  1. They'll wait until July, I would guess. They actually have about 7 possible guys, so they have some depth, but they'd look a lot better with one more guy.
  2. Ajay, he was discussed a while back, veteran AA guy. I would assume AAA depth.
  3. How does Wright get a minor league deal and Ortiz $3M?
  4. For the record Reed, I've never even disliked you, never mind hated you. Back when I was a mod, I did edit some posts that ripped on Clancy, and told the folks to take it easy. I believe they all wrote back and said they were probably over the line, and said they would stop (there was only 2 or maybe 3). Geno has spoken in defense of Clancy a few times as well, and I agree. But, as noted by the mods who have participated, even if a warning is given, they leave the post. I think you did hit on the issue better than i did though, some teasing and name calling is fine, and some is not. I have never noticed any stricter monitoring of that against Brian, but if it is deleted quickly, maybe I wouldn't see it anyway. The "line" is very tough to see, or at times, totally invisible. If we feel that way, I'm sure many others do too.
  5. Helton has always hot outside of Coors as well, I think he has plenty of value. However, given Geoff has one year left at market value or less, I see no reason to move him.
  6. In most cases, a close projection can be achieved by looking at 3 year averages, then adding or taking away a bit based on age. In Rickie's case, or any youngster's, that doesn't give him full credit for his expected improvement.
  7. That's odd, considering how rarely Freddy walks. I'd say '06 is very likely to be his best season.
  8. And Luther leapfrogs Spurling as the sleeper pick to make the 25 man.
  9. Peavey, again, that's almost the exact opposite of what I was told by another mod a while back. Anything that "puts down" another will be removed ASAP, with a warning sent to them, to paraphrase. This was in a general discussion about things, not a post I had written.
  10. I think that as a general rule, we really, really, really, really don't want to delete posts. Again, that's fine, but I have been told that name-calling is completely unacceptable. If it remains, it's acceptable. The problem to me is it remains a fraction of the time. Again, I understand there is a line to be walked, but when one person calls another a name for (sigh) disagreeing with his opinion, and it does not get removed, the line is about as blurred as it can be. As I said, one poster formerly here used to mock and tease with nearly every post, and was never touched, to my knowledge.
  11. Projections are just math with some guessing involved, especially on young guys like Rickie.
  12. Pogo, I know it's a close call at times, but as I said, some name calling is acceptable, some making fun of others' sites is OK...and some is not. One mod told me he had deleted a post of mine due to the "tone" of it, and in that long post on Davis' arm, someone takes several posters to task numerous times, and they remain. I asked how "tone" could be described, and I never got a reply, by the way. EDIT: Misspelling.
  13. To be blunt, what you can and cannot say is extremely inconsistent. I've been called a tool and a robot, and no one deleted those posts. Some get away with much more than others as well, including one dear friend who repeatedly ripped others, who recently penned a "so long" post. I've asked 3-4 mods the same question, and got opposite answers. Religion and politics can be brought up as well, but if it goes that way, it will be locked eventually.
  14. Pogo, I paid with my Paypal also, and mine never showed up on the list, but Brian said he got it. I take it most people don't just leave their money in PP when they have some in there like we do.
  15. Hopefully, Dennis is resting his arm, but I doubt if his actual pitching since the MLB season ended was more than 25 innings. If he were pitching 7 innings every 5th day, I'd feel differently.
  16. I'll take Throwing Away Your Future for $400, Alex.
  17. Mine was 10/6/06, just wanted to make sure you got it.
  18. To be honest, if everyone is healthy, it makes a lot of sense to send Sarfate (or whoever else has options) down and keep someone who doesn't...until someone is ineffective or injured.
  19. Brian, I donated something (cannot remember how much, maybe Paypal has a history) last year, and I don't show up...does that only include money during the pledge period?
  20. Yep, let's trade away our rotation depth and then wonder why we have 25% of our games being started by 6th, 7th, and 8th starters. Who would Rocco replace, Jenkins? I can't imagine that being much of an upgrade offensively at all, not to mention Baldelli is rarely healthy. To answer my own question, using Pecota: Rocco---.299/.342/.501, 103 simple runs created Geoff---..268/.343/.452, 93 src There are some minor glitches here, as Jenkins should be platooned, but improving your offense by 10 runs or keeping a SP that will probably start 20-25 games in the majors...that's an easy call for me.
  21. Not nearly as nice as the Koonce signing, but they needed a veteran 1B at AAA, and that certainly matches. Heaven forbid, if Prince goes down, Abad could be looked at as a PH in MIL.
  22. Hard to imagine anyone being much more special than Braun...drafted less than 2 years ago.
  23. Thank You For Smoking...I was pretty disappointed, I've been looking forward to seeing it on DVD since it came out in theaters. Just not that funny. Actually, the only real funny thing, which was cute repeatedly mind you, was the way he'd use doublespeak and go around the subject so that it came back to liberty and the freedom to smoke. It was mildly funny,. just not the laugh riot I expected. By the way, how did Katie Holmes, a simply spectacularly beautiful young woman, marry such a complete idiot?
  24. Corey would probably be the long-term reserve at 1B, Tony G short-term.
  25. As always, the minute we get some SP depth, people try to trade it away. I wouldn't dream of dealing CV or Hall.
