  1. Both Parra and Yo have been handled with kid gloves. My goodness, take a look at pitch counts around the league. 125-130 is very common, and I think Yo's hit it once. Manny wastes about 20 pitches a game with balls in the dirt and at eye level, so his counts are naturally going to be higher, but he's been so bad much of the year, there's no concern about his numbers.
  2. Very high percentage that Colby is right.
  3. Wow, considering a manger's influence is likely a game or two a season, that has to be one of the more inventive statements I've seen in a while. The team has been outscored for the season. They are lucky to be where they are.
  4. Drabek, Happ, and Dom Brown sounds like it may be the final deal. Drabek and Happ are two tremendous young pitchers for TOR to control for ages. Halladay will be hard pressed to have a lower ERA than Happ has had, actually. Halladay does make the Phillies the favorite in a 5 or 7 game series though. The playoffs are really where Roy helps a club immensely.
  5. Danzig, you can find pet beds for $5-10 all the time, Walgreens often has 'em on sale. Many people simply cannot afford $2500 on a pet, so the issue is moot for many. My aunt worked at an animal hospital in Milwaukee for years and brought home many dogs and pets whose owners simply gave them up, due to no $. We were told our dog had a luxating patella when we got him, and luckily, it has not worsened to need the $600-1200 surgery on one or both...that rarely works for over a year (as I visit people daily, it's amazing how many have had it done, and also how it almost always has slipped back out within 18 months...almost 100%. Basically, it's the same as a ballplayer...Tyson is probably not going to be healthy in his older years, as he's not healthy in his puppy time. Some will be the exception, but history should not be ignored. We love our Ronnie as much as we can, but he's 13 and showing many signs of aging, just in the past few months. No way we're going spend $1K to give him a few more months of sleeping 23 hours a day and not being able to do much else. Now, if we had $800K in the bank, we'd spend a lot more than $1K.
  6. The WSSP guys mentioned him to Doug, but Doug said, while he could not discuss names, many times a #3 SP on a bad team would make a nice #5 SP for ya, but that team hates to give up their #3, so they ask a ton. Bannister would make a nice addition, but as of this second, not a single SP has been moved, have they? Until the market starts being set, teams can ask for whatever they wish, knowing tomorrow, someone may just give in.
  7. For example, Dunn in RF and the Braves have a leadoff double/triple. Add up those bases over 65 games, and it seems likely a dozen runs or so would add up, even if Adam only played 7-8 frames in RF a night.
  8. Wallace may outhit Gamel a bit, but if Mat stays at 3B, I'd prefer him of the 3.
  9. Any runs Dunn gives you his glove will take away. If he'd be brought in in the offseason to play LF with Braun moving to RF, I could possibly get on board, but his defense in RF would be as bad as it gets.
  10. End is correct, why do you need a utility INF that can hit? If a utility INF can hit, they aren't a utility INF anymore. Hall hits LHP and plays good defense. He can hit a double or HR off the bench. He's far overpaid for what he is, but to think other teams have quality in this roster spot is odd...take a gander at the Twins and Royals infield reserves sometime.
  11. Penny may well be worth 10+ runs over Burns/whoever else is #5. Last year, the Crew won the wildcard by a single game, and this year, 4 teams are 2 games apart in the NL Central. A win is a win, and it could mean the difference between staying home and making the playoffs. I only have Halladay as about 2 wins better than Parra the rest of the way (which is a ton mind you, in 2 months), and that's projecting Roy with a 2.50 ERA. One player does not make you 5 games better with 60 games left, even if you replace some weak hitting OF with Babe Ruth.
  12. Most AAA pitchers are well below average...that's the whole idea of the minors. A proven vet who can be expected to have a 4.50 ERA is better than all but the very best AAA pitchers. If you want to go with Cody, compare his AAA stats to Burns. Then, remember his lack of velocity...Burns hits 89 consistently, and tops out at 90-91.
  13. A 2-1 K/BB ratio and 5.3 K/9 in St. Paul makes you wonder about Kintzler. Unless he's a pure sinkerballer, he's filler and filler only.
  14. Baez is very limited, he can't go consecutive days after surgery.
  15. Hopeless? PIT has 4-5 fewer wins than the Brewers. They've done a near brilliant job of rebuilding while getting younger. They're probably just a year away.
  16. Penny has a 5 ERA this year, which in the NL should be a 4.50, so he's a minor step up from Burns. Cody is an unknown, and will be treated as such.
  17. As Doug said, they may need to add a reliever because they need the 'pen for 3-4 innings every night.
  18. Peavy is injured and owed $50M...I don't expect a line to form, to say the least.
  19. He hasn't pitched at all this year, right? No minors, no majors? He might be ready in a few weeks, but until then...
  20. Fight? A pitcher almost breaks into tears after being hit on his non-pitching arm, and doesn't know what to do, so Kendall tells him to go to 1B. It isn't worthy of being mentioned, as nothing happened. Stan Kyles was even carrying his clipboard, after walking leisurely in, ready to make a notation. A fight would indicate, you know, someone actually getting into a fight, not a bunch of milling around and discussing dinner plans.
  21. I just recapped it over at Ramblings, you can click on the link below. Doug hints that no SP's are moving because teams are asking way too much. Casey "may need surgery", by the way. His reasoning behind looking for a reliever is just what I said a few days ago...as is, they need to cover 3-4 innings most every night, and they have to watch the workload of the current bullpen guys. Between the lines, the guys who have pitched the most, CV and McClung, are the two currently struggling (my words, not Doug's)
  22. Any rumor involving Sonny Weems is likely true, since he's a total unknown, having played in the D-League and being a 2nd round pick.
  23. I sure wish the Crew had some crappy top 30 in the game prospects like Martinez...20 years old, 800 OPS... in AAA! That'd be sweet.
  24. Barnell is a solid young middle reliever in the bigs, and Tejada is a 19 y/o middle IF who has put up a couple of .400 OBP seasons in his young career. Add that to a pair of top 100 prospects, and that's not a bad haul at all. It shows what they want, top kids, cheap kids, and high ceiling kids. Gamel or Escobar, Lawrie, and 2 more youngsters with high potential is exactly what they want....veterans and low ceiling guys need not apply.
  25. Money plays who he is told to play. Prospects get the AB's, then the others. Heether has done nicely, butis still not considered much more than filler, a potential reserve. He's 27, he's noit going to get better.
