know how you look at Cordell's minor league career and come to the conclusion that he can't hit and I'm not a bit Cordell fan. He can hit better than most, just not enough to be a first division starter. It think he ends up with a fine career as a 4th OF or second division starter. With regard to Ray, this is the second thread you have expressed your dislike of him. I'm guessing you never liked the pick and Reilly did a good job of countering your thoughts in the other thread. The problem with your perspective is that minor league development is not always linear. There are going to be steps backward for some guys before they can move forward.
  20. From an offensive perspective, this is probably the most talented grouping I have seen down there...ever. Having said that, quality scouting reports are very hard to come by. I think Carmona, Abreu, Familia, Ernesto, Martinez, Rodriguez and Florentino is a really strong group. I am much more skeptical of catchers and pitchers down there, maybe irrationally. I take more of a "prove it stateside" attitude with the catchers and pitchers.
  21. Surprised Roegner didn’t place somewhere on your top 100. He was one of the last few cuts from my top 30. Big lefty with decent stuff and keeps getting better as the season goes on. Just a case of being 24 at A ball? I give him some pass on that being a Tommy John and warm weather pitcher. I know you watch the T-Rats regularly so thought I’d ask. I've not seen or heard anything on his stuff. I was under the impression it was pretty ordinary though that impression is admittedly unfounded. What do you have that says his stuff?
  22. True, but a pitcher can't keep digging these holes and expect to continually get out of them. This was not a good outing in any way for Hader.
  23. He got out of it but that was a discouraging inning on many levels.
  24. I know Suter has his cult following but that guy is just not an MLB starter unless it's under the gravest of circumstances.
