  1. But 700 OPS is not bad for a 2B, especially a reserve. Given his decent OBP, I'd say he would be an option as a platoon guy/backup.
  2. The players I mentioned were all with the organization when the article was written, they were just not ready yet. The idea they should just sign blacks to play was and remains asinine. The column was not written to make sense, just to point fingers. It was ridiculous, and still is.
  3. He basically wanted to just add blacks, good or not. He was a know nothing, and had no idea how to build a team. My point is, many people used to imply the organization was racist, but now that the team has 3 blacks who are part of the core, they do not admit they were way off base, nor say anything. Basically, people like that will wait for a losing streak and then pick on something.
  4. SP's are very valuable, and everyone wants to trade them for nearly nothing. Just like in the offseason, Doug will hang onto them and revisit things after the year is over. Personally, I don't see a thing wrong with having 7 major league quality SP's. As I have often said, it's just like 2006 has been completely forgotten...SP depth is a great thing to have.
  5. Sean still would seemingly have a role as a 2B/3B reserve somewhere. He went from the penthouse to a porn worthy studio apartment in no time.
  6. Remember, that one nutty JS writer mentioned we needed more blacks...now, nowhere to be seen with Prince, Rickie, and Bill part of the nucleus.
  7. I can't see any NL team giving as much as an AL team. Bonds could DH for several more years, if he wishes.
  8. He was not injured until late April, not early. And, he could still play, and did, but pretty much only versus LHP, and as an occasional PH. As I said earlier, Corey at 75% was probably as good as anyone they would have brought up. From Google: Corey Hart didn't start against a left-hander Monday because of a sore right wrist. Hart was spotted wearing a brace on the wrist a week ago, but the Brewers denied he was injured. It turned out that he was, of course. Hart originally hurt his wrist while stealing second and third base April 21. X-rays were negative, and Hart has played since, but the injury flared up and head physician Dr. William Raasch recommended rest. He's likely to be limited to bench duty for the next few days. Source: Brewers.mlb.com Apr. 30, 2007 - 9:08 p.m. ET Although he's been seen wearing a brace on his right wrist, Corey Hart isn't injured, manager Ned Yost said. Hart hurt his right wrist running the bases during the Brewers' last homestand. He's available off the bench Monday after Yost again declined to start him in right field. He was at less than full strength from 4/21 until late May, though the team denied it for much of the time, of course. Since his healthy return, he has been doing fine and had no health trouble, it would appear. As I have said, you can tell when Hart was hurt just by looking at his game log. He started 2 of 3 early on, and most all the time since his wrist has healed. http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/players/gamelog?playerId=5973
  9. Or, another comparison would be Alando Tucker was a very good player for 4+ years, and is still not better than a late 1st round pick. How exactly James felt he was anything but a project is beyond reality.
  10. I forget when Corey was injured, but it was in the second half of April. He played until he got hurt, then did not, and now that he is healthy, is playing again. All offseason, we were told Hart would get 400-500 AB's, and barring injury, he will. Most of the unhappiness is from those who refuse to admit that his injury was worse than the team made public, which is commonplace for the Crew.
  11. He isn't even a good college player. Devin Harris was oodles better and still is just a decent NBA point guard, years later.
  12. He played against every LHP, or maybe all but one. But, you often don't face many lefties in a stretch, so that allowed him to heal. He was likely the best option versus LHP even at 75% during that stretch.
  13. Hart played most of the time until he got hurt, then was rested and played sparingly for a month, and now has played nearly every day for 3 weeks or so. It would take quite a conspiracy theory to think Corey was not banged up for much of that month, to say the least. The Crew rarely advertises injuries for strategy purposes, and have no reason to.
  14. Most casual fans think baseball is basically batting order and the manager's "strategery". I don't think either one means much, and rarely discuss them. Ned is doing the exact same thing he was when the team was 24-10. Good teams are still good regardless, and ditto for bad ones. Obviously, changes are made for a variety of reasons, but it rarely makes a difference.
  15. I can't believe they play the AS game on a Saturday night, when the teams draw the best.
  16. SD is 9th in the NL in runs scored, so not only are they not anywhere near the worst, they are just out of the upper half.
  17. Byrnes is a decent player, but he's still just a .327/.454 hitter, and he's 31. His comparables are Casey Blake, Aaron Rowand, and Milton Bradley, all solid big leaguers, but none to get excited about. Geoff Jenkins, in a down year, did better than that last year, and his career of .349/.500 is far better. I'd much have Jenkins, Hall, and Hart than Eric, and I think you can argue Gross, given his cheapness. As a platoon guy, I can easily see Gabe giving you an 800 OPS. Byrnes is a fine example of a guy teams overpay for because he's a "proven" entity, and has had a nice start to 2007. He will very likely regress to his norms that are well established.
  18. I know from correspondence Adam frequents Ramblings, but I stole the link from Mass as well;)
  19. Byrnes isn't any better than 3-4 of the Crew's OF. Linebrink isn't going anywhere, SD is right in the race. Cordero is an option, but DC will get more than he's worth because he has mythical closer qualities. Dunn would be an FA after the year. Vargas or Bush would have a long list of suitors...they might be the 2nd or 3rd best SP to change teams at the deadline, but they aren't going anywhere.
  20. BCin04, South Beach is a low carb eating plan, somewhat similar to Atkins. Very limited bread, flour, sugar, and/or empty calories like beverages.
  21. He could be, if he can play SS in the bigs. Given that he came up as a 2B and now is playing some at SS, that's probably unlikely. 2B in the minors, as a rule, do not promote well to the bigs. Usually, they leave the better prospects at SS until AA or AAA, and then switch them. Weeks is an exception, but that's often the case. 2B is usually a spot where they put guys that have weaknesses (range, arm, speed) in the low minors, and few ever overcome them.
  22. Teams like SD and LA have no interest in trading any proven player. They are right in the hunt.
  23. Bernie might play for the Mets, Dodgers, Red Sox, or another big market, but the idea of him playing for the Crew or the Twins or another small market contender seems very unlikely. Good catch by Doc Wood on Mench's defense...nearly perfect, has held many runners to 1B on balls near the corner. Considering the plethora of posts over the offseason saying he was horrible, I'd say the opposite has been the case.
  24. I would also like to see a AAA middle infielder added for depth, as Crabbe and Barnwell are pretty unaweinspiring.
  25. I don't think horse meat is used in dog food anymore. I also believe Americans do not eat horse meat because it is discussed in the Bible, isn't it? It's actually funny, all over the world, people eat horses and dogs and don't think a thing of it, and here, it's just horrible to most. What's that old irony, that more than half the people in the world have never once talked on the phone? That may be down to 48% because cell phone towers are going up all over Africa, but it's still astounding that most of the world is so vastly different than the USA.
