  1. Does Stetter have options? He's been listed as having none or one already this season. Given the Crew's desire to have depth, they will go send the player with options down if it is close, and they should, as a small advantage is meaningless with the small samples players see in a month. Also, Green is not as good versus RH as DiFelice, but he's not nearly as bad versus LH's either. Mark has to get plenty of reps in AAA before it matters anyway. What's good to see is the Crew has several pitchers they look at as depth that would probably be on many other 25 man rosters. You can bet Estrada would be inserted into 12-15 rotations ASAP, yet he will be out as soon as Greinke returns.
  2. Stores run $99 mattress specials often. If you're a single guy, just throw it on the floor.
  3. Don Money would very likely be in the majors coaching if he wasn't such a negative nellie...if you'll recall, he "did not know" about Weeks, Escobar, Fielder, and many others on defense. It's a shame he does not seem to translate his immense knowledge with teaching. If Farris does have a "funky throwing style"...if it needs to be changed, that's what AAA is for.
  4. Doug has avoided Felipe since taking the risk of him during the playoff run. He was on his best behavior in MIL, but sitting on the bench would not be conducive. It seems to me there are plenty of gritty utility types much like Counsell, that I do not see Doug running that risk. He was so good for those 3 months in MIL...
  5. You can still play SS with a weak arm, like Theriot, but you have to play shallower. Time will tell if Farris has that much range.
  6. Theriot throws sidearm, as do many SS's. If he has the arm, it does not matter how he throws. I just doubt he does, or he would not have played 2B until now.
  7. All playoffs are a crapshoot, whether they be best of 1, 3, 5, or 7. The best rises to the top in 162, not in a tiny sample. However, having 3 top SP's is a great thing for the playoffs. I'm all for adding a couple teams.
  8. Too bad people still bring up race. Means nothing.
  9. It is 13K homes. I also wonder if that just measures Milwaukee, as that seems extraordinarily low...I get several e-mails a week about the Bucks.
  10. Not only will Hart be back soon, you can tell nothing about Boggs or Almonte by their 2011 numbers, as both have tiny samples. Kotsay and Morgan will all but certainly be the reserve OF's when Corey comes back. I like Boggs for what he is, but I'm not going to pretend the 5th OF matters enough for me to worry about if he is in N-ville or getting a few PA's in MIL.
  11. The local and tier 2 bands like to look at it as "the well known band is closing for us." I worked at the pizza place with a guy who toured with a band as the "sound guy." He often talked about 6 guys in one hotel room, sleeping in the van, drinking/drugs, not/barely getting paid, and so on. When they came back to EC, my roommate went to see them. He said it was so loud, he could barely tell if it was good, bad, or whatever. I told the guy i worked with this. He smiled and you could tell, it may have been the biggest compliment he had ever received. To him, "loud" was all that mattered.
  12. The melting ice is a slow flush, and is free/cheap. What's sad is places that do not have ice in urinals, yet have an icemaker and stinky urinals.
  13. I would say it is likely Prince has simply decided not to give away AB's trying to hit HR's with two strikes. Braun often swings for the fence with no one on and two outs, and it is not really a bad decision, if you play the math. Prince may well be thinking if he can sneak out an extra hit a week, that's a .310 BA rather than a .260. Heck, .310 with power might get him $50M more than .260 with slightly more pop.
  14. Hart and McGehee are not going to only start 135 games (well, Corey might, but not pro-rated), if healthy. Prince has barely missed 5 games in 5+ years. Barring injury, those numbers are inaccurate. If injury occurs, he's a plane ride away.
  15. A few years ago, we were at my sister's in Boscobel, it was so stormy, the thunder was constant for about 10 minutes...no silence, some rumbles, some cracks. Lightning was closer than in the video above, but also nonstop. Never experienced that before or since.
  16. I still love the idiots who stand out in the rain and wind to report on hurricanes. Quite possibly, the stupidest people on the planet.
  17. $5M for a reserve OF? One that mirrors Hart and Braun? No.
  18. My wife had to stop at a gas station in Plainfield on her way home from Milwaukee, hail and rain incredibly hard. Merrill got hit hard. It split Wausau.
  19. Braddock will not go anywhere unless he has issues. Stetter has an option, so he seems to be an easy send down when Parra returns. It would suck to lose someone when Hawkins comes back, so we'll see if anyone is nicked up.
  20. Good teams use depth to acquire needed pieces. Farris is unlikely to ever be an everyday SS, but he might be able to play there for a couple days a month as a utility player. That would have value, especially with his speed.
  21. Isn't that a tiny crowd in Appleton?
  22. Parra's career numbers as a reliever are very respectable. Add that to his velocity and LHness, he'd find a place on most any team.
  23. Braun has played hurt much of the past two years. That's far more responsible for his lack of power at times. You can go to his monthly splits and see almost exactly when he was banged up. It's incredible his BA has barely suffered.
  24. McClendon, James, or even Rogers (I assume he won't be called up, due to health concerns) would be every bit as likely to succeed as Kintzler. Losing Kintzler for 10 days is hardly a loss, he's not in the bullpen with healthy Parra and Hawkins anyway. He's great AAA depth mind you, but his ceiling seems very limited. Estrada was very good tonight except for one pitch, and was solid last year before he was overused and lost velocity (He should have said he was unable to work a couple of those times, but always said he could go. It's sad how often guys are injured when trying to "play through" soreness or tightness.), as several relievers were unable to go during that time, though unannounced then. It wasn't until after the season it finally leaked out that Hoffman was not 100%, despite daily denials he was injured at the time. Marco has had a long history of success at AAA, which should translate into at least a serviceable middle reliever.
  25. Incredibly lame compared to Hells Bells. I can't imagine most of the crowd even noticed it. Considering the choices were nearly infinite, it's hard to believe it is so ordinary.
