  1. The "in" thing seems to be a no-trade clause for part of the contract, so you give him one until June of '09, or something like that, then he could name 5-10 teams he does not want to go to. Suppan has a restaurant in California, so he may not be a small town/city guy like I had hoped. It seems likely if he just takes the most $, it won't be from MIL.
  2. An 805 OPS from a corner OF? Any reason we shouldn't just keep Jenkins and platoon him?
  3. Suppan may not want to pitch in NYC, he's an Oklahoman by birth.
  4. Suppan has been the guy I would have chased from Day 1. He's not a stud, but he gives you 180+ innings annually. He's a guy that will rarely shut you down, but rarely get knocked out before the 6th. I'd go get him. He's worth more than Lilly & Meche, and since he's not a hard thrower, his decline should be minimal.
  5. JC would be a nice fit, without a doubt. Check the link. albethke.blogspot.com/2006_10_01_albethke_archive.html#116179038869082590
  6. I was disappointed in Clerks 2, but only because it made it painfully obvious he'll never come close to matching Clerks. Still a funny 90 minutes.
  7. Trachsel has a career 4.28 ERA. He'd be a very nice pickup, but I'd hate to give him over a year or two.
  8. Gross makes minimum, he's not going anywhere.
  9. They were obviously afraid he would accept arby...his arm is iffy at best. 1y/$7M was a real possibility in arby. We'll see where he ends up, but I think arby would have looked pretty darn good as of last week, when he had to accept.
  10. Cirillo did nicely in COL.
  11. Mench for Lopez if the O's do not sign Luis Gonzales.
  12. A comedian said once that some say life begins at conception, some say it begins at birth, and the other day, I saw a bumper sticker that says it begins at 40...who knows?
  13. That was far from preaching in the locker room, he just asked a visiting religious person an honest question.
  14. Doug is probably looking for a veteran "smart" pitcher who can post a 4.50 ERA next year. I doubt if he's too concerned whether Jon weighs 235 or 250.
  15. Bob Uecker and myself have always loved LaRoche due to his beautiful swing. I've always been a believer that an everyday player is far more valuable than a relief pitcher, so I have to favor the Pirates, though Mike G is a serviceable, solid reliever.
  16. He's still just 22, I think. Carlos can work on his 3rd and 4th pitches and have his pitch count controlled far better at AAA. Depth is good.
  17. Is 70 good innings worth more than 150-175 mediocre ones? I guess it's what you need.
  18. They basically had 7 starters last year on their opening day roster (though Kennedy didn't start any games). When Harden and Loaiza got hurt, they were able to turn to Saarloos and Halsey. Not great pitchers by any means, but the ability to be average is severely undervalued. That's exactly what I want, only Carlos V in AAA, Zach J in AAA, and maybe one guy in the bullpen at least kind of capable of being a 5-6 inning man for a start or two.
  19. Pat Gillick says no...unless he makes the White Sox trade first. You gotta learn how to read Doug. He often says things like, "I've never even talked to the Dodgers"...but will not say "No one in the organization has talked to the Dodgers". Doug is always truthful, but is also very deceitful.
  20. Anyone else having trouble with Rotoworld? Every link takes me to the same page, as does every story on said page.
  21. Lieber is older than Hendrickson, but unless you just look at 2006, he is in no way better. It's tough to judge what Lieber will do in the future, as he's thrown about 2000 innings and could break down, but he's a stud compared to Mark H.
  22. For the first time ever, I can say I wouldn't miss a single player if they were chosen. Bray would be my most feared loss, but hardly noteworthy. There are dozens of Brays available right now as minor league FA's.
  23. Probably just a "utility" thing, but Vinny R will be playing most everyday at N-ville.
  24. I smell a girl:). Best of luck Toby.
  25. There is something about hot stove action, as even my tiny little weblog's visitor count is up about 60% from a few weeks ago. The only time it's ever been higher is April/May of '06.
