  1. I was almost laughed off the board last year for saying Salome was in my top 5. {It may have been 2 years ago} I feel good about my choice. It's hard to have him above Escobar, but he might be #2 in my eyes. He'd be a top guy regardless of position, and he might well end up as a catcher in the bigs.
  2. Many guys in my office have lost huge commissions after giving people the idea of what to do to protect their money...they sign them up, and then the customer cancels at some point, taking the idea they knew nothing about to their "money guy" who has kept them at risk for years.
  3. His OPS is better than Hart's. Mike is the least of the problems.
  4. I don't even notice it. It's a part of the game you'd have to be a fool not to partake in, but if you focus on the action, it's all just background noise.
  5. in retail the general markup is around 200% Don't know where this info is from, but in grocery, it is a very competitive industry, they make less than a penny for every $1 they take in. Their margin ranges from negative to about 40% depending on the item. For mass merchandisers, the range goes to about 50%, but overall it's far less. I used to work in one of the highest markup areas of retail, and we never made 100%, never mind 200% markup. There may be some mom and pops charging 3x what they paid, but they either have no competition or won't be around much longer.
  6. He's also healthy for the first time in ages.
  7. FTJ, I can hit a 80 mph fastball pretty good in the batting cage...but don't ask how I hit a breaking ball or run.http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif
  8. I cannot find his MIN HR to time, but it only took him 18 seconds on his one versus TOR this year, when he was unsure what was going on. And the difference between the world record and a "fast" runner is probably only a second...these races in China are within a couple tenths of a second. As I said, I'm sure some people can run around 120 yards of bases in 16 seconds, but I can't, and I never could. I think very few "civilians" can. And if people feel they are in better shape than a pro athlete, one has to wonder why you're not famous.
  9. I work out everyday and I guarantee you I would score before he made it to third base. My marathon pace is nearly as fast as his sprint pace. Heh, that might be a stretch. The other night, Prince scored from first on a triple by Hart before Corey stepped on 3B. Granted, Prince had a head start of his lead at 1B, but I hear Hart is rather speedy. Prince is certainly a big guy, but he also a pro athlete. He's much, much faster than many catchers, and considering his youth, while heavy, is still probably in pretty good shape...he never has to stop at 1B on a ball down the line or in the gap, for example. A double always ends up as a double. I believe they timed Prince on one of his inside-the-park HR's and it was 16 seconds, or something like that. While that's possible to beat, for most of us, it is ridiculous to think about, even back when I was in the best shape ever. Of course, until you can drive balls 450 feet off the top pitchers in the world, it's all moot. I think it is safe to say Fielder is a good bet to age badly. But, he's likely to be very good until he hits 30.
  10. I'd go back to PT delivery if everyone tipped like most here. Golly.
  11. I did a post at Ramblings once showing how many corner OF's just drop off a cliff at 32 or so. I'll have to find that, as Geoff seems to be joining that group.
  12. Brewer is doing fine for his age, people forget that when looking at stats and future potential. He's a baby, he'll be fine. He has 2-3 years before he needs to even be at AAA.
  13. I agree on Penny. And while Hart's arm is not Clemente like, "weak" is a poor description. It's solid.
  14. $1-2. I've never worried about percentages, since it isn't much harder to deliever 4 pizzas than it is 1. I delivered for 5 years back in the day, and I usually averaged about 80 cents - $1.10 per delivery a shift. This was '90-'95, so maybe it's went up a bit.
  15. I meant guys like Geoff are free. We should not need to give up a decent relief guy for him.
  16. Shawn Johnson has a smile that could unite a nation. And my goodness, Nastia actually has a chest. I thought that was against the rules.http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/wink.gif
  17. The Crew can claim him, but cannot "block him" unless the Cards have a better record. Most players have been placed on waivers by now anyway. COL might have waited on him, but I don't know why they would have.
  18. I'm not sure how well Huff plays 3B, but he did clear waivers, and would be a nice fit at the hot corner if he can play it decently.
  19. I saw an SUV with an IL license that read "CRPT COP". Corrupt Cop?? What else could it be? Patrick, I'd say that means carpet cop.
  20. Again, Briggs brings forth a trade worth discussing. I'm not a big Mora fan, but given other issues, he might be a good stopgap. I don't think they'd be able to offer him arby though.
  21. Nothing the SP wants more than a guy at 3B who has never played there.
  22. Best commish ever. Anyone who can't see that lacks an understanding of where the game was 15 years ago compared to now.
  23. His only pitch of note goes right into a LH hitter's power zone. Until he gets them out, it's a weakness. Much of his career, he was a different pitcher as well, as now he only throws the one pitch. AAA guys aren't Dave Ortiz and the like. If they have power, they're in the bigs.
