  1. Hall could have easily been thrown out on that sac fly, but you still send him. It's just math.
  2. Bush would be of interest to 29 other teams. I'm far from ready to throw him away. He's never going to be a star, but he'd be on every staff (or ready in AAA). The season is not even a third over yet. Hopefully, Dave will still win 10 games for us.
  3. Both the examples given were with 2 outs, when again, you should be sending the runner even if they have a 55-60% chance of being thrown out. Make them make a perfect throw, and tip your cap if they do. It's all just math, just like hitting on 16...you're going to bust most of the time, but it's still the right move.
  4. Milledge went from 2B to 3B on a grounder to SS. Pujols was picked off when they played the Crew. The other night, the hitter made no attempt to run to 1B as the ball bounced away from Jason. As Kendall picked up the ball, the umpire saw the runner halfway back to the dugout and called him out...I'd never seen that before, I guess if no attempt is made, you don't have to tag them. Withing the last 10 days, an opposing runner forgot how many outs there were and led to an easy DP. Mistakes are mostly just goofs, like errors. They are too bad, but they happen, and I just figure they go in the "all evens out" camp until proven otherwise (Braun last year, Weeks a couple years ago).
  5. The team won Opening Day, so who cares about Hall? Ditto for Prince yesterday. Arguing that one out of 27 shows how much poor baserunning hurts the team, and giving examples in a pair of wins? Russ' examples are very good. What's funny is, according to Aaron Gleeman, people still say how well the Twins do all the little things, even though they suck at them. It's a lot like OXS being 98% accurate in determining runs scored, and folks trip over themselves to talk about everything except the 98%. Can't see the forest, all these darn trees are in the way.
  6. Unless you are an engineer or something, major barely matters. One of the highest GPA's in my Poli Sci classes got a job as a computer programmer, his girlfriend said he had to take a 4 month training class because "he did not know a thing about it".
  7. I've never seen a bike stop at a stop sign or light in my life, unless they had to. They break rules/laws every intersection, and want to be treated however is better for them...like a car, or like a walker.
  8. First touch is all that matters on the sac fly. In most cases, if an ump calls out a ruling, it is not correctable...a fair ball called foul is foul, for example. I would say the batter is out, or possibly a good solution would be a replay at most levels would be fine.
  9. Russ is correct, and the general piling on looking for this and that is silly. I do not recall Hall getting thrown out at 2B, so maybe I'm missing something, but the Crew has picked off several runners at 1B, Braun has some assists, and so on. I also recall a couple times being shocked the runner was sent, and he made it easily, because the throw was off 5 feet. Bill Schroeder said once "Dale must have known his arm is bad", because the OF was letting the ball go on a base hit before the runner got to 3B. Again, you should get guys thrown out with 2 outs, as you have a 35-40% chance of that run scoring...so if Dale sends a guy knowing he has a 55% chance of being thrown out, it's still the "right" move. But, many fans don't get it.
  10. He's 32, so his ceiling appears very low. At best, he's Shouse., Nice AAA depth.
  11. Teams usually score more runs during day games, as many guys see the ball better. It's a minor difference, 5% maybe.
  12. I still have not figured out how to reload my account. Help!
  13. Not from MIL he won't. Small market teams have yet to go anywhere near that with a pitcher...too fragile. The Twins had no desire to give Johan $17M to Johan, and the Crew won't with Ben.
  14. Conspiracy theories are stupid. I would never refer to anyone as stupid.
  15. Stetter, Riske, and Gagne might all be back soon, and DiFelice is the only ineffective reliever at the moment, (and other than that groove ball to Ortiz, he hasn't been bad either). I don't think Mitch comes back that quickly.
  16. Well, Hatteberg needs to be moved as well. They may have a deal close to being done. And Patterson might have some value as a PH or defensive replacement for Dunn (or maybe Griffey, if he's not 100%). He's better than most 5th OF's.
  17. Jackson has a future as a reliever, he has a pair of nice pitches. He's gone because DiFelice can go longer if needed, even spot start, albeit ineffectively, versus LH bats at least. He'll be gone soon too.
  18. The conspiracy stuff is just stupid, as it always is. The key is to play an easy schedule when you are at less than full strength, and a tougher schedule when you are healthy and/or playing well...good luck trying to finagle that.
  19. I don't recall more than a out or two at home all year, and none without 2 outs (or on contact plays with a runner at 3B). Hart and Weeks get thrown out trying to steal once in a while, but I'm not sure where "all these outs" are coming from. I would compare this to the supposed "we've blown so many late leads", when in reality, they're about 20-2 when leading after 8. Just trying to assign blame when the real problem is simple; low OBP, subpar SLG, and a high ERA. Those are pretty difficult things to fix, however, so folks look for easy problems...however, they are rarely anything more than imaginary.
  20. An extension now? Ben has not had a healthy year for ages, heck, he missed a start in the first two months. Signing him to a 3y now is really signing him to a 3.7 year deal health wise. We can't tell the future, but if they are going to spend $60M on an arm, I am pretty sure it will be on a guy who has consistently been off the DL and taking the ball 30+ times per.
  21. The Twins would tell Matt to hit more ground balls, stop driving the ball, and mostly, quit taking so darn many walks! This is the team that told Dave Ortiz all the above. When he got to the Red Sox, he had a 4-3 groundout, and the coach asked him what he was doing. He proudly reported he had given himself up to move the runner, and they told him, "Great, next time, move him home."
  22. Sheets and Torres have both been 92-96 all year, Mota 90-95.
  23. First of all, very few guys have their families with them until June, when school is out. That said, two quick hits here: The Brewers have played much better at home than they have on the road for ages, moreso than most clubs, consistently enough where it does not appear to be a fluke. Probably because they are young and they are built for power, which favors MP. While it is nice to have both a tough schedule out of the way and more home games "banked", it doesn't matter if the team does not play well, or they suffer a key injury or two.
  24. We call that a breeze in these parts.http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif
  25. If you start making moves depending on what your fans think, you're one small step away from rightfully losing your job. Sheets is worth what you can get for him, but I'd say the bidding starts at 2 very good prospects, as that's what the draft picks are. And I'm not talking about a loogy like Thatcher, I mean two true top tier guys, say Escobar and Laporta.
