  1. Mariners have an all-time .470 winning pct vs a .481 for Milwaukee. That means Mariners, on average, go 76-86, Brewers 78-84. Mariners have a four-season stretch where they went an average of 98-64, 14 winning seasons out of 43, compared to Brewers 17 of 51, they have five hall-of-famers largely associated with their franchise (possibly 2 more with Ichiro and King Felix). I wouldn't in any way say that Milwaukee has had "significantly" more success, unless you are weighing recent results more heavily.
  2. But he's a highly successful football coach. Beautiful passive-aggressive quote from MM last night: "most importantly, I didn't coach very well. I have a continuing issue with ball security on my football team." My wife couldn't have said it better. I give him bonus points for use of the word "football" to describe his team, so we know which team he is talking about. And as far as ball security, you ALWAYS hear rookies say that the hardest adjustment to pro ball is that they aren't allowed to fumble the ball on every play. I guess without a proper training camp, MM was unable to teach that part.
  3. Fairbanks pitching is giving me axford flashbacks
  4. Never wear a toupee that you get free with an oil change. That thing is awful.
  5. Arozarena is good. The fact that he is not doing this for the Cardinals makes it even better.
  6. I don't think it's a formula. I think that the three outcomes aren't compared to each other, but to historical outcomes. They posted three outcomes that showed: 1. Historically, a team that has the ball, up by 5, with a 4th and 1 with two minutes left, wins the game 94% of the time. 2. Then, they are saying, historically, a team up by 8, playing defense, with two minutes left, wins the game 94% of the time as well. 3. Third, a team up by 5, playing defense, with two minutes left, wins the game 79% of the time. Not sure if field position plays into it. It's a statement about each situation against historical averages. I think it's a little dishonest of them to say that the percentage drops by 15% if they do one action over the other. It took the "Stopped" outcome, and assumed that Seattle had the ball with two minutes left and a 5pt deficit, then says, in that situation, the Vikings had a 79% chance of winning the game. Using historical outcomes to predict future. If I flip a coin 8 times, and it comes up heads every time, the chance of the next flip is still 50/50, even if I think tails are "due." The first 8 flips have nothing to do with the ninth. Let's face it, probability aside, the Vikings chances of winning dropped from 79% to 0.0% when they missed on the 4th and 1. Probability doesn't take into account that it's still the Vikings.
  7. Until he got Jerry Springer to GIDP.
  8. MM can cadillac his home runs & flip hits bat, but if someone else celebrates their success it is some huge affront? For an alpha male with hundreds of millions in future guaranteed income, guy sure is fragile. Almost kinda pulling for the Astros at this point. Now that the Marlins are out of it, a 29-31 WS champion is probably thee most "2020" of the remaining possibilities. Anyone but Astros for me. Don't want to legitimize their cheating by allowing people to say, "see, they were good enough to win anyway." Yes, I'm petty. Still salty that there were no repercussions to the players for what happened. Also, I will never understand why pitchers can celebrate strikeouts, but batters get hit for watching a home run.
  9. Personally, I liked his enthusiasm on strike-outs and energy behind the plate. But I'm guessing that isn't what you are referring to... I think she has more interest in him as a pitcher than a catcher.
  10. I have a friend who is a lifelong Pirates' fan. I texted him today, saying that Tyler Glasnow and Austin Meadows sure look like good players, and that if a team were to trade two can't-miss guys like that, they would probably get a great return back. He told me to **** off! Cannot imagine why.
  11. This story is on the side of anecdotal, but there may have been a change in how pitchers are treated: Phillies starter Jeremy Hellickson offered another explanation for pitchers having trouble bunting. "Guys don't just feed you a heater to let you get the bunt down anymore," Hellickson said. "It's changed since I've come into the league. We try to strike a guy out instead of giving him a pitch to bunt."
  12. It's really hard to bunt a 95+ mph pitch. Having said that, baseball in 2020 is really challenging my fandom. 4+ hours of Three True Outcome baseball is not fun.
  13. C’mon Davies. This is awful.
