  1. If he's actively looking for flawed bargains that his people feel they can subtly alter and turn into gems... well then this is next level genius. So many years of watching everyone else fix our pitchers who moved on from mke... if they can reverse that with this group... well basically that changes everything. If they see a way he can alter something minor or alter pitch selection vs lh batters and that takes lh down a solid notch you could see this guy be a hell of a steal. You could see low 3s. If he's that we are going to be hoping this guy has a 3rd year team option at 8. Went from liking this move to loving this move. 3 down 2 to go. Woodruff could be 1.
  2. 26 and 27 were lost years. 28 was not pretty but showed some progress. 29 was trending back towards his normal self. He put up 650 ip while being a rockie and held a sub 1 hr/9. Yeah petco saved him? Dudes a lot like Davies. Junk ball soft contact sub 4 era innings eater. 2 years at 8 mil is just fine because davies is going to get more than that from someone. Also like Davies he's going to have some days where he just doesn't have it and gets torched bad and fast. I'm actually quite ok with that. Get rocked in 6 and qs 26. 80% chance to win. I wanted a rotation built of 5 guys who pitch sub 4 era and a pen that closes the door. Dont see why chacin at 8/2 doesn't add a guy who does exactly that. Currently asking a lot of Woodruff and Suter at this point but 3 is better than 2 and in reality we are waiting for nelson and burnes (and ponce). Clearly the pen isn't there yet either but I have hopes for williams houser and Fperalta to fix that. This is a solid add. Has a lot of Charlie Morton deal potential to it.
  3. He's a big strong downward plane Zach Davies results (not style) starter. Better stuff, still doesn't wow but control durability play at the mlb level. 200 ip sub 4 era. Feel like he's going to sharpen one of his 3 offspeed offerings and further learn how to use them. Not calling him an ace to TOR but he's 23 in AA and I expect him to jump from teen-early 20s prospect to clear member of the rotation. That's breakout.
  4. Breakout - Ponce... Burnes will not be the only farm hand starting in MKE down the stretch. Pitch use and pitches in general sharpen and he flies to the bigs. Sub 2.75 era in minors. Passes Woodruff in the eyes of mke fans along the way. Also like Lutz & Webb. Kodi fits here, bounce back and sleeper as well. His drop in the post season poll was probably due to my no ballot. I think he goes loogey though. Bounce back - Diaz... And you can pick a few other A+ guys too. OPS north of 900 ends the season as the undisputed #1 prospect in the system. Hope Bickford and Houser work here as well. Sleeper - Cam Roegner... closed last season very strong. Huge lefty, late bloomer, comes together for the entire year and hits top 30 although old for carolina where he ends the year. Starts 2018 in AA. Like Garcia as well. Webb fits here too despite his high draft slot. Bust - Diplan out of the top 30 everywhere by years end.
  5. Pitching. Give them the output even the Brewers got in that department and they’re probably a playoff team a year ago. And they tragically lost their cy young level ace which didn't help.
  6. Yelich Santana Shaw Braun Thames/Aguilar Realmuto is flat out disgusting. 2b bats 9th. You add 2 starters and 1 rlp tomorrow if you make that trade. Puts the team in the playoffs for the next 3 years. At least its nice to know we have the ammo needed to get yelich realmuto barraclaugh duffy merrifield herrera sign Arrieta. No farm and capped but... Yelich santana shaw braun thames/aguilar realmuto merrifield arcia P Arrieta anderson duffy davies woodruff Knebel hader barraclaugh herrerra jeffress barnes suter Would be crazy fun while it lasted.
  7. Scouting Im sure we do that plenty as is. Ont bonus is capped now right? If we operate at a profit taxes eat a chunk of that so you cant war chest as easy as you'd like. Do you really think we are going to pair 60 mil years with tax threshold years? I don't. Every trade some guys nice enough to do the prospect value vs player value to find what the trade should take. Id imagine we should get 2 top 10 prospects for eating 40 mil. I think thats roughly 25 mil for 40. In our shoes I dont see how thats a bad move. Just say ok window opens in 2020... 2 more pieces of ammo or future. If they'd send us a few scraps... enjoy your mlb taxes if you sign anyone. Thing is we wont get darvish or harper so make something on the transaction any way you can.
