  1. Lawrie might well be one of the A ballers. Might well see a promotion soon, as I think they go by where a player is on 7/31 or 8/1.
  2. Yeah, I think it's safe to say no one wants a youngster like Salome risking further injury by playing meaningless AAA games when he's hurt. As good as he's been since May 1st, it's been pretty much overlooked, due to his slow start. If he needs some reps, he can always go to the AFL. Didn't Escobar have a child with the woman who hearsayed him last winter? If he's a dad with Woman B, she was old news last October. Hopefully, he'll have a healthy little kid and be back soon.
  3. I guess I watch the Crew too much...I've seen that a minimum of a dozen times, probably 20-25.
  4. PIT has got the 23 kids all since last summer. The new regime has only been in place since then.
  5. Like many in my age group, I grew up at a time when many believed chiropractors were either fake or "adjusted" injuries just enough to require 2-3 visits a week. I have never gone to one, but have never had the need either. My son has had strep throat 3 times this year, just got over pneumonia, and has had allergies often his entire life. Has anyone had success with any form of alternative medical provider? I talk to many seniors each day, and they often tell me they've had luck with sinus infections, and other illnesses you would not usually associate with a chiropractor, including ear infections, sore throats, and the like.
  6. My parents always paid my tuition (of course, back then, it was like 3 shiny rocks per semester), but I worked 35-75 hours a week to pay rent and the other bills. One year, my roommate applied and got several thousand in grants for the year, so he suggested I do the same. I was told I made too much money, and only qualified for loans. You can make your own judgments about the system.
  7. PIT has acquired 23 prospects, an entire team. They have traded a couple good big leaguers, but mostly role players, and have not worsened themselves a bit. They look to be a force in a year or two.
  8. I am not current, but I am all but positive the answers to 1 & 2 are yes, and at regular price. As for 3, they seem to fill the fan's choice 20's after the others, so Opening Day is unlikely.
  9. Well, SF would be happy to take Hall if the Crew took Zito monstrosity off their hands. With 5y/$93M left, that's still the worst contract in the game. Given Hall's owed $9M after this year, SF would have to throw in about $50-60M for me to have an iota of interest.
  10. The Reds should deal both, as they need to retool, however, many teams (KC comes to mind) are always afraid to rebuild the right way, as they always chase that 70th win.
  11. I'm sure he meant CV would get the next 2 starts. Hard to keep it all straight when you're an "insider".
  12. Escobar and CV for Morrow, Washburn, and a top pitching prospect, in AA/AAA, seems to me to be a bit of an alternative, but no rumor has even mentioned that, so I am not sure what to think. I love Mark A, but I get the feeling he underrates how much 6 years (4 really cheap) of Alcides is worth, and tried to work out a deal, but they cannot find a match. I would kick the tires on Harang, Garland, and so on. To me, Escobar, Gamel, and Lawrie would be untouchables, with Salome close, unless they've decided he'll never catch in the bigs, which is not what Money has stated. His numbers since May are outstanding.
  13. Harang for Hall plus a prospect would be "fair", but the Reds might just be asking for the moon due to the price of pitching right now.
  14. Very unlikely he returns, as they have a plethora of INF's, and Felipe will cost way more than a bench guy. I hope they can do a "handshake" deal so Felipe promises not to accept arby, as a $5M deal may be as good as he gets offered, depending on the market.
  15. A scout compared Escobar to Jeter the other day, and I looked at the numbers here. I think lots of folks fail to comprehend how good Alcides is doing offensively for a 22 year-old in his first year of AAA. I doubt he'll hit 15 homers a year like Derek, but I would not be at all surprised with 60 XBH in 2-3 years, to go along with stellar defense.
  16. Hardy and a prospect might interest SEA, though I doubt Safeco is JJ friendly.
  17. Mike claims he took a tainted supplement.
  18. Kazmir is why you don't sign young pitchers long-term.
  19. Linebrink wasn't bad for us either. I've said it many times, but I would have happily signed him to be the closer for the money he got from the Sox.
  20. Washburn just might be pitching better this year...his secondary stats indicate he is, and his ERA in the AL is under 3. That's a solid arm for the stretch drive, supposedly, he's the Yankees top target.
  21. Perfect example of buying low...had two good years, then has struggled in '09. He'll probably come up 9/1, likely more of a move with '10 in mind.
  22. I mentioned that at Ramblings, Escobar off the table for Hallday, but on for Jarrod seems backwards. I'd guess a pair of top 10 guys and a "sleeper" like Rogers.
  23. Good investigative work Joe. What you'll find is simple..good pitchers have high pitch counts. Yo's good, hence... I'm much more concerned about repetitive 120+ pitch outings. Those should be rare, and they have been.
  24. As pointed out, they're right in it, and they'll probably sell 3M tickets again. They will not be sellers in July.
  25. SEA has offered MIL a package of Morrow and Washburn per Geoff Young of the Seattle Times. Jarrod's ERA is below 3, right about where Halladay's is.
