  1. Lofton should be a top target, as he could step right in if someone got hurt, and while Gross or Gwynn could do that, you would not feel very secure. I've been mentioning him on Ramblings for a while now, he and Otsuka would be quite a coup.
  2. Greg, let's not forget, these guys aren't all intelligent or well read, they are often uneducated, but good athletes. Jose may well have some language issues as well.
  3. The ball beat Hall, so the out call is going to be made 99% of the time...sadly, the 1% was yesterday, when the home plate ump blew the call twice (once because the ball beat the runner, and once when the tag got him).
  4. Other than Martin hitting 8th, you could have oodles of combos that are close to the same.
  5. Bush's ERA is basically the same as last year if you remove the 6 run 1st inning versus the Cubs in his first start. He's not pitching badly by any means, but he sure does not get the breaks.
  6. Most tend to view it as a AA league, but in reality, it's loaded with players at the A-AAA level. Some teams used to have agreements with them to send them 2-3 extra AAA players, and they would often hit about .350, so it's far from AAA.
  7. and popular blogger Rambling Al That's the nicest thing ever written about me as well!
  8. I would not think Gagne would get you a top guy, maybe a solid, good prospect. I guess it depends on how many bidders and his health status.
  9. I think it hurts him some every time he swings the bat. Between slight alterations of his swing to make it hurt less, not wanting to swing because it will hurt, and the like, it's tough to maintain average production, like he has.
  10. Adding onto what Casey said, a ":heavy" workload for a reliever is about 100 innings, most go about 60-80 innings. Fro a starter, 175-200 is normal, but anything over 225 or so is considered a lot. Why? Well, I think it's harder throwing 5 times in a week and a half for 1-2 innings each than it is pitching twice in that span for 100 pitches. Warming up 6-7 times is also harder than warming up twice and throwing lightly between starts.
  11. And the sad thing is, it is very true. Paris Hilton acted foolishly in jail (at first), and came out a bigger name than ever. You are only in trouble when they stop trying to take your picture.
  12. Mo is certainly an above average PG, and the 2nd best FA on the market right now. He'll make a fortune somewhere.
  13. Hargrove did not get fired.
  14. Short memory, DH. Jose has a very nice curve/slider, his inability to find the plate with it is why he had a poor last month plus last year. Jose is at the very least a solid major league reliever, and still has the ceiling to be a quality set-up guy, or maybe even closer. We'll see if it was fatigue after being overused last year early or if he just settled into his norm. I wish I could have a nice little career like all these "failures".
  15. Elmer was unable to get through a simulated game about a week ago and is currently shut down 'til further notice.
  16. linky Young lefty with solid A numbers in return. As is often the case, Doug gets something of value for a guy people wanted to give away and/or release. Capellan does have a nice ceiling, but short-term, is just another middle reliever. Capuano to be activated with that roster spot.
  17. Gwynn, Parra, and Spurling (whose place on the roster Otsuka would take) might be a good starting point.
  18. With his injury history, I'd deal Parra well before many others. He may also be overvalued because of his perfect game and fine '07.
  19. There is no such thing as bad publicity. Miller would likely say the Brewers are pure evil if it increased their Chicago market share 1%.
  20. Despite having a group that has many waiving about half the team, or trading them for nothing, they are on a 94/96 win pace. Astounding.
  21. Best power hitter available, in the case of both Braun and Laporta.
  22. They have often just drafted the best hitter, so i don't think they have drafted for need.
  23. Other than an illegal Direct connection, no.
  24. I'm sure many kids appreciate Oreos given, a lot more than a bagful of ramen and refried beans.
