  1. motleyfool.com is a good one.
  2. Soriano is not going anywhere with that deal.
  3. ESPN may well be increasing Make A Wish's donations by 2-3x this week, and a small amount the next couple weeks. Good for them.
  4. Vargas would improve almost any rotation in MLB. Some teams do not want him due to cost or place in the success cycle, but plenty would.
  5. What's really amazing is 7-10 days ago, he was hitting .300 while for the most part, looking as lost at the plate as I would a salad bar. Since then, he's been red-hot.
  6. I'm certainly not going to think Mench has forgotten how to hit LHP after 100 AB's this year. Graffy has been released a dozen times this year on the boards, so platooning him in the corner OF seems a bit of a stretch.
  7. Jones would be a decent, if overpaid, platoon CF. For whatever reason, however, he's been utilized as an everyday corner OF, limiting his appeal.
  8. Joe, those teams looking for an unproven Corey Hart should call the Cubs up and ask about Matt Murton. His numbers are comparable to Corey, minus June of 2007.
  9. WHI is a Puerto Rican bank that dropped almost 40% today because it only made 12 cents a share last quarter, down from 16 cents per, and the 18 cents that was expected. It isn't for the fainthearted, or to bet the farm on, but it's a bank with almost $8B in assets and a book value of $7.50 a share (currently trading at $3.40). I'm adding more tomorrow, and I bought a bunch today after the drop. If you have some money in your portfolio that you are willing to risk a loss on, but may double or triple, this is the one.
  10. Vargas after Sheets makes perfect sense in reality, as the bullpen is usually pretty well rested after Ben goes.
  11. Prince is the only lock, though Sheets and Cordero will probably make it as well. Hardy is a toss-up, though if he is in the 31st man vote, he might well make it, based on stats and good looks.
  12. Sheets will get a pair of starts before the all-star game regardless. Nothing to do with him.
  13. I don't think it's that much of a stretch to say that the wrestling community; fans, investors, and especially the WWE itself, has blood on their hands, and even worse, a child's blood. I didn't think it was possible for myself to think any less of them, but today I do. It is appalling and sickening that the industry allows such sickness and abuse to go by and in many cases, is even covered up. I can only hope this and everything else that has gone on leads to a quick and permanent removal of the entire "sport". They can join puppy mills on my very short list of things I'd ban in a millisecond in my mythical kingdom.
  14. Vargas could not be skipped, as that would have led to Bush (and someone else, I think) starting on 3 days rest. Why Yo instead of Bush? I would think the feeling would be Bush is more capable of having his routine altered than the 21 year-old. Once Yo goes into the bullpen, I assume he'll remain there for quite a while.
  15. I don't see Boone having any value, barring an injury to an IF. He's not replacing Graffy or Counsell. Too bad Marte is off to such a good start. His value is double what it was last year.
  16. Mench has been superb in LF defensively since we acquired him. He might not be as good as Jenkins, but he's close.
  17. Ned sometimes uses a past pitcher/batter split to give Gross or Miller a start. Tom Kelly used to do it all the time. However, it is nearly always a small sample, so it's benefit is minimal.
  18. I would include Hart along with the IF as players who will not be moved at all. He's young, cheap, and effective...you have no reason to deal those guys.
  19. I am a casual Bucks' fan, and will root for them regardless, but they sure seem to like Conley too much. He may be pretty good eventually, but at 19, he will struggle a lot. He and Noah look to be very mediocre additions, backups only, and at #6, you need a guy who is going to step right in and play 25-30 minutes.
  20. One could make an argument that the White Sox would have a real desire to take Vargas and Gwynn for Mark B, but we'd have to see what other offers come their way. Claudio is not the SP Mark is, but he would not be a FA nearly as soon either. I think if Doug would call and offer Vargas, Gwynn, and another real prospect, like Zach Jackson, the Sox would be forced to compare that with others, and go from there. Personally, I hate to deal solid players or prospects for a 2 month rental, and especially a pitcher, who is a single pitch away from being worthless for those 2 months. That said, if the Crew needed a SP badly, the above would probably be a good starting point. Rob Mackoviak and/or a solid middle relief guy might even push me to the positive side.
  21. The White Sox may well overvalue Gwynn more than others, given their love of no power OF's, but the idea Tony would bring Mark B is silly.
  22. Beloit gained territorial rights after Madison lost a team? That seems strange.
  23. I'd say it was an ump's issue...you cannot "forget" about a runner...actually, the home plate ump should be watching to ensure the runner touches home and the other runner. In slo-pitch, with a full count and 2 outs, if I was on base, I'd often leave a tad early, as the umps never paid attention. That may be unethical, but if it helps win the game, you do what you can, especially if your attributes are defense and being gritty, like myself.
  24. You get what they sell the fixed up car for. You used to get fair market value of the car in near perfect condition. I also donated to Rawhide in '02...though I'm not they will take your car. They like cars that are 10 years old or less, as they use them to teach kids how to fix current vehicles.
