  1. Thanks, man. But I don't understand what this means. ELI5.
  2. Using last year's team as the baseline is building on sand, in my opinion. They were sixteenth in HR last year, and hitting the same number this year (essentially, with Bauers removed), will still be sixteenth. The OBP model is great for the 162-game season, but I think that we have seen that HRs win in the playoffs, where it is more difficult to string together hits. I've been on this theme for a while now. They were 10th among playoff teams in home runs, and I think that is the group that the Brewers should be compared against. And, Willy Adames hit 13 3-run home runs. That is an anomaly that probably wasn't going to be duplicated, even if Willy was still on the team. Anyone have an easy way to find out what their record was when Willy hit a 3-run homer? Also, adding up all that WAR in the table above comes out to 22.8. The top 18 hitters last year combined for 27 WAR. Any concerns about that drop? I realize that your premise was to discuss home runs and power, but it's all reflected in the WAR totals above. Final question: what was the Steamer projection last year in the preseason? I would be curious to see projection vs reality for last year's team. I am on Team Find More Power.
  3. I agree with this. Averaged 6 innings a start, that’s so valuable for how the Brewers win.
  4. If Cortes can give them 30 starts and 174 innings (5.2 avg) like last year, I'm on board. Brewers starters just seem to be needed to keep the team in the game. If Cortes pitches six and gives up three runs, the Brewers are still in the game. I wish that the Brewers had more pop. Durbin may be a nice player, but doesn't help their power shortage, especially with Adames and his three-run homers gone. MKE was 16th in MLB in homers, 10th among playoff teams. They work so hard to get runs. Game one of 2023 playoffs, it took the Brewers two innings, 12 batters, 45 pitches, a walk, four singles, a sacrifice and a Taylor homer to score three times. 14 pitches and four batters later, the Dbacks had the game tied 3-3 on two homers.
  5. Is there actually any noise about Lux, or does this site keep bringing him up because he is from Wisconsin?
  6. Maybe he feels with Rendon on the team, he will never be criticized as long as he gets over that very low bar of performance. With Rendon playing his usual 30 games, Arenado can play the other 130, and they can count as one roster spot. The Angels can say they have a $70 million salary on the books, just like the Dodgers, only at third base. Call him Rendonado.
  7. Really not liking all the devil talk in this thread. @Fear The Chorizo: Suggesting the Vikings as a possible Super Bowl team? @adambr2: Suggesting you could "almost prefer" a Packer loss to the Vikings? You are ruining my Christmas spirit. Friends don't let friends imagine good things for the Vikings. Next you are gonna tell me that you like that stupid horn they blow at their stadium.
  8. Gonzaga has had four #1 seeds in the last 7 tournaments, despite coming out of a lower-ranked conference. I think that if Marquette takes care of business, they can easily be a #1.
  9. I hate the analogy of getting "in field goal range." I want touchdowns! I know, I'm overthinking it.
  10. Besides, if Packers play the Lions in the playoffs, we get to be told that it’s hard to beat a team three times in a year.
  11. I'm expecting Woodruff to return to dominant form as a top of the rotation starter, shutting out the Yankees on Opening Day, only to suffer a season-ending injury in a freak collision with Polish during the home opener Sausage Race.
  12. Parra always seemed like a million-dollar arm with a ten-cent head.
  13. Kind of off-topic, I’ll admit, but I am not envious of all of Baltimore’s young talent, nor how they built their team. They put their fans through hell. 115 (!), 110, 108 losses in a season. So far they have an 0-5 playoff record the last two years to show for it. Glad I got to cheer for a competitive team the last decade.
  14. Two-platoon baseball.
  15. You're right. They won a lot of playoff games with Gantner. I forgot.
  16. 24 seniors, six transfers so far. That's 30. Only five more to get to 1/3. They will blow past that number.
  17. Why wait? I'll start. He just doesn't have enough pop for a corner infield spot, gold glove or not.
  18. Put big targets in the outfield. If a home run hits the target, it's worth a grand slam, and free ice cream for an inning. Allow a pitcher one do-over a game. Game-winning home run? Not so fast! Designated Goon. Once a game you can put in a maniac to just destroy the second baseman on a double-play, charge the mound on an inside pitch, or level the catcher. Multi-ball. Bases loaded. Like pinball, you can put three balls in play, shot out of a cannon, for the fielders to chase. Runners can keep going till they all score or get tagged out. Allow slower runners to have bigger sliding gloves. Turang? No glove. Gary Sanchez? 8-foot paddle attached to his arm. Why should the fast guys get all the stolen bases?
  19. Yeah? Well, that’s just uh, like your opinion, man.
  20. My goodness, that sounds awful.
  21. Which of those is Alvarez? And are you counting Bielema as a Wis Guy?
  22. Didn’t take 30, but nice call anyway.
  23. They have always spoken highly of you when I’ve talked to them.
  24. Pet peeve of mine, and it's not directed at you, Jim FS. OF COURSE a lot of these guys played quarterback in high school. You have an obviously superior athlete, put the ball in his hands. Every time a wide receiver throws a pass--"He played quarterback in high school!" Really? I'm some math teacher who coaches football on the side, and I got a kid with good hands who runs a 4.4? I think he just took a lot of my coaching decisions away. He's playing QB. But, there's a reason they don't play QB any more. They weren't good enough to stay at the position. Well, unless you are on the Badgers, apparently.
  25. As soon as I typed that, Miami went to the “refs won’t call them all” defense