  8. I would just release Kemp and take the prospects. This is my take. Eating 40 mil. Wonder what it gets you prospect wise. If that gets 3 top 10... 30mil value... cool if not. Keep him. Ruiz White Lux or pass.
  9. So we all know basketball does it. Nfl jumped onboard with the oswiler trade this year. Stearns stated we have buying power. We haven't bought anything. Would LA pay us in prospects for eating Kemp? Is that a viable idea?
  10. Can we just eat kemp and get paid in prospects for doing so. I'll throw in drake. We got buying power, remember?
  11. Yeah I'm officially annoyed that we've done nothing. No rule 5. No adds (i don't count yo) no traded out talent and random prospects to look into. Not even broxton for fliers. Nadda. Don't want or need a blockbuster trade that empties our farm or something drastic. Just something that isn't a "camp body." Instead we are sitting on our new carter or scooter in broxton/villar/perez and nobody wants them either. Just soo boring.
  12. I'll be happy to be wrong but the more I think about this the more I'd rather hand the spot to jungemann or wilkerson and see what they got. By all accounts this dude is, upwards of 95% likelihood, toast. Feels like a ham sandwich to the casual fans while being milone again.
  13. So we got our Peralta Espino Guerra #5 replacement. 100% likely... crew aren't going to do much this offseason so the casual fans just got a name they remember cuz we got him for peanuts. Warm fuzzies. Meh signing. I don't see why his last two years were a mirage. Bridge to Burnes? No faith in Jungeman or Wilkerson? Suter or hader in the rotation?
  14. Strongly agree. Load up with a bunch of guys in the farm system that throw 98+. Thornburg alone brought back tremendous value. I don't know this for sure but it seems like you can still get unproven, high ceiling bullpen arms without giving up too much. It's like their value increases exponentially compared to starters and position players. Well this is where I'm actually getting to at this point. The "sure" bullpen upgrades are starting to wear thin. If we dont land a guy who should be penciled in as our set up man I really dont care to add any "cheap gambles." Reason being... swarzak. We got him for a song at the deadline. He was good, but no one would offer crap for him because he was a fa and his success was short lived. We could sign jj hoover watch him have a good year and that's all we get from it. We could watch him suck and waste whatever we pay him. At this point we should be after an 8th inning caliber add or hand that opportunity to houser and williams because if they are good for 2 years we either found something for the future or their value jumps exponentially and we can sell them for a boatload. There is a gigantic upside in controlled gambles vs fa 1 year plugs.
  15. I dont really know about us talking playoffs at this point. We are still down nelson and a 3era pen arm from last year. We can improve leaps and bounds at 4-5 starter and in the pen. We are currently leaning very heavily on woodruff suter jungemann williams and houser.
  16. Add in Wang and Yungman We have a number of AAAA arms that will fill in nicely in our pen. No need to go nutso in a year we will not be in a contention position. One quality reliever should hold us over until the trade deadline. I really don't agree but the truth of the matter if you simply look at innings pitched. Hader for a full year equals hader last year and swarzak over the whole season. Jeffress was an upgrade in his time vs anyone else we had all year save hughes. Everyone besides those 5... knebel hader swarzak hughes jeffress were 4 era and up. So to be as good as last year in theory we need someone to eat 60 innings as well as hughes did and not see regression from knebel hader jeffress. Now that 60 ip 3era guy was my 8th inning add hope. Sub 3 high leverage was "all we needed." I wanted Cishek. Asking Jeffress to be that guy... or Houser or Williams or Barnes or some 3 mil gamble is asking a bit much. Asking those guys to not suck at 4+ era levels is much more believable. Now if we want to fast track FPeralta I might agree that we have enough. As of now... this is just a bit too flimsy. Just like the 4-5 spots in the rotation. Frankly if we stay quiet or add some gambles I go from the hader stays in the pen to hell might as well try "hader in the rotation" camp. Then our pen is knebel and cross your fingers.
