  1. It's a lot easier to field a team with a scorer or two than it is 5-7 scorers. Take a look at expansion teams rosters over the years, they are loaded with defenders, rebounders, and such...15+ point guys are few and far between.
  2. If you're going to trade someone, trade Hardy who will cost $8M and has a replacement. McGehee will cost $500K and is a nice bench player or starter. To me, those are the guys you happily keep a few years.
  3. In my head, I see Hart getting $5-6M next year and $8M or so in '11. It seems to me that if they have to deal Carl to save $, they would not want to replace him with a guy making that much, they'd use Joyce, who they already own, or a pre-arby guy.
  4. McGehee is too valuable as depth. What Ry said is perfect, and hopefully, Counsell will be the other backup.
  5. Yo Manny Suppan Bush Those 4 are almost certainly part of the '10 rotation. Considering they'll target a nearly ready SP for Hardy, guys like Justin D make sense, as he could easily shift to the bullpen.
  6. Isn't Bartlett an all-star? TB would have no use for Hardy. Hart will make an awful lot next year, as the only reason TB has to move Crawford is payroll.
  7. Escobar compares very nicely with other 22 year-old SS's in AAA, or what they did when they were in AAA at 22. He's getting better every year, as his walk rate keeps improving despite better pitching, and he'll continue to add power as he matures. He won't be a #1 or #2 hitter right away, but he should be in a couple years.
  8. At a game earlier this year, someone asked who Todd Coffey was, and their companion told them the Brewers got him over the winter when they traded away Sheets. The first person paused, and then said, "I thought we got McGehee (which they pronounced Mac-gee-hee) for Sheets". They took their seats in the 4th, and left in the 7th.
  9. Nowhere near 90% of fans know Escobar and Gamel...I'd say 20-25% is closer.
  10. Link I assume it is some math nerd equation, using past history, park factors, and such. The one criticism of it is there should probably be some sort of age adjustment, as a guy like Vinny Rottino may have better stats than a guy like Salome, because of his AAA experience, but not fare any better in the bigs. However, it is not really designed to be used for projections, but rather as a tool to compare players in different ballparks, levels, and the like.
  11. Gindl and Lawrie are what, 19 or 20? They are far from ready for the show, and the numbers show it. Lucroy is several years older, and only at AA, and looks like he'll have to repeat it, based on his struggles. Many of the guys mentioned, Dennis and the like, are fringe prospects, at best. MLE is major league equivalent, they translate team and league to MLB. Most players are not very impressive...which makes sense, because most minor leaguers never see the bigs. Salome has finally hit a bit of a wall at AAA, but has done better as the season progressed, exactly what you hope to see from a youngster, especially one as young as Salome is for his level. Actually, if you remove his April, he's done about as expected. Not sure if he may have still had back issues, had trouble seeing guys able to throw breaking stuff for a strike, or what, but he's right back on target to be an above average offensive MLB C...if his defense allows him to catch at that level. For example, minus April, he's .300/.377, with April, Salome is .286/.340...the standard for catchers is so low, 677 OPS is not far below average, and he's improving.
  12. PA, if she knows anyone in the Wausau area, shoot me a PM.
  13. LA probably wanted Rottino for AAA because Martin was on his way to SD for Bell/Gonzalez, which fell through.
  14. LA probably wanted Rottino for AAA because Martin was on his way to SD for Bell/Gonzalez, which fell through.
  15. Haret's played there, and he'd be ok, but quite a step down from Cameron...though that might be the case regardless.
  16. Some combo platter of Gerut with a RH platoon guy (like Kapler) makes a lot of sense. Who knows, maybe they'll get a young CF who's blocked along with a young arm for Hardy.
  17. Lucroy's 23, in AA, and has mle's of .207/.304/.310...needless to say, a comparison to any starting MLB catcher is very optimistic at this point. He still profiles as a backup at best, and since I haven't heard he's Blanco-like defensively, that might be close to his ceiling. Compare his AA numbers to a younger Salome last year...scary.
  18. I was the lucky winner, and thank Logan for his generosity.
  19. Dillard is a different pitcher than he was last year, and it's embarrassing. He's striking out no one in AAA, and has nothing to get major leaguers out. He'll be in indy ball next year if he doesn't get it worked out. Bosio has to realize this, I can't believe his lack of velocity and stuff compared to 365 days ago. You can get Brad Nelson out that way, but not Prince.
  20. They were lacking the second tier talent, especially pitchers. The White Sox traded 4 pitchers for Peavy, and every single one is a better than any in the system. The kids in the minors are probably still middle of the pack, but that lack of AA/AAA arms is very costly when teams want big league ready pitchers. Unless you have Brewers tinted glasses, it's easy to see.
  21. How would I decide on a "good" chiropractor? FYI, he has been to a ear/nose/throat guy, who found nothing. He only suggested my wife and I be checked to see if we were "silent carriers", having the strep germ and not the symptoms. We weren't. Thank you for having your sister write that, PA, appreciate it. I will continue to look into both sides. As she stated, just waiting for him to get sick and throwing Amoxicillin in him seems a bit 1960's to me. Being proactive makes sense.
  22. Bailey is 23, throws hard, and has had success in AAA. He's also been rushed by Cincy, so he'll probably take a little longer. He might never be the ace he was projected to be, but he'll be in the bigs for a while.
  23. Bobskube, who was it in June? Who would have been given up?
  24. FTJ, I'm a little curious as to why you think it would be cruel to take a 7 year-old to a chiro...I've never been to one, but I cannot believe they are scary...painful perhaps? Thanks to the others, I do not think he'd go for acupuncture, as he feels fine as soon as his antibiotics begin, so he has no incentive to accept a bunch of needles.
  25. Someone mentioned him earlier this year. He's a low ceiling guy, but admittedly, he's probably far better than Cody or Burns. At this point, I'd probably go with CV and Dillard, and play some roster games with Burns and others if they pitch in relief. For example, if CV goes Sat, and goes 3.1, Burns backs him up, and goes 2.2, then Burns goes back down, to allow for a replacement for Sunday.
