  1. I don't think Doug has much interest in adding a generic middle relief guy like Riske. I think he'll aim higher.
  2. The obvious players who are tradeable are any IF within a couple years of the majors, as all seem blocked. The Crew also has a bunch of similar OF's that they can deal from a position of strength.
  3. Greg, I'd be happy to pick up any SP that would improve the team, be it Mark B, or a more protypical 4th/5th starter to be a long man. However, I would not start mortgaging the future to add another guy.
  4. If the Sox are just looking to dump salary and would not ask much, I think all of us are for picking up any improvements to the 25 man. Mark B would certainly improve the staff, without a doubt.
  5. Greg, we have 7 starters that any team would gladly run out there every 5th day. Granted, 6 now, but Cappy seems ready to come back. I don't know how much better you want it.
  6. That would seem to be the next logical step for the Mallards. It takes an owner who is wealthy in other aspects to accomplish many things.
  7. Dennis has simply completely fallen apart. One bad AFL outing, incredible Mexico, horrible ever since.
  8. Well, I'm far too young to recall the 80's.
  9. Brian, can you tell us clueless folks what rated rookie means or represents?
  10. Best Buy is down to 42 or 43...they are the market leader and people are not going to stop buying electronics. That's a screaming buy right now. I'll be picking up some on Tuesday, when Sharebuilder allows cheap purchases.
  11. I don't care about the age difference at all, but 1. Why would any 40 year-old get involved with a 16 year-old...what's the harm in waiting until she's 18? 2. I seem to recall 18 & 19 year-olds getting very weak sexual assault charges against them, for having consensual sex with a 15 year-old...usually plea bargained down to "conduct detrimental to a child". The you see this and just shake your head.
  12. Mench hits LHP at a 900 OPS clip over hundreds of career AB's, and plays very solid defense (despite what many said all winter). I doubt Vinny would do either this year, and I'm not going to risk it regardless. Vinny is not an upgrade in the least. Teams with playoff aspirations do not weaken the short-term, to say the least.
  13. I felt Kenny Lofton would be a near ideal pickup for a playoff run as a 4th OF and posted it on Ramblings the other night. I don't see a single benefit to Pods over Lofton.
  14. I doubt it, but that'd be great for many of us.
  15. The short season A leagues, New York-Penn being one, are often called rookie ball. I've never heard of Beloit being known as rookie ball, but I will defer to your industry position DHonks.
  16. Honestly, I'd skip the formality and have her pick it out with you. I know many women who despise their ring and cannot say a thing. $7-8K? As already mentioned, anything over $5K is just painfully large, and seems just gaudy. I also know a pair of gals who say they prefer a small ring for ease of life reasons (a big one just gets in the way). As for the no diamond thing, I have never known a woman not to have a diamond in their engagement ring, and I doubt if you want to try and start a fad with your only fiance (hopefully).
  17. Zach Jackson still has value to the Brewers and so does Gwynn. They may never be stars or may be dealt, but reserves and trade bait both have plenty of value. I finished my list, and I'd say Lofton is a better target than Wilkerson.
  18. Wilkerson makes sense, I was just compiling a list of LHRP and LH OF's myself. That said, he won't take all that to get him, I'd say TEX may be happy to dump him for Gross and an A baller with a bit of velocity. Considering Gross is a decent platoon/reserve option, he might be plenty by himself.
  19. His ceiling appears to be a middle reliever, so that makes some sense. Hopefully, his K/9 ratio will improve, he isn't much of anything striking out 4 AAA guys per 9.
  20. Greg, I finally found the article. It remains as embarrassing as I recall...I compared it on Ramblings to a white writer saying the Bucks should add some white fellas to the team...just because they were white. Honestly, I cannot believe he still works there. He just puts race in various current events and madlibs a column out of it. Kane saying the Brewers need more minority players
  21. Unless you want to invest in the market yourself, just go to Money or a financial site like that, and do a portfolio manager, it will tell you where/how to invest in mutual funds. At under 30, I'd be in almost all stocks, mostly high risk, aggressive growth. Just make sure you choose a fund with low fees, 0.5% or less is what i look for. I mostly pick stocks that are beaten down, but solid choices. I bought Home Depot at 33-35 and sold it at 41 this morning. Best Buy is another I own that is recently in a funk.
  22. Most all prospects work as starters in the minors to get innings. Parra is now viewed as a relief guy, as many feel his arm would never handle the workload of a 200 IP campaign.
  23. Marte, or a Marte "type" is quite possibly exactly what the Brewers go after near the July deadline. Gwynn or Gross and a prospect (hopefully one that is blocked) would seem capable of picking up a pretty good LH reliever for a couple months.
  24. I'll take a look Greg, it was not the article SoCal linked, it was much more recent.