  17. Knebel hader jeffress barnes drake is all we have right now right? Williams Houser Baker in the maybe camp? You have to assume Suter is in the rotation as of today. With Jungemann Guerra or Wilkerson. No faith in Drake unless used as a loogy. They wont give up on barnes. Do we want to add 3 mil gambles or gamble on 2 once highly touted arms who aged (injuries) into a relief role? How fast tracked are we going to make Fperalta and Kodi in the pen? I wanted a guy for the 8th pretty bad but I dont think pen depth is an issue. We need a guy for the 8th so hader doesn't get wedged into a role.
  18. As was this guy at 26. Even if Whit is far superior defensively this dude at 26 was in the minors and scooter was grinding away. 27 he broke in and although the average was higher the obp wasn't much higher than scooter at 26. At 27 scooter turned from replacement level to whit at 28. I don't see the facination with a 330 obp 2b who steals bags. If villar can mid point his last 2 years we already have that. Arcia bats 8th. Many feel he should stay there. Hes similar at 22 to whit at 28. We don't need someone who bats 7th. We need a leadoff hitter. That's not someone I want to bust prospects out on. Ive been pro panik but not at a price like this kids being rumored at. Part of panik is an assumed numbers jump outside of sf. I'd rather wait it out with villar sogard perez then throw 2 high level prospects for a guy who's controlled well beyond his prime. Sure all prospects won't hit but that's why you gather a bunch. We've done nothing to this point in the offseason. That's fine by me. The only thing we need to do is trade out broxton or leave brinson down. Our backs aren't against a wall on anything and if we want to make a jump or have a season of growing pains I'm ok with either but this dude doesnt fix anything. Dubon could be this guy in a year. Villar could be this guy this year without repeating his massive year. The whole 5 years of control is being wildly overrated here.
  19. I feel like the asking price is too high here. Merrifield gets to the majors at 27. Does well but isn't a top of the order batter because his obp sucks. He's very solid. He's 5 year controlled in the spot Huira and Diaz are expected to take over and are expected to outperform merrifield. He's controlled but 5 years put him at 33? God help me for saying this but if this guys what we want why did we toss scooter? If we trade multiple prospects for him I will not be happy. Duffy is good. He's the type I'd be after... but why pay prospects for a guy who costs 60 mil over the next 4. Buy one. He's a value but he doesn't pitch ace innings. He's worth his deal... is it just to get a lefty. I mean if you guys aren't vastly overrating the pieces it would take to get these 2 count me out.
  20. If this dude can play gold glove level defense at SS 300 mil over 10 years isn't a crazy ask. I wouldn't freak out if mke offered it. A bat like that at that position changes an entire batting orders potential. After 6-7 years he can move back to 3rd. Now would he sign here... id doubt it... im giving nothing for 1 year of him so that he can bolt to la or ny.
  21. If the cards get him 2018 might as well be another internal year for mke.
  22. Which is why I don't understand the militant like stance some here are taking towards signing one. You don't get a prize for winning with the cheapest players possible. Agreed, we absolutely need to make value signings in some areas. But unless Stearns has something cooking up his sleeves with our remaining spending power, we should be more involved in this free agent relief market. +100.. he spoke of our "buying power" being a great asset to us and I keep wondering ok its only an asset if you are buying... who is he after? Even if we aren't contending in 2018 and 2019... cishek can be sold off in either year for prospects at this price.
  23. The Cubs have signed two very risky bullpen arms. I'm a little surprised by who they've gone after. There isn't really a guy in that bullpen that is rock-solid by any stretch. That bullpen could be either very good or very bad. I liked the Chatwood signing for them though. Why is cishek risky? Guys had 7 years without 1 over 3.6. 60 ip on average career era at 2.73. Dudes one of the more stable mid level rhps on the market. This is one of the guys i REALLY wanted. At swarzak price that's a good addition. I'd rather believe he'll repeat his success an 8 and 9th time than swarzak not regress his a 2nd time. Id rather the cubs swing big at the best available than eat up a fiscally responsible pen arm like this. Big market buying up all the guys in our market doesn't do us any favors.
  24. Anderson Davies Nelson gives us 2.5 pitchers who can log near 200 ip at sub 4 era. Woodruff lets hope. Burnes Ortiz are maybes. The clock is ticking on davies especially. Need 1-2-3 is young controlable pitching. We can't afford to buy it. Don't care about an ace. To compete our 1-5 has to be sub 4 and innings heavy.
