  1. This reminds me of the guy at the dog track that insisted he could "beat the system" after he found out he could bet on every dog if he wanted to.
  2. As I have said with the Mets many times, almost every team in the game went 5-12 at some point last year. While not every team went 9-22, not a whole lot went 24-10 either. Teams win and lose based on runs scored and allowed, not through grit and desire, butt hat makes better copy. You'll note how many ground balls have found holes recently for the Crew...getting hot and getting lucky is certainly not unrelated. A win ias a win, whether it comes in a streak or not. It's really a shame words like "choke" and "collapse" are ever used.
  3. Mornaeu was arguably the 4th best player on the Twins that year. It rendered all postseason awards moot for me.
  4. So, just thought I would update my tale, since our tax gal is done with it, and we will pick it up this Wed. She is filing a 1040X and a schedule of some sort, and maybe 1-2 other things, indicating when we bought and sold options and stock. All the options money was reported twice, because it was on my W2 and Smith Barney reported it separately. All the Sharebuilder stuff DID pretty much balance out, I actually lost just a bit on all the trades combined. So, thus far, this is what we will be sending in...while the IRS says we owe $11K+ in taxes, and $15K+ in taxes, penalties, and interest; our amended return, filled out by a professional, will claim we are owed $46. Let's hope for the best. By the way, the most eventful things that happened were my 2 calls to the IRS, and the one call I made to Smith Barney because they never sent me a needed form. The first gal at the IRS told me she was going to grant me a one time only one month extension. When it became obvious our SB form would not arrive in time, I called again, to explain I would be late, just to let them know. The woman told to me hang on, and gave me another one month extension, as if they give them out to anyone who asks. My call to SB was a peach. I talked to 5 people, the first 4 of which all told me they had no idea how to help me, because my SS# was not in their system. The 1st and 4th both asked me when I had worked for Citibank, because they worked in the Citibank associate division. Astoundingly, the 5th person found me with ease and sent me the proper form on the first try. My wife says I'm never filling out our taxes again, and I have no problem with that. Thus far, our bill for the tax help is $221.
  5. Impressive prediction, that's for sure.
  6. ARI is going to trade for a guy they won't need in a month, and deal 2 arms they will need? Doesn't make sense.
  7. That kid hasn't been healthy for ages. Who knows what he could put together if he got 500 PA's.
  8. He'll look for a bullpen weaker than MIL, and there's no opening in the bigs either. Seems unlikely.
  9. X is correct about the pitchers developing quickly, those guys are top 10 picks. The draft is for long-term help, not next year...and doubly so for arms.
  10. Whitlock always tries to spout the truth, and does here, but as usual, exaggerates it to an extreme. The majority of people do not care much for tattoos, and many others don't really like 'em. That said, if Prince had a face tattoo and hit 75 HR's, the whole world would be wearing fake ones. There are many problems with the NBA, some have to do with much of the league being black...but the tattoo thing is a bit of a reach.
  11. He throws hard, but I would say much of talent is taking advantage of the bigger strike zone in AAA, as he always struggles with control in the bigs.
  12. If he was a plus fielding 2B, you might think he could develop the ability to handle other spots, being a CF would seem to make that a non-issue. The talk about him being a utility INF seems silly, because he can only play 1 spot of 3. Right now he's an OF who can play 2B, but folks continue to call for him to be a 2B/SS/3B, which would seem pie in the sky.
  13. McClung has pitched very well twice, both times, having 4 innings before tiring, they do not have the option to send him down. Tom H is as out of it as any insider can be...saying Turnbow would be cut if he struggled in AAA, wondering why Jackson had been sent down. The Crew would love Weaver to pitch well so they can bring him up, but right now, he isn't, so it is all moot.
  14. The scorer can decide to reenact the inning any way he wishes. Weeks would score on any OF single, for example.
  15. I'd move Brantley up to #5, but I'd agree with the top 4.
  16. His move to CF does not keep him from occasionally playing 2B, however, it would seem to preclude him from being a SS/3B reserve in the majors.
  17. That's also why a team's players earned runs do not add up the same as the team total. ERA is a measure of pitching, not a pitcher's defense.
  18. Utility IF's tend to be able to play defense well and play all 3 spots...Crabbe cannot, and Hernan is now a CF.
  19. Why does it make any difference if Huntsville is close to Nashville. WV isn't close to BC, BC to H-ville (well, not far). Even a AAA team being close to the big league club is overrated, because they will both only be home 25% of the time, when needed for a call-up.
  20. I'd name that player Claude. Oh, I think I am doing this wrong. Carry on.
  21. I was shocked to see Breslow signed by the Twins, he looks like a generic wild lefty of little merit.
  22. I can afford Perkins easy. On a good day, TGIFriday's. The vege option may well just be a salad or like product. The vegan option is different as well, probably, so I would guess they might just ask vegetarians, or those with special diets, what do you want? It can't be as spendy as the filet mignon.
  23. He's the epitome of ESPN...he doesn't show the game, he thinks he's bigger than the game. Thank goodness for FSN Final Score.
  24. I was thinking of Wilson from Racine. Looks like no offer had been made to Maymon by the Badgers, and likely, they were not even recruiting him.
